We recognized that we had made a mistake and did the right thing - cut Treeny and Wendell. We were animating On The Open Road, so we left their "very odd" moment and tagged them at the end of the film, sat back and waited to see if anyone noticed.

Kevin Lima: That’s correct! He wanted Steve Martin to play goofy, using his normal voice - Bill Farmer had to record the entire movie, not doing the Goofy voice. I would have left the movie if we couldn’t talk JK off the ledge.

Kevin Lima: A new song would have crushed the joke. The reason you laugh is not because he's dancing, but because he's dancing to that song. Plus, Jeff Katzenberg loved that song.

Kevin Lima: When we came up with the idea of Pauly Shore playing Bobby, the character sprang to life fully formed. Pauly would improvise through his voice sessions and much of it made its way into the film.

Kevin Lima: Yep. In one of the early versions of the film, Chad (voiced by Joey Lawrence) asked Roxanne to the Powerline Party Stacey was throwing. It ultimately felt better to have the pressure Max takes on to be self motivated.

Q: I was definitely satisfied. As I said, I loved the sequel. But not as much as A Goofy Movie. The one thing missing from it was Roxanne. I wanted to see the Max and Roxanne relationship continued in it.

That's true. I think that's why the similarly-intended DuckTales the Movie pales in comparison and is pretty much forgotten outside the show. A Goofy Movie was conceptualized differently. It never felt like an extension of the TV show.

I agree. They are great. Even 102 Dalmatians is decent (although my least favorite of the four). I wish he had directed more movies too. I don't see him going back to animation (unless he joins Netflix), but there are lot of opportunities in the live-action space nowadays. Having made so many popular movies for Disney, you'd think they would have given him another chance to direct by now. Especially with all the increased number projects they're developing because of Disney+.

You're right. I didn't even remember it was based on the show when I wrote my comment. I've watched A Goofy Movie several times throughout the years, while I haven't seen the show since it first aired in my country. That's why I sometimes forget they're connected.

Yes, it's decent for a sequel and it has Glenn Close, who is always great. I remember Kevin Lima was announced as director of a new project some years ago, but I guess it never got made.

Same! Enchanted and Tarzan are two of my favorite films and I really like 102 Dalmatians a lot as well. The first one is just a remake without much of the charm of the animated film so 102 really was allowed to go beyond the source material and create a fun new story. I don't get why it gets so much hate because I always liked it a lot.

@Sotiris: I'm going through those tweets you posted now. I definitely prefer Roxanne's final design over what they started with. She looks a little too cutesy in that concept art. I like the way the film Roxanne is somewhere in the zone between a prep and a nerd; she's never as stuck-up as a stock prep type (like the character they made for Chad after they decided he wouldn't be pursuing Roxanne), and intelligent without being too absurd or bookish (or unattractive) like a nerd type.

The Prince connection especially makes sense of why the soundtrack was so good. "After Today" and "On the Road" were my favorite songs, but "I2I" is great, too. As far as the Bobby Brown tweet, I always thought MJ and Prince, ofc. Those were obvious. I don't know much about BB other than he was Whitney's husband and he's the original of Britney's cover of "My Prerogative."

Jack Feldman (NEWSIES) and Tom Snow (FOOTLOOSE) wrote at least three different opening songs in order to get to “After Today.” I was pretty demanding that the opening not only melodically pop, but the lyrics deliver a lot of plot information.

"After Today" and "On the Road" were my favorite songs, but "Stand Out" and "I2I" are great, too. AT is another one of those songs that seems to imitate "Belle" in some sense, while firmly differentiating itself.

The Born to Be Bad song for a Goofy nightmare would've been cute; kind of the reverse of Max's dream at the beginning. I wonder if the song's title was really called "Bad Bad Boy" like the tape said? That title sounds even funnier.

As you can see on this map, there are many generations of Goofs. In an early version of the storyreels, Max and Goofy stopped at a Goof reunion.

I was wondering that when I read the first tweet about how the couple reappears because I had just realized how much the body type is similar to the woman who sings at the end. Wow, now I'll think of that every time I watch now, would've never known otherwise.

Final fun fact, Pat Carroll (who also voices Ursula in The Little Mermaid) voiced the big woman with the small husband seen in “on the open road” and singing in the pier line concert at the end.

Anyway, I actually really like the DuckTales movie. Not as much as AGM or even the DuckTales show, but I liked it a great deal when I was young. My favorite part was Ms. Beakley discovering the animals around the house.
