I was in Times Square last night (I went to see Frozen, it was amazing!) and I walked by the Amsterdam and thought I'd snap this pic for you all
I totally can't wait to see it!

That Aladdin marquee looks great. Plus it's nice to know that the team wants to do some good amount of changes before it bows on Broadway.

I'm just going to leave this here

https://d23.com/first-look-aladdin-on-broadway/
Pictures are from Toronto not Broadway rehearsals. You can tell as they still have the fake camels for the opening and there's a picture from Call Me a Princess.
Disney held off releasing a production photo of Jafar for so long (none were released for the 2011 production, just behind the scenes stuff) I thought they'd make more fuss but they just slipped these out end of last week.

The cynic in me that spends too much time on social media wonders if they've held off on releasing production photos of Jafar because of Jonathan's ethnicity. I've seen a few rumblings here and there about "the cast being white," even though I think only 2 or 3 supporting characters are played by white actors.
Re: Aladdin Coming to Broadway!
I'll be seeing the show the first night on Broadway (February 26th)! I'm so excited to see this on stage, considering I've yet to see a bad Disney on Broadway musical (I've seen Beauty and the Beast twice, The Lion King twice, Mary Poppins once, and The Little Mermaid four times).
Re: Aladdin Coming to Broadway!
Can anyone post the photos on here for us all to see? As at the moment it is members only

You can set up a free membership for the website, you don't need to be a silver or gold subscriber to D23. That said nowhere in the article does it say "exclusive" and I have asked Disney for permission to put the photos up on my Aladdin Musical blog but I haven't had a reply yet (which probably means I won't get one, they sent me the HD versions of the first photos within a few hours). I cracked with the Jafar picture though as everyone's waited so long to see it!
Teej - hope you enjoy it! I'm going in March and can't wait!

Re: Aladdin Coming to Broadway!
Those are beautiful photos!!
Also: According to someone on BroadwayWorld, they have removed Babkak, Omar and Kassim's role as narrator's throughout the show.
I am stunned, seriously stunned! I did not expect such a big change, especially with Disney Theatrical's tendency to only touch the surface of shows with changes before they premiere.
Previews start next week, I hope we'll get some more information about what has been changed!
I really hope that A Million Miles Away was not cut, however. It was such a beautiful song and I have been hoping for a professional recording since I saw the show.

Re: Aladdin Coming to Broadway!
I read that as well, but there was so much new stuff released yesterday that I still haven't read it all and haven't been able to find a source for it. Like you say, if it's true then it's a major change, easily the biggest Disney have ever done between previews and Broadway as it changes the entire structure of the show. I'm kinda torn between wanting to know and wanting it to be a surprise when I see the show next month so I'm going to have to be really careful doing the blog for the next few weeksrubyslippers wrote:According to someone on BroadwayWorld, they have removed Babkak, Omar and Kassim's role as narrator's throughout the show.I am stunned, seriously stunned! And yeah, if A Million Miles Away is removed then I'll just cry as I love that song!

How come there was zilch showing of Jafar in that promo reel ?

Re: Aladdin Coming to Broadway!
They seem to be playing Jafar very close to the vest. The only pictures out from the 5th Avenue Pilot were back stage photos (there was 1 production photo of him used in the Mice Chat youtube interview but it was never released anywhere else that I could find), the only Toronto picture of him is the one posted above and that was a members only D23 picture. I imagine as we get near opening (20th March) we'll be seeing and hearing a lot more about Jonathan Freeman.
I was more surprised to see the ensemble members and no Kassim, Babkak or Omar. I loved that the ensemble members had a chance to shine and they look great, I just thought we'd see more of the leads than we did (Sultan too for that matter).
This morning though I think the biggest question I have is whether or not the cast album has been recorded and, if the rumours are true, was it done before or after the big changes were made?!

It's true. Casey Nicholaw (the director/choreographer) said so in this interview during press day.ChrisLyne wrote:I read that as well, but there was so much new stuff released yesterday that I still haven't read it all and haven't been able to find a source for it.

Re: Aladdin Coming to Broadway!
Wow, I honestly wasn't expecting it to have been confirmed so publically, I thought it would just have been industry chatter!
This raises so many questions. I'm a little upset, I loved the trio in Utah, but every comment from Toronto was that the changes were making the show stronger so I trust the creative team to know what they're doing and that this will be for the best. I'm going to have to avoid message boards once it opens, it'll be so nice to have some surprises when I see it next month
