Hmm.. I guess you're right. These are what I was thinking of. Not exactly the same, but I think this version of Merida is much nicer than these...Sotiris wrote:Not that I know of.Patrick wrote:Rapunzel has a few hybrid incarnations like that as well, doesn't she?
I figured you were talking about those ones.Patrick wrote:These are what I was thinking of. Not exactly the same, but I think this version of Merida is much nicer than these.
Two words- Disney FeministsDC Fan wrote:The question that I will always have.
Was it really necessary for Disney to made Merida a Disney princess?
So I figure Merida will be among the princess rotations?Cinderella and Rapunzel will often be featured inside, each in separate chambers with “a friend.” The other princesses greeting with them could be Snow White, Jasmine, or other familiar faces. But guests won’t find Ariel or Belle here, as they have their own permanent meet-and-greet locations elsewhere in New Fantasyland.
Agree so much !thedisneyspirit wrote:Adding Merida to the Princess line was by far one of Disney's worst mistakes ever created. She's fine as a stand-alone Pixar character, but now she's a f*cking role model for litle girls to follow? Not to mention how her movie is all against the "Princess" image created by Disney, and how she's pretty whiny and bratty and spoiled, what a great role model.![]()
Nope ! Princess Buzz and Woody ! In beautiful glittery dresses !thedisneyspirit wrote: What's next? Woody will be added to Mickey and the Gang? Dug will visit Pooh's world?
She totally was! A good role model exercises good manners. Feminists and mothers of little girls seem to ignore the fact Merida treated her mother terribly because of her talents and being headstrong. I'd be concerned if they think Veruca Salt is also a great role model.thelittleursula wrote:Agree so much !thedisneyspirit wrote:Adding Merida to the Princess line was by far one of Disney's worst mistakes ever created. Not to mention she was terrible to her mom.
Why do Princess Buzz when you can just make a Mrs. Nesbitt doll?thelittleursula wrote:Nope ! Princess Buzz and Woody ! In beautiful glittery dresses !thedisneyspirit wrote: What's next? Woody will be added to Mickey and the Gang? Dug will visit Pooh's world?
I thought the movie was about her learning that (and Elinor learning to understand her daughter in return)?Sky Syndrome wrote:Merida just doesn't seem to get it that there are times to act like a proper lady
Elinor dropped princess etiquette reminders everywhere and Merida shrugged them off as though they didn't apply to her. Spoiler: There was never a compromise by the end of the film that Merida would humor her mother by showing the rules of etiquette she was taught some of the time (to reassure the commoners she isn't some flighty girl who can't handle royal responsibilities) if her mother would stop trying to make life decisions for her.Disney's Divinity wrote:I thought the movie was about her learning that (and Elinor learning to understand her daughter in return)?Sky Syndrome wrote:Merida just doesn't seem to get it that there are times to act like a proper lady
But Snow White, Cinderella, and Aurora had desires for themselves, and Snow White and Cinderella thought that if they, themselves, wished or believed, it would bring them their desires. Also Cinderella did stand up and say something to her stepmother: "Why not? I'm still a member of the family. And it says, by royal command, every eligible maiden is to attend."Disney's Divinity wrote:Still, I'd be more happy if my daughter was like Merida than, say, Snow White, Cinderella, or Aurora, who are basically doormats with no self-motivated desires, thoughts, or ambition, but who have "good manners." If anything, I would find it unappealing if Merida didn't rebel against her mother--because she'd be just like SW and Cinderella, who never say or do anything to the Queen or the Stepmother, who only cause them harm. The only difference between the Queen/Stepmother and Triton/Elinor is the intent; the behavior is still awful, and I don't see it as a bad quality when a child argues against it. In fact, I think it shows real character to stand up to negative authority.
I don't consider that "standing up" for herself when she was still leaving the final decision in the Stepmother's hands. And, in the end, if the Fairy Godmother had not appeared, Cinderella would not have went to the ball. Also Cinderella did stand up and say something to her stepmother: "Why not? I'm still a member of the family. And it says, by royal command, every eligible maiden is to attend."
It was the best way Cinderella could stand up for herself to her stepmother. She was firm not angry. Cinderella didn't want to push her stepmother far enough she gets thrown out and has a hard dangerous life on the streets.Disney's Divinity wrote:I don't consider that "standing up" for herself when she was still leaving the final decision in the Stepmother's hands. Also Cinderella did stand up and say something to her stepmother: "Why not?
