The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that veteran production designer Ron Cobb has passed away--on his birthday, no less--at the age of 83. The reported cause was Lewy body dementia, which (if memory serves) was what Robin Williams was suffering before his own passing.
Cobb, despite no previous training as a graphic illustrator, worked as an in-between animator on Disney's 1959 film "Sleeping Beauty" (he was laid off just after the film's completion) before working as an production designer or concept illustrator on such Disney-owned films as "Star Wars: A New Hope," "Alien," "Aliens," "Titan A.E." and "The Abyss."
