Re: The Little Mermaid Live!
Wasn't there talk of a Beauty and the Beast live musical sometime back before the plans were suddenly cancelled? I think that's a likely next and same with Aladdin, The Lion King, and Frozen.

I don't remember the news of possibly doing Beauty and the Beast, but I bet those would be the next ones.JeanGreyForever wrote:Wasn't there talk of a Beauty and the Beast live musical sometime back before the plans were suddenly cancelled? They were considering doing a filmed version of the stage show, but then that turned into the live action.

Re: The Little Mermaid Live!
Everyone sounded better on the recording, naturally. I would've bought it regardless for the new lyrics for PUS and the version of "If Only" as a duet that's so much better than the Kerry Butler demo, but I'm glad it's a little better than the show itself. And "Poor Unfortunate Souls" here is at least better than what they did to it in the Broadway show--which gives me a little hope for the re-make. Cravalho sounds alright on the reprise (thankfully she does better with that last, high note than she did on the show) and "If Only," but with "PoYW" she's fine until the song gets to "up where they stay all day in the sun" and that part just doesn't sound good at all. "Her Voice" has a tendency to sound monotonous at the best of times and Phillips didn't help matters.
Still, Shaggy is the worst of the cast. I wish they could've got someone better for Sebastian.

In case you were wondering, it was Glenn Slater who wrote the additional lyrics for the live show.

Oh, I thought it might have been written by Miranda perhaps. I guess that theory of it being something prepared for the live-action version of PUS is kaput. :/

Oh. I would’ve thought that bit was Lin’s creation. It even had that LMM feel to it.Sotiris wrote:In case you were wondering, it was Glenn Slater who wrote the additional lyrics for the live show.

If the universe can only allow one nomination to come about, I hope it's Queen Latifah. She was the best thing about this.

Thanks for letting us know, D82! I was hoping it would get nominated in the program or acting categories, but getting three nominations, even if they are in the technical categories, is not too shabby either.

Re: The Little Mermaid Live!
I'm going to sound like a super nerd, but after watching the live presentation last night, I noticed that during the scene where Ursula grows and becomes huge, the score sounds different from the one used in the movie. Has anyone noticed that? There's a trombone, that's more apparent in the recording for the live version.
Am I going crazy?

"Fathoms Below" is better in this version than in the movie and this comes from someone who loves the orginal film.

Re: The Little Mermaid Live!
No, I noticed at the time the music there was very pronounced for some reason at, although it's been a while since I've seen it. I wasn't sure if it was different outright or they'd simply chose to accent it.Sicoe Vlad wrote:I'm going to sound like a super nerd, but after watching the live presentation last night, I noticed that during the scene where Ursula grows and becomes huge, the score sounds different from the one used in the movie. Crazy to think something like this happened with a stage full of people and audience less than a year ago
