Re: Disney Movies Anywhere - Share your ideas!
This is sweet! I was a heavy user of Disney Movies Online . . . I upgraded a bunch of titles I had on DVD/Blu-Ray to DMO (paid the $5.99 or so for each of them) and I was kind of pissed when they shuttered the service. They gave me a check refunding all of the fees I'd paid. It was about $150 (yeah, I had upgraded a lot of titles).
So when I signed into this new service, guess what? All of those movies I'd bought were all there! Even old ones like Aladdin. I am beyond stunned. I figured unless I had the movie in my iTunes account currently, I'd be out of luck or would have to re-buy the digital rights or wait until the Blu-Ray releases with the digital copy.
And, they even imported all of the movies I have in Amazon Instant Video (or at least the ones I put there when I entered a code, but not the ones I purchased).
Well done, Disney. Today, you can color me impressed!

Yeah, I was surprised to see my amazon movies were added too. It would be great if it eventually goes both ways and I can view everything on amazon instant video on my TV. Still, for it being Day One, I'm impressed with what they've done so far.
Also, I love how the classic animated features are in order of recent release (even if they are all paired with DisneyToon Studios as well)

Is this only on Itunes? If so I'm pretty much not going to be able to enjoy this feature

As of now, yes, but Disney has stated in several articles that came out today that they will be expanding this to other retailers willing todisneyboy20022 wrote:Is this only on Itunes? If so I'm pretty much not going to be able to enjoy this feature

Yes, but I think if you enters magic codes for any of your movies that had a digital copy it will add it to your account (assuming you're using the same account as you are using for Disney Movie Rewards).disneyboy20022 wrote:Is this only on Itunes? That seems to be the case for me. It didn't port anything I bought on Amazon Instant Video, but for those digital copies I redeemed on Amazon Instant Video because iTunes wasn't an option (Sword in the Stone, Mickeys Christmas Carol, Muppet Movie, etc.) they all seem to have ported over.

Re: Disney Movies Anywhere - Share your ideas!
I was shocked when they dropped this so suddenly. I mean, yes they advertised it to death around 2011-2012 but then they suddenly stopped and when they pulled the "digitalcopyplus" service last summer the whole concept was thought to be buried.
Still it misses it's main selling point: Mobility!! The service will not work if you're abroad.
I am not a US resident. My iPad was purchased in the US and I have a US iTunes account (in addition to my local one) which I used to download the new app. When I use the app, I am connected to my US account on both the iTunes Store and the App Store so technically my iPad is "tricked" into being just like any US user's iPad and I still cannot use the app to log-in, let alone watch any of the movies. That means, that neither will any of the US users when they're outside the country will be able to!!
Now, the whole point of this service is to have our movies on the go, on our mobile devices: iPads, iPhones, iPods, etc. So what does Disney do? They block the access when you're abroad, even if you are a US resident!! This is really messed up. If you're a US user, get on a plane outside the US and the service is blocked. Even the service's name is a joke, it should be renamed "Disney Movies Anywhere In The US"
Still, it's great to have free HD upgrades to all of our digitally copies, hats off to them for that!!

Re: Disney Movies Anywhere - Share your ideas!
Okay.... the app is excellent, but far from perfect. Why? Because I tested out Mary Poppins and The Little Mermaid and they didn't use their new HD masters. So far, the only one that apparently does so is Monsters, Inc. for me.

Re: Disney Movies Anywhere - Share your ideas!
This actually has to do with the way you purchased the films. If you didn't buy them in HD through iTunes, or if the digital copy came that came with your blu-ray wasn't a Digital Copy HD (Mermaid and Poppins came with SD Digital Copies), then the copy that plays in Disney Movies Anywhere won't be HD.DisneyJedi wrote:Okay.... the app is excellent, but far from perfect. Anyways, obviously I've been eagerly anticipating this, and I'm really quite happy with what they have so far. I'm happy to see that many of the ideas I mentioned in my first post were similar to what they were working on. There are a few things I'd like to see added.
First, a glaring omission is a tag for "Animated Classics". There's a tag for "Animation" which includes any and all animated films, a tag for "Classics" which includes acclaimed animated and live action films from before 2000, but no way to view only the WDAS films. There is an option to view only Pixar, which is great.
Second, just as the previous incarnation, Disney Movies Online, allowed, I'd like to be able to upgrade my currently owned blu-rays to digital copies for a smaller fee than simply buying the film through iTunes full-priced.
I'm sure I'll find more, but for now this a great start to what I think will be a very important step into the future of how Disney handles distribution of their films. I like that they are completely in charge of their content. That's the way it should be. And I love the amount of bonus features they've included with some titles, although it still seems to be inconsistent - some titles have a TON of their bonus features included, while others have very few or none at all, even if their physical releases had plenty. I'm sure they will be continually adding to it.

