I have quite a bit of questions and details to ask and thank you so much Atlantica.
How is the movie compared to the likes of Alice, Oz and SWaTH?
Is this better than the leaked script?
How are the three pixies in this?
How are the performances in it? What happens during the final fight between Maleficent and Stefan?
How does the relationship between Maleficent and Aurora work out?
Does Prince Phillip have a bigger role than he did in the leaked script?
Are the visuals great? And does Maleficent goes through a redepmtion of some sort?
That's all.
Disney, Pixar, Rodgers and Hammerstein, and Cinema fan
I purchased the soundtrack on iTunes, and it really is fantastic. I especially love the music from the Christening. To quote Maleficent herself, "How wonderful!"

I'm nervous about the embargo lift tomorrow...I can't remember the last time critics were told to keep this hush-hush SO CLOSE to a release and it being a good outcome.
I really want this movie to be at least good if not great. I don't care that it re-imagines the Sleeping Beauty plot, just so long as it's good.

Well, If the movie is what we think it'll be, based on the spoilers from the books, I think it's a good choice.
I've already decided that when I watch it, I'll try my best to think of it as a brand new film, but that will be hard.
The industry projections for this movie are really low and I don't think Disney wants anything to lower that number. Keeping the critics reviews on embargo will probably not do anything that big, but who knows.
I personally think that Alice in Wonderland was way too violent for a kids movie, and from the things that I've heard about Maleficent, I'd say it treading on thin water.
I don't think parents want their kids to see another disney character cross a river by walking on severed heads.
But... My friends all want to go see the movie and I'm also going to see it.
So far I can say 2 things that I'll about the movie, the score and the art direction. So let's hope the story is not as bad as I think it is.

Musical Master wrote:I have bought the soundtrack on Itunes and James Newton Howard's score is not only breathtaking, but it is his personal best work since King Kong. If you listen to the entire track of: "Maleficent is Captured", it makes Christophe Beck's entire score to Frozen sound like it was played by the Silver String Submarine Band from Our Gang.
Seriously though, it was an amazing soundtrack and worth the price; and now I am more excited than ever for the movie which is coming in 3 days!
OMG, so I was just listening to it on youtube.
During 'Maleficent is Captured' at around 5:37.... It sounds A LOT like when dragon Maleficent was trying to bite Phillip... So.. could it be??!! Does she turn into a dragon??!!
Also, you can tell from the music the moment that Maleficent gets her wings back.
Very impressed with this score, but will have to wait till the movie comes out to truly judge it. But I already know it's good.

There was a review of the movie in a dutch paper today. It wasn't very long but they didn't like it. Just 2 stars out of 5. They found it 'too much battle scenes and action' I believe.
Usually, these big summer blockbuster movies start in the 90s range and then go down to about 70s.
So let's hope for the people who like the movie that it'll do good.
Either way, it won't really matter to me. I'm still going to see it.

