I absolutely LOVE the new casting choices. Brendan Gleeson and Miranda Richardson will bring so much to their roles, and then there's the ultimate casting of all: Ralph Fiennes as Voldemort. That choice is so freaking perfect that I just want to hug the casting directors. He'll truly make Voldemort chilling yet human, even for the 15 minutes or so he'll be in the film. I can't WAIT to see him in full makeup. Hopefully they'll make him look creepier than the CGI Voldie from movie one.

Hey where is John Cleese as the nearly headless guy?

Nearly-Headless Nick? Alas, he's probably been cut out of the film again. At this point, the only time I can see him coming back is when Harry stops him in the hall at the very end of Order of the Phoenix to ask him if there's ever a possibility of Sirius coming back as a ghost. It's not exactly an essential scene - in fact I have a sneaking suspicion that Rowling put it in to stop any fan spectulation before it started - LOL! - but it's an emotionally powerful one. It shows Harry's desperation and denial in a sharp, painful light - I think it would work well on film.

So of course, they would need John Cleese again for that. So, uh... how good is he at portraying pathos?

Great thread, I found some other pictures of cast members. Sorry, but some are a little weird, but I think most give a good impression of the actor/actress. Once again, GREAT casting. Like someone already said, they've yet to let down on casting. Great choices

This is great, the only one I'm a little iffy on is the woman cast for Madame Maxime... but after the first 3, I trust that they know what they are doing.

As for Nearly Headless Nick, I would much rather see Peeves! Paka, in an interview once, JK said something about ghosts being extremely important to the series (this was in b/w book 4 and 5), especially how they come to be. She said book 5 would really emphasize that, which it did to a degree I suppose, but maybe more importance lies there for the next two books? (Or 3 books, since she is considering an 8th!)

I think the whole Department of mysteries stuff and ghosts will have a connection in the last two books. As for book 8, unfortunately that is only a twist of her words. There will be no 8th book. What she is considering however, is a book about the Harry Potter Universe, some sort of Encyclopedia about HP with all the stuff that never made the books. Personally I'd much rather have that than an additional 8th book

Does it have to be one or the other? Well, maybe it does, considering that they are taking so much out of the books. They really should have filmed every scene from each book and released extended editions on DVDs as was done with Lord of the Rings.

All I have to say is that Frances De La Tour is going to have to at least double her weight or wear 3000 pairs of clothes if she expects to look anything remotely close to Madame Maxime. If Hagrid hugs her on film like that, we may not even see her.

I wish she would write an 8th book, but I don't think she would have the ideas to. It would end up being some last minute thinking going in to a book that everyone will buy and then become disappointed. No, Rowling will want to end it perfectly with the 7th. So the encyclopedia idea looks good for now.

Well the encyclopedia sounds cool too. When I read the article on CNN, I took it to mean that she was considering a prequel of postquel, either dealing with Harry's parents or with Harry as an adult. That would be way cool!

Well, they certianlly didn't pick those movie stars for their looks. But looks like some great new people in the movie. I am sure, this film is going to be a smash hit like the 3 previous ones. Can't wait to see this one

I found something, on the FAQ section of JK Rowling's website, where she says:

Q: Will you write more Harry Potter books after the seventh?

A: If you mean more novels, then I think it highly unlikely. I’ve got enough story for seven books and I never planned to carry the story beyond the end of book seven. I might do an eighth book for charity, a kind of encyclopaedia of the world so that I could use all the extra material that’s not in the books... we’ll see!


I think other articles twisted her words a little. After all, an 8th book as addition sounds more exciting to some people. I really like the idea of an encyclopedia though

I think Parker Posey would be an ideal Rita Skeeter. Ok, she's not British (Canadian I think), but being as she works in the media, even in the Wizarding world, I don't think it would really matter or be out of place.

Personally I'm not happy with Ralph Fiennes casting. It doesn't match the character as I see him. I always imagined him as being somebody who is not as refined as he thinks he is. Basically I see him as somebody pretending to be somebody he isn't. And to me, Finnes is.

That said, I don't know who I would cast.

yoda-four, I like those pictures of the new cast members, but I don't think you should have put as (character) after your pics. It got me confused because they werent in character makeup in those photos. I can't wait to see Miranda Richardson as Rita. The only other movie I've seen her in is the live-action TV movie version of Alice in Wonderland, and she was anoying as heck in that! But, those are all awesome actors for those roles!

Barty Crouch Jr. seems a little old...I always imagined him to be in his mid-20s. This guy looks 40-ish.
