I've noticed it! I think it pops because it's a cheerful bright color against a blend of dark and dull colors. Like a red balloon floating away in an overcast sky.

I'm finding it really tough to resist watching it again :/ I watched it 3 times in 4 days when I first got it and I've managed to not let myself watch it again...but the temptation is so strong!

GREAT NEWS! Disney is now offering replacement discs for the 2D blu-ray and DVD that fixes both the Scuttle transition and the Part of Your World error. All you have to do is call them and say you are calling about the Little Mermaid replacement disc program and read off some numbers from your package and they will take your address information mail you a prepaid envelope to ship back your discs and they will send you corrected discs that are currently being pressed. The only bad news is they are not replacing the 3D discs at this time, but this is still great news that they'v reacted this fast after release when they could have pulled a Lion King and ignored complaints altogether.

Also, it's been confirmed that anyone who redeems their digital copies on Amazon and Vudu will get the corrected version of the film right now. iTunes still has the errors in it though.

I just called them, talked with a lovely woman named Regina. When I called to explain what I was calling for, she already knew the issue at hand and was ready to take down my information. She maintained a pleasant, appreciative tone, and made sure to repeat back my information to confirm it was correct. As DancingCrab said, you'll give your information, they'll send you a sticker and a letter (which you fill out detailing the issue at hand). You'll use this pre-paid sticker on whatever packaging you'll use to send back the discs (the discs only, not the Blu-Ray case or Target Digibook), and once they receive those, they'll send the corrected discs to you.

The whole conversation took no more than ten minutes, and the last few we spent just talking about our favorite Disney movies. Incidentally, hers was The Little Mermaid because she loves the songs and enjoys the vibrant, colorful animation. Mine was Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin, as I called it, since those two movies generally remain joined at the hip for me and I'd never be able to make a "Sophie's Choice" between them.

It would help to have the following information ready when you call:

1. Your Name, Phone Number, E-mail, and address. It's especially helpful if you've dealt with their replacement program before (True-Life Adventures, More Silly Symphonies, Pinocchio...), as they'll already have you in the system.

2. The Stock Number on the case. This can be found on the Proof-of-Purchase tab above the barcode (for anyone who bought the Target digibook, do not throw away that rear cardboard cover, it contains information).

3. The serial numbers for both the 2D Blu-Ray and the DVD. The Blu-Ray should begin with BVDL, while the DVD begins with DVDL. I'm not sure if the amount of numbers afterwards will be consistent on every batch of discs, mine was ######A# for the Blu-Ray, then #######A# for the DVD.

Also, I advise anyone who does this by phone to stay for the survey at the end. It would help to let Disney know how wonderful their operators are (if you get someone as good as Regina), and you can leave a voice message at the end, which can be used to show both appreciation for the replacement program, criticism for allowing such a mistake to happen, and any other issues you have with WDSHE. ;) Above all, make sure to let them know that you now are a satisfied customer, and that because of this, you will continue to buy their products if they maintain this level of quality and customer service.

For anyone who's canceled their pre-order or opted not to buy this, I'd advise that you buy the film (especially before the first-week sales end) and partake in the replacement program, since Disney likely won't be issuing replacement copies in brick-and-mortar stores. I doubt they'd want to recall all the existing stock, then send them out again with the corrected discs. (Even though Paramount did for their faulty discs in Saving Private Ryan and Gladiator, but those were back in 2009/2010.) It's much easier for them to simply sell the existing stock (mistake and all), and let those who wish to get the fixed version go to the trouble.

Gonna call now! Thanks for the info! I only wish they'd issue a replacement disc for the 3D disc.

UPDATE: just called and spoke with "Amber". She was super friendly and it only took about 5 minutes to complete the process. My information was already on file because I had called about the "Pinocchio" replacement disc. They are sending a replacement for the Blu-ray and DVD. There still isn't a replacement for the 3D disc but she said she would make a note of it and if enough people requested it there is a possibility they may issue one. I was kinda disappointed because I didn't get to take the survey, the phone just cut off after she hung up.

I know they can't replace the 3D version, but will they replace the regular Blu-Ray and DVD discs from this version of the release? It's the one I would buy, just because it comes with everything, but I just want to be sure they'll replace the non-3D discs in that one or not before I do. Overall, glad they're replacing these, because the colors look so nice on this release v. the Platinum, so I didn't want to pass it over.

Not sure if anyone would know. :?:

Btw, thanks Escapay for the instructions/help, because I've honestly never called Disney to ask for a replacement before, so I would be really confused, tbh.

I believe they will. When Regina asked for the stock number, since I gave the one from the Target Digibook, I heard her say, "Oh, it's the Target exclusive" to herself. As I understand it, Disney will offer replacements for the 2D Blu-Ray and the DVD, in whichever edition you get, be it the 4-disc release (3DBD/BD/DVD/DC), the 3-disc release (BD/DVD/DC), the 2-disc release (BD/DVD), or any other variation I've missed (like the Target Digibook). They probably just collect the stock number to see which edition it came from, but it's the serial number on the discs that is what they're looking for.

You're welcome, Divinity. :)

And glad to hear you had a great experience with Amber, tlc38tlc38! It's too bad you didn't get take the survey, though. But on the plus side, when you receive the sticker and form letter, you can write your message there. :)

I mentioned when I called that I have the 3D combo pack and she said that I can still get the regular Blu-ray and the DVD replaced. You won't be mailing them back in their case anyway so just find an envelope that will fit the two discs and you can still get them replaced. I also put my name down as one of those interested in a 3D replacement too.

AWESOME news. Thanks for sharing! And big kudos to Disney, I really didn't think we'd see this happen.

Where did you guys find this? Are they advertising it somewhere?

This is such exciting news! I'm so happy that they decided to offer a replacement discs. I ended up buying the 3D version, love the cover, and Target Edition. I hope they are willing to replace the discs in both of my sets. I'll have to call tomorrow.

Hey guys! I was planning to buy the US blu-ray, but I would love to have the corrected one.

What should I do? If I buy it now at amazon, will it be the corrected disc already? And if it's not, do you think that they will ship the correct discs outside the US? (in Spain)?

Should I wait?

Wow, after the lion king thing I seriously was not expecting them to do this. Looks like I'll be getting this afterall.

While I don't have a 3D set or player yet, I do hope they replace those at some point down the line.

Thanks! That's very good to know. Like everybody else, I'm still just kind of shocked they made replacements, because I never expected them to and was a bit put out.

What is the difference between the Target Edition and the regular Blu-Ray/DVD edition? Does it just come with the book or is the cover/case a bit different? I was thinking about getting the TLM Target Edition, too, but it would be a bit of a drive to Target to check it our for myself so I wanted to be sure beforehand.