Re: Disney Movies Anywhere - Share your ideas!
This is a great service, even though I don't have an iPad. It made me realize, though, how many non-digital copy versions of my Disney Blu-rays I have.

Will there/could there, be plans to release many of the Anthology films, from the "Wonderful World of Color" series ( such as "Escapade in Florence, Johnny Shiloh, The Horsemasters, Scarecrow of Romney Marsh), as well as episodes of serials like "Davy Crocket", "Texas John Slaughter" and others?

Re: Disney Movies Anywhere - Share your ideas!
Yes, there is room for a LOT of improvement, but I'm not gonna give em any criticism after one day (especially since I don't have to re-buy all movies from scratch, like I thought I would). I imagine the limited-to-apple-only deal is the reason there was no big announcement in the media. I think of this as a soft opening kind of thing.
I just hope that they open this up to devices that don't use iOS sooner rather than later. The only thing by Apple I have is a Macbook Pro and classic iPod. My phone is a droid, my tablet is a kindle fire, and my tv is panasonic with built in streaming apps like Netflix, Amazon and Vudu (no iTunes).

That's weird. Both are the HD masters on my account, and have their blu-ray special features too.DisneyJedi wrote:Okay.... the app is excellent, but far from perfect. Why? Re: Disney Movies Anywhere - Share your ideas!
I'm guessing that the cover art is dictated by the app itself, and there is probably only a single cover used for each film, regardless of how it was originally bought. I'd love to see them add cover art options to the app - for each film, give a number of options to choose from and let us save our favorite.

Re: Disney Movies Anywhere - Share your ideas!
I'm a little disappointed. I only have an iPhone 3, so I can't download the app since I can't access IOS 7, and now I can't hook up my DMR account with my iTunes to get my free Incredibles download.
Still, this is a cool idea, even if I can't access it.

You can still access it on your computer, including the free Incredibles copy.

Re: Disney Movies Anywhere - Share your ideas!
I have some question about this service that hopefully you guys might clear up here.
There are a few movies that did not show up in my collection. The two I am missing are The Muppet Movie and Mickey's Christmas Carol. They are on my Amazon.com Video Library only b/c Disney didn't allow us to download via iTunes, as we all know they are picking and choosing. Should these be in my collection even though I downloaded them to Amazon.com?
Do we get every movie, that is available on their site so far, we ever physically purchased when we entered the DMR code or only the ones that came with a digital copy?

I find you pompous, judgemental, and completely self-absorbed.........would you be my friend?

Yeah, I downloaded it on my Mac, but I'm not sure how to access it here.SWillie! wrote:You can still access it on your computer, including the free Incredibles copy.

They should be. Both ported over for me. With respect to your other question, I'm pretty sure you only get those that came with a digital copy.chadhobbick wrote:I have some question about this service that hopefully you guys might clear up here.

You don't have to download anything, just go to Disneymoviesanywhere.com, sign in and watch away!Avaitor wrote:Yeah, I downloaded it on my Mac, but I'm not sure how to access it here.SWillie! wrote:You can still access it on your computer, including the free Incredibles copy.

Re: Disney Movies Anywhere - Share your ideas!
The thing is, I logged on, and I still don't have The Incredibles or my account synched to my iTunes. When it asks to go to the iTunes shop so I can obtain the app, that's all it'll do. I can't add in my DMR info my iTunes, or whatever it is, but I just can't make them sync.SWillie! wrote:You don't have to download anything, just go to Disneymoviesanywhere.com, sign in and watch away!Avaitor wrote: Yeah, I downloaded it on my Mac, but I'm not sure how to access it here.

Re: Disney Movies Anywhere - Share your ideas!
chadhobbick, have you redeemed the DMR points for both titles? or did you only use the code on the DC+ website to download the Amazon copies? For these titles (the ones that originally were only available through Vudu or Amazon) you'll have to redeem the DMR points, otherwise they won't carry over.RyGuy wrote:They should be. Basically what we get is:
1) Every movie for which we redeemed it's digital copy on iTunes (everything will be upgraded to HD).
2) Every movie for which we redeemed it's DMR points, that originally included a digital copy in the pack, whether we have redeemed the digital copy on any provider or not at all (these will be upgraded to HD as well).
3) Every Movie we bought digitally directly on iTunes (these ones will not upgrade to HD unless we have originally purchased an HD copy).
