Re: Pixar's Cars 3
I just came of the movie theater. This was really, really, really good. Definitely on par with the first Cars. I laughed, I cried. So much heart is in this movie. Lightning + Cruz = a dream team. They had so much chemistry. Ahhh- I can't even describe how good the movie is! I noticed that the score is good, too- the songs, eh, but the score was good.
It had action-packed races like the first movie, and it had the heart that the first movie had.
The messages are really good. I just feel really good, really happy, really satisfied.
Go see it!!!

Re: Pixar's Cars 3
I agree. I saw it this morning and loved it!
A big improvement over Cars 2 and I didn't dislike Cars 2. The first Cars is still my favorite of the 3 Cars films but then again Cars is my 3rd favorite of the 18 Pixar films (behind only Nemo and Dory) so that's pretty big shoes to fill.
Still, from one viewing, I'd rank it, for my taste, in the top half of the Pixar films - which considering the quality of their films, is pretty solid.
Like the first Cars film, there is so much more going on here than just cute anthropomorphic cars. So much heart and underlying themes. The first film touched poignantly on the fate of once thriving roadside towns eclipsed by the interstate passing them by; while simultaneously telling the story of a brash young race car maturing while finding heart and learning to care for others. The ending of Cars 1, for my taste, is just about perfect.
In this film, Lightning has become the older "relic" from the past trying to stay on top in an increasingly competitive racing circuit where high-tech, cocky young newcomers are gunning to push him into "irrelevance".
How the film deals with this theme is a large source of its poignancy. Every scene/reference to Doc Hudson is extremely well done, as is the character and storyline of Cruz Ramirez.
There is a lot of humor as well. Viewers who didn't like Mater's expanded role in the 2nd film will be happy that he is more of a supporting player here.
After traveling the world in the 2nd film, it was nice to spend more time in Radiator Springs in this one, although I thought Sally could have had a more prominent role, and a lot of the Radiator Springs gang/locations didn't have as much screen time as I thought they would.
Still, as blackcauldron85 said, this film made me laugh and cry, touched me, and made me want to see it again, which, like most Disney and Pixar animated films, I'm sure I will many times in the future.

Re: Pixar's Cars 3
I was just grateful that Sally had as "big" a part as she had here, after Cars 2. But, yeah, it would have been nice to spend more time with Flo, Ramone, Lizzie, Sherriff, etc. (But yay Guido & Luigi!!!! <3) But I definitely got sentimental being back in Radiator Springs.David S. wrote:After traveling the world in the 2nd film, it was nice to spend more time in Radiator Springs in this one, although I thought Sally could have had a more prominent role, and a lot of the Radiator Springs gang/locations didn't have as much screen time as I thought they would.

I honestly felt like they pretended that Cars 2 never even happened at all. Honestly, this is the TRUE Cars sequel.

I'm glad people here are liking the film. I'm so jealous right now, it doesn't open in my country until July 14. But that's actually a short wait compared to some years ago, when we sometimes got the movie 6 months after the US release.

Re: Pixar's Cars 3
I saw it last night. So glad to see it back in radiator springs, it's like Cars 2 never happened. Just like Pirates 5 should have been Pirates 4. I liked it for the most part--in the middle I got restless a little. The ending was so good that I think when I see this again that the middle will 'mean more' for me. The parts with Doc were really well done and I loved the new characters. If you hated Cars 2, you should have higher expectations for this one. Even brought a tear to my eye like most Pixar movies do. Recommended.

Re: Pixar's Cars 3
So, I got around to seeing this movie...
...it was just okay.
Slightly better than Cars 2, in that I managed to stay awake for this one. One thing I noticed with both this and Illumination's Despeicable Me 3 is that both movies have stepped back on the "breakout" characters, as if there's an acknowledgment of how easy it is to over-rely on them to keep a franchise going. Here, Tow Mater has a somewhat minor role, as the focus shifts back to Lightning McQueen and his budding relationship with his trainer/protege.
For the Cars movies thus far, I have not revisited the first two since they first came out. Only time will tell if I will revisit this one.

"OH COME ON, REALLY?!?!"
Re: Pixar's Cars 3
A classic example of 2 franchises being pushed to the limit. One being rejected & the other thriving. But Pixar will still win the Oscar for Best Animated Feature for Coco later this year, so nice consolation prize
