Will Disney save Star Wars?
The last 3 SW movies left a bad taste in some mouths especially fans of the old trilogy, but now that Disney bought SW/Lucasfilm i'm sure they will do a good job making a trilogy as worthy as the old trilogy.
I mean we got a good writer doing the script instead of Lucas and a good director who is passionate about SW which is a good move. And could this be based on one of the SW novels?

With the 'super' secret not very secret three original cast members from Star Wars IV, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford will be appearing briefly in the seventh chapter of the Star Wars movies. It will be the basis for introducing the kids of Han and Leia and Luke and his bride. Longer than a cameo, but much shorter than a starring role for these three, and you can bet that J.J. Abrams will have his say about which direction these next three movies go.
Also he is "fast-tracking" the third Star Trek movie because Zachary Quinto (Spock) wants to pursue a Broadway career and wants out of his deal to make these Trek movies. Abrams wants to get the third one done and in the can before beginning actual production on the new Star Wars movies.

The movies will NOT be based on any EU material, that has been reported.
They announced that they are using as many practical effects and models as possible and are shooting the movie on film. They seem to be going out of their way to appease Original Trilogy fans, while looking to pull in new fans with their Star Wars Rebels tv show. They spent billions on this and are expecting a big return on their investment. There should be nothing to worry about.

Sounds nice and isn't it cool JJ Abrahams is directing? i mean he is a huge fan of the OT and was disappointed in the last 3 movies as he wants this to be more in the old school SW mode.
And who's glad the guy who wrote the excellent screenplay to Toy Story 3 is writing it?

But wouldn't he be required to sign a NDA about this? Also, I'd like to see more than a cameo from them. Fans have waited for them to come back for all of these years. I want to see them in the film and a be a real part of it, not just another background passing character. I'm sure that their kids will be introduced and featured heavily but the big draw is to see the Big Three back together again. They aren't hiring personal trainers and dieticians for Hamill and Fisher for nothing.dvdjunkie wrote:PatrickvD wrote:You forget that I am on a first name basis with Harrison Ford, and when he comes to Wichita, he and our family go out to dinner and discuss all sorts of things from movies to flying his new helicopter. Also, I will help you to prove to these people that you actually know Harrison Ford. If you can get his autograph and send it to me, I will be able to back up your story. I am MORE than willing to do that.

It won't be a direct adaptation of anything, but I wouldn't be surprised if they use characters like the Solo twins because George and Kathleen do see the EU as something they can mine for movie ideas for years to come.Maerj wrote:HarryCanyon wrote:The last 3 SW movies left a bad taste in some mouths especially fans of the old trilogy, but now that Disney bought SW/Lucasfilm i'm sure they will do a good job making a trilogy as worthy as the old trilogy.

Re: Will Disney save Star Wars?
Oh ok so it's an original story.
But does anyone agree Lucas betrayed his fans with the prequels and Indy 4 and anyone glad Disney bought Lucasfilm? i think it makes sense since we have those awesome attractions. That means we'll get an Indy/SW park sometime at Disneyworld.
I'm sure Disney will do Indiana Jones 5 with a new actor and a new director plus a good writer.

What makes you think George Lucas betrayed his fans by simply releasing the prequels and Kingdom of the Crystal Skull? Sure, he got backlash for those, but I don't see how those are considered betrayal material.

Re: Will Disney save Star Wars?
They can take elements from the Expanded Universe, however JJ Abrams and Disney doesn't have to follow them to a carbonite copy so to speak
I think they will incorproate Han and Leia having the Jedi Twins or they will have some kids in the movie doing the running around the galaxy. Harrison Ford right now is 71, so I don't see him doing a lot of the action he did many Death Stars ago. Same goes for Carrie Fisher who's 56 and Mark Hamil who turned 61 on Monday. They most likely won't be doing all of the action they did in the original trilogy at all...
Also I don't think it's Disney that will save Star Wars, I feel it's Star Wars who will save Disney

Thanks Aurora, I was wondering how to ask this tactfully, but realized there was no nice way.Super Aurora wrote:PICS proof or you're full of shit.dvdjunkie wrote:PatrickvD wrote: You forget that I am on a first name basis with Harrison Ford, and when he comes to Wichita, he and our family go out to dinner and discuss all sorts of things from movies to flying his new helicopter. Re: Will Disney save Star Wars?
I think I read somewhere that around 2018 Disney will have full control over the originals, at least distributing them and all. So it'll be a while. I'm just glad I was able to pick up the DVDs with the bonus disc featuring the unedited versions of the original trilogy.HarryCanyon wrote:I'm sure once 20th Century Fox gives up SW they'll give Disney the unscrewed with OT on BD.
The only scene I have a huge problem with that they screwed up was at the end of Jedi where they have Vader scream noooo on the Blu Ray the first time it was released. I'm not even going to touch the new releases in October given I don't won't to double dip on more edits and tampering than I already have.

