Re: Into the Woods (Disney-film)
Ah! The trailer is magical and epic! I love it! This is the first time I'm saying this for any movie, but I love the dark tone. It fits the story and its theme. I, too, love that the prince's castle is a medieval fortress, and therefore not as glamorous as one from a Renaissance, Baroque, or classical/Rococo time period.
Btw, I watched Into the Woods for the first time two weeks ago (the OBC), and I was sadly unimpressed. The musical had been hyped up to me for so long that I expected the best thing ever, and it was just okay. However, this trailer does make me excited for the film!

I think it, like most Sondheim musicals, is one that improves upon seeing it multiple times. The songs aren't really instantly catchy, more clever and meaningful, so you have to take them in over time to get their full effectiveness.tsom wrote:Btw, I watched Into the Woods for the first time two weeks ago (the OBC), and I was sadly unimpressed. Re: Into the Woods (Disney-film)
I haven't seen the show, but after listening to the OBC recording, I felt the same way, tsom, but I didn't want to post that. It's grown on me the past few weeks though. I expected that, tbh, because Sweeney Todd was the same way for me (although I like that better than ITW, overall). My favorite songs are "Last Midnight" and "No One Is Alone." I'm so glad Meryl Streep is playing the Witch, I believe she's my favorite character by far.

Listening to most often lately:
Taylor Swift ~ ~ "The Fate of Ophelia"
Taylor Swift ~ "Eldest Daughter"
Taylor Swift ~ "CANCELLED!"
Re: Into the Woods (Disney-film)
Thank goodness I'm not the only one that felt that way. I was just expecting a masterpiece because that's how everyone had always described Into the Woods, but I just felt underwhelmed. The only song I remembered after I finished was "Agony." However, like lord-of-sith stated, maybe I need to see it/listen to it some more.

I'll have to wait until February to see this film released in my country. Good for me...

Re: Into the Woods (Disney-film)
The trailer has made Into The Woods become cinematic and beautiful, which is sort of what I wished the show itself was. I think this movie might redeem Rob Marshall as a film director after that HUGE mess of a movie called Nine (which, over time, has become a guilty pleasure movie).

Re: Into the Woods (Disney-film)
The pictures are fantastic, amazing, phenomenal. The trailer is amazingly phenomenal. Everything looks really amazing and beautiful! Cinderella's servant costume, her well-acted look she gives to her stepfamily, her stepfamily's costumes, all so amazing. Cinderella transformation, beautiful, so unique and well done, and a beautiful costume I think I like better than (gasp!) Disney's live-action Cinderella one! Red Riding Hood's costume fantastic and beautiful. Her entering the woods with like an archway of bent trees is so amazingly beautiful. Some of the Baker's Wife costume's great. Meryl Streep's costume great and her line delivery amazing. Rapunzel's costume beautiful. The whole tone and music and epiceness of the trailer awesome and pumping me with excitement. I cannot wait.
Didn't look like Cinderella was at a hazel tree, like it's supposed to be, but a willow tree. Oh well, still looks so beautiful.

Re: Into the Woods (Disney-film)
To bad that Into The Woods will be released in Norway (and several other countries) first in February next year.
To me a musical and a "Disney fairytale movie" like this screams "Christmas"/"Holiday" movie, I think it would have done better business at the cinema if it were released in December. Also, it will premiere only a month before Disney's Cinderella, and I think some people will be fed up with 2 Disney fairytales in a month and wont go to see them both at the cinema...
It's strange how movies released by Disney during Spring and Summer (Alice, Oz, Maleficent etc) get's a Norwegian premiere at the same time as it premieres in the US, but movies that premieres in America in November and December (Tangled, Muppets, Wreck-It-Ralph and almost Frozen as well - before Disney thankfully understood that this was the perfect Christmas/Holiday movie in Norway) usually comes to cinema in Norway in February.

Re: Into the Woods (Disney-film)
At least you have a date
Disney Brazil is only announcing it as "soon". This happened with The Odd Life of Timothy Green (so pushed that got only a home video release) and Saving Mr. Banks (released three months after the US).
However, I don't think Into the Woods will be released in December or January at all, since Big Hero 6 will be released in 25/12.
Also, the Brazilian title of Into the Woods is Caminhos da Floresta, which can be translated into "Forest Ways". Oh, bother.

Re: Into the Woods (Disney-film)
I didn't do any research on this movie or the story, and I happened to come across this thread. I saw the teaser on YouTube, and I downloaded some stills from MovieStillsDB.com. I think the cast is amazing, and I'm so excited to see it.

Re: Into the Woods (Disney-film)
Well, this was unexpected: the new song was apparently cut from the film.
Source. In an interview published in Entertainment Weekly's 2014 Fall Movie Preview, INTO THE WOODS director Rob Marshall reveals that a previously reported new Sondheim-penned song for Meryl Streep's character 'The Witch' did not make the film's final cut.
"We've been incredibly faithful to the original," says the director before confirming that the the highly anticipated big screen adaptation of the stage musical will not add any new original songs.
Last November, Streep sat down with "Extra's" Jerry Penacoli and revealed the news that Sondheim had written an all-new song for her character. (Read the original story here!) "I have a new song that Sondheim wrote for me, so it's all very, very," said the actress, who went on to joke, "He gave me the manuscript of it and he wrote, 'don't f**k it up!'"
While the song has been cut from the film itself, there is no word yet if the new tune will still appear played over the film credits, which would indeed make it eligible for a Best New Song Oscar.
Despite the disappointing news, Marshall promises that Streep's singing chops will certainly NOT disappoint movie New Sondheim INTO THE WOODS Song Cut from Final Version; Marshall Calls Streep's Voice 'Off the Charts'goers. "I don't think people will be remotely ready to hear her sing this material," he gushed over the Oscar winner's voice. "The power from her is off the charts."
He also guarantees die-hard 'Woods' fans that their favorite moments from the classic musical will be included in the new version. "It's all there," he promises.

Re: Into the Woods (Disney-film)
I remember when Rob Marshall said that he had to cut "Class" from Chicago because it slowed down the film and the cut was "painful" but it was needed because the song was a book song and not a "concept song" like the others did.

In the script, 'Lament' was followed by the new song. Perhaps it was simply too much...

In the leaked script, several of my favorite songs have been cut, including I Guess this is Goodbye/Maybe They're Magic, Ever After, So Happy, Agony Reprise, and No More.
