This is depressing news, indeed. He was one of the earliest people involved with Disney animation that was still with us. Just how many of the nine old men are left, anyway?

I just heard about this and have a huge lump in my throat. On the one hand, it's a sad day for the loss of a real legend, but on the other, we have to be euphoric at the chance to have been alive during his lifetime. We were able to see the products of his labor and hear him comment on them. RIP, Frank. You'll be sorely missed.

I mean, just look at some of the highlights from Thomas' incredible career:

The Seven Dwarfs weeping over the fallen princess' body in 1937's "Snow White."
The little wooden boy capering at Stromboli's puppet theater in 1940's "Pinocchio"

The panicked school teacher trying to escape the Headless Horseman in 1949's "The Adventures of Ichabod & Mr. Toad."

Ward Kimball died in 2002, shortly after taping the stuff with David Swift on The Parent Trap DVD. Both passed within a year of taping that, I believe. They were so spirited in those bonus features.

Frank's passing was indeed sad news. Just saw it in a Swedish paper. I think I'll watch some of those great scenes again tonight and raise a glass to a guy who gave the world a lot of magic through his work.

Oh my!
I just read this thread (can't believe I missed it).

Having only recently watched the brillaint 'Frank & Ollie' doco, I can't help but feel someone I know has just died. (Or at least a friend of a friend I met once).

Truly the end of an era, with only Ollie left.

Of course, I don't know the guy, but he SEEMED like a nice enough chap. Good innings though.

I got an e-mail from a friend of Frank and Ollie, who told me how much the messages mean to them and that Frankie and Ollie checked regularly. Now, Frank's widow and son, as well as Ollie are still checking it, and the messages of support really mean a lot.

Maybe I could link to this thread too, since people have had some nice things to say here too.

I just wrote his family an email telling him how grieved I am over his passing. I also sent one to Ollie recently.