Re: Will Disney save Star Wars?
It's 2020 actually and doesn't include Episode IV. The first Star Wars film was fully paid and produced by Fox, so they own it as long as they decide to sell it (if they ever will).disneyboy20022 wrote:I think I read somewhere that around 2018 Disney will have full control over the originals, at least distributing them and all.HarryCanyon wrote:I'm sure once 20th Century Fox gives up SW they'll give Disney the unscrewed with OT on BD.

No no no no no. Betraying somebody is when they tell you a secret about themselves and you deliberately blab their secret to everyone else, thus humiliating thm for life.

Re: Will Disney save Star Wars?
Note exclusively to Super Aurora, PatrickvD, and Maerj:
Since I have been on these forums, which goes back before some of you were even able to not have to wear diapers, I have told you about my job as a shuttle driver for the Hyatt Regency Hotel here in Wichita, Kansas. This goes was back to 2002 and one of the things I liked about the job, was my call to take the Hotel limousine out to the airport for special guests like Billy Dee Williams, Glenn Close, Kevin Costner, Clint Eastwood, Dennis Quaid, Kurt Russell, Goldie Hawn, Harrison Ford, Cher, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Jeff Foxworthy, Bill Engval, Larry the Cable Guy, Linda Ronstadt, and many, many more.
I have told everyone that Wichita, Kansas is that secret hideway that was a great destination for celebrities because they were not hounded, and could walk the streets without their entourage of security. The Hyatt Regency had a guest list of over 240 celebrities who called Wichita their home two or three times a year. Over 15 movies have been shot around Wichita in the Flint Hills, and just outside Dodge City, and several other beautiful locations in the Heartland.
Many times I have been called on to extraordinary things for some of our guests. One time my Manager called me about 12 midnight, knowing that I was supposed to get off at 12:30 a.m. to ask a favor. One particular night, he asked if I could take the Shuttle out to Goddard, which is about 10 miles west of Wichita, and pick up five members of a rock band who were on their way to California. I was to get information from their bus driver about where the broken down bus was going to be taken and then give him all the information for the Hotel and I told him to call at least 30 minutes before they were to be picked up. The Band? Thought you would never ask. Sammy Hagar and the Waboritas. I received a $100 tip from for being so prompt coming to get them and making the ride to the Hotel so informative.
In 2003, I was named the Ambassador of the City of Wichita who works for the Hyatt Regency Hotel as a Shuttle Driver, and I was given a key to the city of Wichita by the Mayor. I also received the Golden Key Award at the Hyatt Hotel for exceptional work five times in the almost six years I worked there.
Why am I telling you this? Here goes the lecture. I am 73 years old, I am the grandfather of 10 wonderful grandchildren, and have been happily married for 44 years to the same woman. I will not stoop to being a 'celebrity chaser', looking for autographs or things like that. Pictures, you ask. I have enough to fill a couple of photograph books, and I consider several of these celebrities to be friends and not asking for autographs is part of that friendship.
I have never been known to tell a lie about anything. I won't do it here on these forums. I am above all that. If a person doesn't take me at my word, then that is their problem.
What I said about the new Star Wars project, has long been broadcast to the public. Everyone knows that Carrie Fisher is on a strict diet, and guided weight loss program to lose over 60 pounds, as is Mark Hamill, although I don't think he is expected to lose that much, I think it is more of a few pounds and then a good tone-up. Harrison Ford is in excellent shape because he has a very strong work-out ethic that he maintains even when he was in Wichita.
So for those reasons, stated above, you can take it for what it is, or just ignore anything I said or will say in the future. You are among those who have made me out to be some sort of idiot here on these forums, and I just let it fall off me like the menial trash that it is. I have respect for all of those here on the Disney UD forums, but I will not ever be called a liar, or a story-teller. I save the stories for my grandkids.
I am sorry it has come down to this. So like it or lump, I don't really care. I have had a very fulfilling life and have had some very rewarding jobs. I have shared most of this before back in the late 90's when I first joined these forums.
