The Incredible Journey on retail DVD!!!

Post by Mickeyfan1990 »

So look what I found tonight!:

http://www.amazon.com/Incredible-Journe ... 00MHT49FE/

Apparently this is also available now as Wal-Mart exclusive with a full retail release in January.

I checked the listing and the cover via an eBay auction, and the it clarifies the film is in widescreen!!! Now we can debate on what is the OAR, but if it's widescreen, then it must be a remastered transfer!

UPDATE: False alarm. The disc IS the same as the Movie Club Exclusive which is also in widescreen. Sorry about that. On the bright side, there's a retail release now.

Great news - thanks for posting. I hope this means more Walt live-action releases on DVD - and hopefully Blu-ray!

Loved this film as a kid. Never saw it on the big screen but many times on the Disney TV show.

I didn't know it had taken so long to come to DVD? I watched this pretty often as a child, so I'm glad.

To me this, along with Maleficent, are the only two films with Linda Woolverton's involvement that I've actually liked. Plus it's about time that they restored the widescreen version of this film, like Frozen and Sleeping Beauty it deserves to be in widescreen only.

MM: This thread is referring to Walt Disney's original 1963 production of "The Incredible Journey" coming to retail DVD -- not the 1993 remake "Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey." In the original, the animals do not speak. Rex Allen narrates. No Linda Woolverton involved.

Whoops! My bad.

Still nice to know that Disney hasn't entirely forgotten about this one.

I only recently found out about this a week or so ago. As happy as I am about the Disney Afternoon releases, it's a little disheartening to find this classic's retail release be pushed to the side for them.

I saw it on the shelf at Walmart, along with a few other Disney Walmart exclusives.

And I say this with a little bit of knowing from whispers, but should things stay on course, we've only just begun. Personally, I'd like to see Disney TV Animation and unreleased classic Walt-era titles get equal booking when it comes to DVD releases. However, if I'm forced to choose, I'm going to have to go with the Disney Afternoon as that was from my generation.

Hopefully there is still enough spotlight for both. Ultimately, it comes down to what is selling, and without knowing exact numbers, my understanding is that the DA DVD's are selling very well. Only Zorro sold better from the DMC as far as I'm aware. It would seem that Disney is interested in testing the retail waters for DA titles. I's love it if the next TV animated title went straight to retail! From the look of things, that could happen, we'll see how it goes.
