Please try visiting that woman. I'm sure she would be glad to put one of your DVDs or one of her own DVDs into her blu-ray player to show you.

Re: How can DVDs work in Blu-Ray players?
You've got to be kidding, DVDs work in Blu-Ray players I live in the US my DVDs work fine in my Blu-Ray player why can't you grasp that concept.Big Disney Fan wrote:The thing is, I just wanted verification. That's what my father used to say, "Trust, but verify."Disney Guru wrote:DVDs work on Blu-Ray players you need to accept that fact. If you can you should definitely upgrade to a Blu-Ray player you'll love it
And no offense, but that video by Escapay apparently is not from around here; I think it's from England or Australia, both of which have different regional coding on them, not even related to each other.

Re: How can DVDs work in Blu-Ray players?
The first Blu-ray players were made with two diodes units (laser and lens), one for Blu-ray, one for CD and DVD. Sony, I believe, figured out how to use a single Diode unit capable of emitting three different wavelengths. That's the basic explanation. Edit (found article): http://www.sony.net/SonyInfo/News/Press ... 5/04-026E/
For more information, read page 11 of this document:
http://blu-raydisc.com/Assets/Downloada ... _clean.pdf
Companies like Sony wanted new players to be backwards compatible, so as not to discourage people with DVD collections.
Also, if you want confirmation, with proof, then check the product box when buying a player or ask to see the manual. You can also check manufactures websites for product specifications.

Re: How can DVDs work in Blu-Ray players?
Oh, for goodness sake. If a Region 2 DVD can play in a Region B Blu-ray player, then by that very logic, a Region 1 DVD will play in a Region A Blu-ray player.Big Disney Fan wrote:And no offense, but that video by Escapay apparently is not from around here; I think it's from England or Australia, both of which have different regional coding on them, not even related to each other.
This is impossible.
At this point, my advice is to never buy a Blu-ray player. Ignorance is bliss.

Place Betamax player on top of the Blu-ray player, plug in and turn on the Betamax player, insert tape and press play (on the Betamax player).Barbossa wrote:How do you play a Betamax on a Blu-Ray player?
I couldn't resist this joke, I'm not sure if it's actually funny or not, but it's meant in a light hearted way.

Also someone please tell me how to play a Laserdisc on a Blu-Ray player. I mean they are both discs so they should work, but the laserdisc is so much bigger how do I put it in there?

Re: How can DVDs work in Blu-Ray players?
How can we be sure it was answered? Are there any videos out there (maybe YouTube) that shows someone demonstrating a DVD in a Blu-Ray player for Big Disney Fan? I mean, I could take it on faith, but I'd like proof that it worked for him.

I had to housesit for my sister when she went on her tenth anniversary trip. She had a Blu-Ray player and she showed me how it worked and that it would work with DVDs, which it did. Now we have a Blu-Ray player of our own, even though we never really used it.

But how can I take your word for it, if I can't see it for myself? I mean, two years ago, everyone here said that putting a DVD in a Blu-ray player would work, but you wouldn't believe anyone until you saw it for yourself, despite me providing a video of the actual technology at work - other region or not, it was the same damn technology. I think it's only fair that we not believe you until we see for ourselves a video of you watching a DVD played in a Blu-ray player. The logic of asking for verifiable proof should go both ways, after all.Big Disney Fan wrote:I had to housesit for my sister when she went on her tenth anniversary trip. I did see it for myself now, and to be fair, the video you put up was from a different region (regional coding is different and all), as you yourself admitted. As I said before, I wanted to trust, but also to verify, as my father told me. Well, now, it's all done. Thank you.Escapay wrote:But how can I take your word for it, if I can't see it for myself? But WE haven't seen it. We don't have that verification that you understand it beyond you telling us. And given that you would not accept a truth from us as true until you verified it yourself, it's only fair that you do the same for everyone who's participated in this thread.BDF wrote:I did see it for myself now
You're still missing my point. The technology is the same. The technology to make a Region 1 DVD play in a Region A Blu-Ray player is the SAME as a Region 2 DVD playing in a Region B Blu-Ray player. So a video of one would be applicable to another. By posting the video, I was showing you the very technology you were asking for (if a DVD could play in a Blu-Ray player). Introducing the whole issue of region coding was your doing, because you could not grasp that a technology applicable for ALL regions would work for ALL regions provided each region was the same.BDF wrote:and to be fair, the video you put up was from a different region (regional coding is different and all), as you yourself admitted.
But you're still missing my point. If you needed verification and proof, and that you couldn't take our word (or video) on it, then we need the same. You can't apply one set of logic one way and not expect it to be given back. Would it be fair to anyone here that you want us to take your word for it after you refused to take ours, eschewing all our serious (and sarcastic) assurances over actually seeing it for yourself? If this thread must rely on the logic you've presented, then we can't fully trust that you know how a DVD plays in a Blu-Ray player unless we can verify it. Thus, on a matter of principle as demonstrated in this thread, I refuse to accept that you know how a DVD works in a Blu-Ray player unless you provide the verifiable proof that is asked.BDF wrote:As I said before, I wanted to trust, but also to verify, as my father told me. Big Disney Fan, only listen to what Escapay said about the technology of a DVD being able to be played in a Blu-ray player working for all regions. The rest of what he's saying is sarcastic which I'm not sure why he's doing when you have autism. He's basically saying you shouldn't have needed a video or a real life demonstration as proof, but you couldn't help wanting to see that proof.

Re: How can DVDs work in Blu-Ray players?
Escapay can speak for himself and does not need someone else to explain what is genuine and what is sarcastic in his posts.
The logic presented in this thread is baffling. Requiring proof when asking for confirmation, but refusing to give the same proof when asked for that confirmation? It has nothing to do with the autism spectrum. I'm merely presenting his logic from a different perspective. It's hypocritical for him to ask one thing of others, but does not follow it himself.
