Thanks about the curtains D82.

All the DMC exclusive covers are so beautiful!

The UK steelbook is also pretty nice!

The DMC Exclusive Collector's Edition is nice overall, although, like I said before, I'm not crazy about Duchess' face and the two male kittens look like they must be really sick. Not to mention the brown one should be black.

The fat one on the right should be orange, the one on the left should be black not brown. Or at least grey. The Special Edition cover also made him brown.

Oh I didn't notice. Both of them brown for some reason, but it could also be because of the camera (unlikely though).

Aristocats French Blu-ray cover art contest. When Aristocats was released on Blu-ray in France, people could vote on three different designs

Thanks for posting, JeanGreyForever! I had never seen most of these covers before. My favorite is the one for Bambi, but all of them are quite beautiful. Even the Dumbo cover, though I still don't like the disproportionate ears.

I believe these UK steelbooks for Pinocchio and Bambi haven't been posted either:

Nor these Collector's Editions from Spain:

 Yes, both kittens look horrible on that cover. And, you're right, Berlioz looks too brown there.

Thanks for posting them, DisneyBluLife! The first link doesn't work for me though, I can only see the same cover than in the second link, but blurry.

I love the Pinocchio and Bambi UK steelbooks! I especially's love Pinocchio's. Wish we go that instead of the Platinum cover, or the Best Buy steelbook.

Thanks for posting! The first one seems like a very preliminary design since there isn't even clipart but I think I would like that one best. The third one is odd because it's super cluttered and doesn't even feature Duchess or Thomas. I don't think anyone else cares for Scat Cat and his band that much to see them take over the film's cover. The final French version isn't much of an improvement because the overall layout is just bizarrely spaced.

You're welcome! The DMC exclusives were never really promoted and they aren't very common. Thank you for posting those Collector's Editions from Spain! I had never seen those before and I really like those designs. I wish Disney would make more collectible packages like these which actually look like storybooks.

I was struggling with the first link too although I eventually got it to work. Try this link instead though. I've also posted the pics below.

I agree with everything you said. My favorite is also the first one, though it looks as if they had forgotten to color O'Malley and Duchess. I can see why they selected the second one though; it's the most traditional of the three.

Well thank God for some of those European covers, cause darn, the Aristocats doesn't really have very original covers to choose from in their US release history. On the plus side, none of them are terrible.

I will also preface my ranking by saying that The Aristocats starts a long stretch of Disney films I don't particularly care for. Pretty much every film between Jungle Book and Little Mermaid ranges from mediocre to bad, IN MY OPINION. Looking at my collection, I have actually never owned a home video release of any of the movies made during that stretch. Ouch.

I will still chime in, but I may not spot characters being off-model as often... cause I don't know the movies as well as others (but yes, I have seen them all, and more than once). So here we go:

1) Gold collection: I think the characters look good, the composition works... and the cityscape is so far away that the limited color palette and lack of detail works.

2) Masterpiece VHS: Giving extra points to this one cause it's so different from all the others. Nice layout. The poses for the kittens are ADORABLE! Duchess' eyes looks a little strange... and Edgar looks DREADFUL. He looks like he was added at the last minute (side note: Im baffled I remember the characters' names).

3) UK steelbook: this one is a bit of a clutter, but the characters all look well drawn, and I like the abstract background. It works on this one. The relational scale is good, save for that grey cat playing the trumpet... Im going to pretend he jumped and he is in mid-air. Weird note: Duchess and O'Malley aren't looking at each other.

4) Spanish VHS: This one is pretty good. Kittens look really good, Duchess looks pretty decent, O'Malley looks a little off model. The background is well rendered... except for that PATHETIC EIFFEL TOWER. Awful. And why the weird purple gradient for the sky?!??! And a YELLOW moon???

5) DMC Exclusive Collector: ok, so this is one of those clever concepts, but poorly executed. I like the piano idea, I like the spilled paint and paw prints... layout looks nice for the characters. But yes, like others have mentioned before me, the kittens are poorly drawn and colored (jaundiced! Their kidneys are failing!).

6) Blu ray: It's a bit of a clutter, bur it's fairly well organized. I like the Jazz cats at the bottom. This one is just ok.

7) Special Edition dvd: characters look ok, though both adult cats are a little off. The moon and Paris in the background works. The kittens with the spotlight are nice (thought they should have airbrushed the bottom of O'Malley more, so it didn't reach the kittens). Again.... just ok.

8 ) DMC Exclusive blu ray: a lot of this feels recycled... but my main issues are layout and color. Layout: everything is a little off, but not off enough to be intentionally so. Adult cats are ALMOST centered... the curtains are weirdly OFF center, but not enough to be off-to-the-side. I get it, they want to show the Eiffel tower... but the whole thing creates a weird tension. And then there is the cutoff point at the bottom. There is a strange tension created where the lines of the piano keys are almost touching the bottom of the image. It's hard to explain... but it's off.
Color: EXCESSIVE use of blue... which seems to have zero effect on the super warm color palette used for the cats and piano.

9) Classic VHS UK: Terrible colors. Overuse of purple-gradient. Duchess looks insane. It doesn't look professionally made. Edgar is was off, and whatever he has on that tray should be falling off....

OVERALL QUESTION: why isn't the old lady in any of the covers?!?!?! (aside from the fact that she is hard to draw)

I like that the first cover at least attempted to use one of the best images from the film, which is Duchess and O'Malley looking up at the moon from the rooftops with their tails intertwined. <3

I also wish there was a cover that mimicked one of the last shots of the film with all the cats on the couch (the same image used for the Legacy Collection album's cover). I understand that they want to show the Eiffel Tower one way or another to emphasize the film's Frenchness. And, of course, involve the piano in some way, too. Still, I wish we had one cover similar to the couch shot.

I think the problem is that none of those characters are very memorable, popular, or marketable. That's why they focus on the main cats and the band tends to be included so often because the most popular song of the film features them heavily.

I'm sure you are 100% right, JeanGrey. But c'mon... "random musician cat" isn't any better than "old lady with kitten".

Let's face it, most of this movie isn't memorable. A blend of 101 Dalmatians and Lady and the Tramp.... sigh.

Most of what people remember from this film is the main song "Everybody Wants To Be a Cat." I know that certainly was the case for me when I hadn't seen it in over a decade. The cats don't have to be memorable but as long as they have instruments, people will recognize them. Kinda like how The Jungle Book covers tend to feature King Louie's monkeys who are less memorable than actual full-fledged characters but they hail from one of the film's most popular songs so they tend to get precedence.

I like the Most Wanted Edition the best. Something about the way the colors and airbrushing look, with that composition and the lovely rays of light. My next favorite is the Gold Collection. I think those look great. The rest look mediocre.

I didn't realize that the VHS covers were all the same. I'm a fan of those but I also like the Gold Edition DVD cover a lot.

This is the French steelbook cover.

I think this is definitely the era when there are only going to be about a handful of covers to choose from. Even The Aristocats had some variety because it's a popular title internationally.

The Gold Collection cover is the only one I like. Very sad that this film hasn't got more / better covers. I thought Robin Hood had a cult fanbase, too? If it did, wouldn't it have sold well-enough to get re-issued more often?
