Ugh, I absolutely LOATHE Bryce Dallas Howard. A hideous actress inside and out.
But I am looking forward to see how dreadful this film will be, so it looks like they're off to a good start!

http://www.ew.com/article/2015/08/05/oo ... e-southpawHer (Oona Laurence) next big project likely won’t demand Southpaw’s kind of hardcore emotional soul-searching. She spent four months earlier this year in New Zealand filming a remake of Disney’s Pete’s Dragon. “It’s much different than the first one,” she says. “It’s about a boy named Pete who lives in the woods with a dragon. I find him there and basically bring him back to civilization. Things happen. It’s pretty crazy in the end, but it’s really adorable and funny and beautiful.”

Jeez... a little too harsh, are we?Lady Cluck wrote:Ugh, I absolutely LOATHE Bryce Dallas Howard. A hideous actress inside and out.
She's not drop dead gorgeous, but she's not particularly hideous either. She's a little stiff and reserved at times, but she's not the worst case either.

Well I said that before Jurassic World became one of the most successful films of all time for some reason, despite being a pile of hot steaming garbage from start to finish. So I guess she has some star power in her favor now, and experience working with giant reptilian beasts.

The trailer is horrendous
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OlUkOid3TYc
Looks like any old generic action movie and devoid of any charm. Hopefully the movie is better than it looks but my expectations are VERY low, even lower than before.

I got a Spielbergian vibe from it, which is a compliment in my book. Honestly, I have no nostalgia for the original film, so I like that they are taking in a new direction and away from the corny musical of the '77 version. The concept of a boy and his invisible dragon friend holds a lot of potential.

I don't think he'll be feral but a kid who had a home and then was left in a forest for 6 years out of his pret-teen life.
This movie looks charmless like Lady Cluck said. This film looks magicless. The 1977 film wasn't cheesy, it was wonderful. Sure, some of it was cringe-worthy, but in the end it was something beloved.

Neither do I, but that's why I have no interest in a re-make of it.estefan wrote:Honestly, I have no nostalgia for the original film, so I like that they are taking in a new direction and away from the corny musical of the '77 version.

I haven't seen the original in a while, but it never really won me over. Not sure if I want to give this remake a try either to be honest.

Re: Disney to Remake Pete's Dragon
The trailer didn't win me over, but I probably will see it as I usually end up seeing these kinds of films anyway.
I WILL defend it's existence however. I never thought Disney would actually make it, because it's not one of their better-known films and, if I recall correctly, this is the first remake. That would make this a rather timely one as opposed to stories like Cinderella and A Christmas Carol and Tarzan(which ironically has had a drought of adaptations since the Disney version) and 30-40 years is about normal between retellings.

Didn't like the trailer and it's non-musical. Not going to watch it as I really liked the original and I like the music and songs to it.

Looks charmless and soulless. I predict a huge flop a la the live action version of The Sorcerer's Apprentice.