It's already dropped to 58% (which makes it rotten on the site). I'm sure it will move around a bit over the weekend, but at the moment, OZ has a higher fresh rate.
I just got back from seeing it. I really have been looking forward to this since hearing about it years ago, and Sleeping Beauty is my favourite Disney movie. It was ok. It was good. It wasn't terrible. I was just "meh" about it honestly. It was very cheesy and parts of the story felt rushed.
HOWEVER, what I really think? It's a camp classic. In about 10 or 20 years it will be a camp classic. Why? Because of Angelina Jolie's performance. She actually didn't play it as straight (no pun intended) in the movie as the trailers made it come across. I don't know if that was intentional, but I just couldn't take anything she said seriously. I don't know how to explain it. Ever see Mommie Dearest? Yeah, kinda like that. Oh, and at the end during the battle scene her robe gets pulled off and she's wearing this studded leather catsuit type thing.
Really and truly thoroughly enjoyed it ! Out of the recent Disney live action fare, it's by far and away my favourite.
SPOILERS AHEAD; I DIDNT WANT TO BLANK OUT EVERYTHING I WAS WRITING. PLEASE READ WITH CAUTION IF YOU WANT TO BE TRULY UNSPOILED
Musical Master, here you go:
How is the movie compared to the likes of Alice, Oz and SWaTH? - Personally, I greatly preferred this to all of them. It had more heart to it I think; I cared for and Maleficent and how her story unfolded. I cared not a jot for Alice, Oz and Snow. This is what gives Maleficent it's greatest asset; Angelina in her role, giving soul to the character.
Is this better than the leaked script? - I've not read the leaked script, I'm sorry.
How are the three pixies in this? - They're cute, light relief. They act as a catalyst for Maleficent to take an interest in the baby Aurora. Hands down, I prefer their incarnations in the 'original' Disney film. But for this story's end, they serve their purpose in their new incarnations.
How are the performances in it? Angelina should be nominated for a Golden Globe for this, she's just wonderful. Yes, there is some scenery chewing, but I never thought she was camp and playing it up. Sam Riley was wonderful as well, I wasn't expecting to love his character so much. Elle was ok, nothing special. I could think of a handful of girls that could have done her job better. She was fine, but it didn't go much beyond that.
What happens during the final fight between Maleficent and Stefan? She has been greatly weakened as Stefan's army uses only iron armour, which is fatal to fairies. Aurora releases her wings from their cage, and just as Stefan is about to kill her, her wings find her! They attach themselves back onto her, and she releases Diaval from the army and tries to fly away but he grabs onto her, dragging her down. She's about to kill him, but stops herself saying 'It's done'. Then he comes at her again, they both fall from the turret and he dies. She looks on sadly at him.
How does the relationship between Maleficent and Aurora work out? Aurora is Maleficent's true love, and Maleficent makes her Queen of the Moors.
Does Prince Phillip have a bigger role than he did in the leaked script? I can't comment.
Are the visuals great? Visuals are lovely. Creatures etc are great but nothing we haven't seen before. What is really wonderful though is her flying. That's really epic.
And does Maleficent goes through a redepmtion of some sort? Yes and no …. you can see why she did everything that she did, and can really agree with her reasons for it. It's not so much a redemption, but … a revelation she goes through. There is love in the world.
Few bits from me:
* The girl who played the young Maleficent was brilliant.
* The Disney logo becoming Stefan's castle was a nice touch.
* The whole christening scene …. just wow.
* The narration was wonderful; I wasn't expecting that. It tightened the story and felt like 'classic' Disney … an homage to the original perhaps ? I forget the wording, but something like 'Once upon a time, you were told a tale of a sleeping beauty…now let us tell you an old story anew'.
In all, I thought it was brilliant. Yes, it had some faults but overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the story; the premise and idea were executed brilliantly…much more so than I was fearing before. So I urge you to see it in 3D if you can as well; not so much for the effects (we've seen it all before), but for the flying. That's just wonderful.

Are the visuals great? And does Maleficent goes through a redepmtion of some sort?
That's all.
I just got back and I really liked it. The beginning was a bit 'neh' for me, but starting with the grown up Maleficent everything is going uphill. I'll try to answer some of your questions, but I'll put them in spoiler tags.
How is the movie compared to the likes of Alice, Oz and SWaTH?
It's better. I didn't like Alice a lot, because I thought it was all over the place but this one is a tight package of story. The short runtime is short but it works out fine for the movie.
Is this better than the leaked script?
Didn't read that, sorry.
How are the three pixies in this?
Annoying. When they were little, the CGI was not that good, they had a 'fake' feeling. I also thought it was strange how Aurora could spend all this time with Maleficent; didn't the aunts notice she was gone?
How are the performances in it?
Jolie nailed it. Amazing voice acting + expressions. She stole the movie, tbh.
What happens during the final fight between Maleficent and Stefan?
It is stated in the beginning that fairies cannot touch iron, so when she comes to the castle he is ready with his knights. They drop an iron grid on her and while Aurora tries to save her, she turns the raven into a dragon. However, it does not work and Aurora goes and free the wings. They return to Maleficent and she is winning the battle. Stefan throws a robe around her foot and together they fly out of a window (I bet that would have been great in 3D but I saw 2D) and they are on a rooftop. She says: 'this is now over' or something like that and turns away but he jumps on her back and they fall down together. She flies and he dies.
How does the relationship between Maleficent and Aurora work out?
Smooth. It was okay.
Does Prince Phillip have a bigger role than he did in the leaked script?
Did not read that.
Are the visuals great?
Most of the times, they are.
And does Maleficent goes through a redepmtion of some sort?
No, because she was never evil. You could see that she really wanted to lift the curse and she felt really bad when Aurora was asleep, but she was never evil. She was misunderstood.
Some other spoilers: Maleficent does not turn into a dragon, the queen dies, the pixies and Mal were friends in the beginning and at the end. The battle scenes are not too much in this movie, they work out fine. It is hinted at the end that Aurora will marry Phillip but nothing is official.

I liked that, at the end, the narrator was revealed to be Aurora and that she said: 'I was the sleeping beauty'.
Glad you liked it!
