I think this will be a soundtrack addition. It's supposed to be limited (although we all know limited releases are only limited to how many they expect to sell anyway).
I can't see the first two discs being reauthored DVDs for a limited release, or an additional DVD being created for the third disc. They're much more likely to simply include something they already have in a nice package... such as a soundtrack CD.

Maybe they could make some new Games & Activities too!
Yes! And maybe with the new 3-Disc Set, we'll get EasyFind Menus! Now if that's not a reason to upgrade, I don't know what is!

That my be a possibility, but even with a fullscreen-only version, that didn't stop "Pirates" from being one of the best-seelling releases of all time.
This double-dip is definitely premature. Why didn't they wait to release this to drum up excitement for part II? It seems like a poor decision, and furthermore, I am worried that bad sales of this will lead some of the dizbiz guys to think that there is less interest in more films like this.
My brother just got this dvd for x-mas last year, and they think they'll sell it to us again? This must just be for the hard-core collecters.

Pirates of the Caribbean was the 3rd-highest selling DVD of 2003. If anything, this re-release would be aimed at getting those who don't already have it to buy it for the holiday season. Just a re-release of Pirates will get it into the weekly sales circulars and on New Releases shelves, and "3 discs" sounds even more alluring to customers than 2 discs, even if nothing substantial has been added, as the case may be.
Disney *certainly* knows that there is enormous interest in films like Pirates.
I have it on good authority that this new edition will contain a director's cut including a special restored scene where Jack Sparrow has a conversation with Jabba the Hutt.
I think it will be a Pirates of the Carribean - Extended Edition - with 30 min of extra footage and of course the missing trailers! hehe! You can never dream too much!
I won't be getting it, I'm quite happy with the first release. Maybe it's like the big box set they did for spiderman a couple years after it came out, that would make a little more sense.
This will be a 3-disc version, including The Collector's Edition and a new "Lost Disc" (including 8 never before seen bonus features). Cover art can be found here.
Well that's just cheap. Hopefully those 8 features (notice how they don't say featurettes...) are useless, otherwise I'll be ticked. I don't see what they could possibly put on that disc aside from trailers, tv spots, and games, which is possible considering they don't use the word "featurette" but rather "feature".
The cover art has me confused... is this a brand new unit housing 3 individual discs, or is it the exact same 2-disc set as previously released with the bonus disc being sold seperately yet being "packaged" together with a cardboard band around both cases (sort of like the Gremlins 2-disc offer)? Also, is it just me or does "The Lost Disc" appear to be housed in some sort of a tin container, like Anchor Bay uses for some of their exclusive limited releases?
By the looks of it, it seems to be the original amaray DVD shrinkwrapped in a cardboard band with the third disc which seems to be housed in some sort of crappy plastic tray.
