Disney won't move Zootopia to January with Star Wars VII only a month old in theaters, hence why KFP3 fled to mid March. It's at a point now that an original WDAS feature can hold it's own against a DreamWorks franchise sequel, at least domestically. Look at Big Hero 6: domestically in only 1 month has outgrossed HttyD2 which has been out since June & has clearly embarrassed The Penguins of Madagascar. This a clear indication that Disney Animation is back & fears nothing.disneyprincess11 wrote:Yeeeeaaaaaah, Dreamworks clearly is doing that on purpose. But, that is actually a smart move! The only way this would succeed is if Disney moved Zootopia to January, which would be a great idea!

Re: Byron Howard's Zootopia
On Apple TV there is now a channel called fusion (jointly owned by ABC and Univision).
They have a sizzle reel called "this is fusion" where they show snippets of upcoming programs. Among the programs there is one about the making of Zootopia and John Lasseter can be seen.
No idea when that is going to air.

Big Hero 6 is hurting Penguins of Madagascar and Zootopia will hurt Kung Fu Panda 3.
Dreamworks is playing a dangerous game. If they try to take on Disney right now, they will lose. Their Shrek days are over. They're losing money on movies like crazy.

I'm not sure about the latter. I think it has more to do with how the movie will look than the brand name(s) still, and so far Zootopia sounds middle-of-the-road while KFP already has one successful sequel. If it were up against Moana, I would agree.PatrickvD wrote:Big Hero 6 is hurting Penguins of Madagascar and Zootopia will hurt Kung Fu Panda 3.

Re: Byron Howard's Zootopia
One thing about this Revival era is that WDAS knows how to market it's films. It they can come up with a slick marketing campaign people will show up. Also with ALL the attention on Moana, Zootopia can try to go for that surprise element. KFP3 is just the same old issue with DWA, them trying to make money with another sequel, & domestic audiences are clearly tired of that formula.Disney's Divinity wrote:I'm not sure about the latter. BTW: It's so weird how Zootopia comes out right before Moana, but yet we're getting so much more info about Moana, which was just officially announced btw, than Zootopia.

Re: Byron Howard's Zootopia
Wouldn't it be odd if this turns out to be the bigger hit than Moana? Even if Moana is seemingly the more prestigious project.
Boy, I wish this would released in late 2015 instead, as I've grown accustomed to looking forward to the next Disney film in November/December.

Re: Byron Howard's Zootopia
For Zootopia, this meant director Byron Howard and his crew going on safari in Africa, consulting animal experts and binge–watching David Attenborough documentaries. The film is set in a city built by animals, and while Howard was partly inspired by his love of Disney's 1973 adaptation of Robin Hood, with foxes, bears and badgers, Lasseter didn't want the film to repeat what he described as the studio's "animals wearing human clothes in a human world" aesthetic.
Following his research, Howard felt the story pulling in a completely different direction: one "steeped in the nature of how mammals live on earth," says Lasseter, that's "fascinating and completely fresh".

How is this film not that aesthetic? There aren't any humans in this animal civilization, are there?Lasseter didn't want the film to repeat what he described as the studio's "animals wearing human clothes in a human world" aesthetic.

An employee at Disney may had leaked the official logo of the movie on Instagram. I won't post the picture to be safe

What? So is this going to be in the same vain as Robin Hood (anthropomorphic animals) or what?disneyprincess11 wrote:For Zootopia, this meant director Byron Howard and his crew going on safari in Africa, consulting animal experts and binge–watching David Attenborough documentaries. Are you referring to this one? It looks too plain for it to be the final one.disneyprincess11 wrote:An employee at Disney may had leaked the official logo of the movie on Instagram.

Re: Byron Howard's Zootopia

With all the hate BH6 is getting with it's recent Oscar win, I can only imagine what's in store for Zootopia in a year. Any way here is a new image of the silhouettes of Nick Wilde, Judy Hopps & an unannounced character.

Sotrisis-It could be an idea of what the last logo will look like.
