Cinderella (Live-Action)
Re: New Cinderella Adaptation by Disney
That makes a lot more sense than releasing it at the end of 2014 as originally planned since Disney would essentially have two competing Cinderellas at the box office (this and Into the Woods). Hopefully this does as well as I don't expect the budget to be as enormous as Alice in Wonderland's, John Carter's, or Oz: The Great and Powerful's.

I actually wouldn't say those are really comparable. Obviously we don't know how the Fairy Godmother will be treated in this version of Cinderella, but I'm betting it won't be a deranged, lovesick baker, nor a stoic, tender wife.PatrickvD wrote:I don't know, this is still typecasting to me. She's done the loving, caring, sweet woman act before in Sweeney Todd and The King's Speech. I expect no surprises out of her performance to be honest.PeterPanfan wrote:I'm excited about HBC's casting... it will be interesting to see her in this role, instead of her recent stream of type-casting.
Unrelated, I'm hoping this is more than just a live-action re-enactment of the animated version. I'm assuming it will be darker a la Alice (though hopefully a thousand times better)... I'm curious to see the direction.

Well I still think it could be awkward, do you not think ? He lived with her for a few years, and their relationship sped up the decline of his marriage. And I love Helena, I'm not hating on her! I just wonder if it was Disney that cast her, or he did.PatrickvD wrote:Maybe they're adults and have no resentment toward each other? And I still think it might be a little awkward Helena being in a Branagh movie....

Yea I was worried about the competing Cinderella's too!
I hope it is. Lol. Well, at least 2/3rds like that. We already know this film will go in a different, darker direction though because it involves an evil plot to get the prince married and it originally had Mark Romanek wanting to direct a dark version of it, it was just too dark for Disney.PeterPanfan wrote:Unrelated, I'm hoping this is more than just a live-action re-enactment of the animated version.

Haven't commented yet, but love the casting choice of HBC as the Fairy Godmother!

Listening to most often lately:
Taylor Swift ~ ~ "The Fate of Ophelia"
Taylor Swift ~ "Eldest Daughter"
Taylor Swift ~ "CANCELLED!"
Re: New Cinderella Adaptation by Disney
Looks like Cinderella's mother will be in this version!

Re: New Cinderella Adaptation by Disney
Okay, first, Stellan Skarsgard is supposed to be the Grand Duke, which already is great in menaing there will be a Grand Duke which means this will be so close to the film by having that character, but next...
I can't believe no one posted this!: At D23 Kenneth Branagh said this Cinderella would be really faithful to the original Disney classic! And said a lot about the main characters! And showed a screen test of the star in a blue ballgown! And the date is now set for March 2015! Here's the link:
Kenneth Branagh's Revelations for Cinderella at D23

I AM SO SO SO SO SO EXCITED for this now!!! As close to the Disney animated version as possible?! Aaaahhhhhh!!!!! My favorite film becoming a live-action film!!!!!
So here's two things: First, how is this supposed to be very faithful to the original classic with the whole "evil marriage arrangement" for the prince? And second, how can I tell Kenneth Branagh that Cinderella's dress isn't supposed to be blue but silver?
Seriously, anyone have any idea how I can write to Kenneth Branagh?

Re: New Cinderella Adaptation by Disney
I don't know- that picture looks way too similar to that Scarlett Johansson as Cinderella pic that was popular years ago in the Disney series by Anne Lebiovitz. Is it the same picture?
I hope this is very similar to the animated Cinderella- at least in plot points. I wouldn't mind if there were more elements for a more adult audience to enjoy in it.
But they shouldn't "epic-fy" it by adding wars or making Cinderella a "badass"- like they did with Snow White and the Huntsman.

I think I'm looking more forward to Disney Duster's inevitable complaints about the movie than the movie itself

Re: New Cinderella Adaptation by Disney
Aww don't be mean to poor old Duster ! The discussion will be intense though for sure.
I too hope they don't 'epic-fy' Cinderella, as it totally isn't that. It would be more of a shock though if they did as 'Snow White & The Huntsman' did, as Disney are doing this live - action version, whereas the Snow live action was Universal. They didn't have the history associated with the the picture that Disney does, obviously.

Sounds like a combination of the first movie and the third. O_oDisney Duster wrote:So here's two things: First, how is this supposed to be very faithful to the original classic with the whole "evil marriage arrangement" for the prince?

Re: New Cinderella Adaptation by Disney
Oh my gosh, do you think they would do that ? Combine elements from the two ?
Mind you, the enchanted pumpkin ride from the third would be amazing to see in live action ... I don't know where it could fit in though. Maybe showing how the carriage transformed back with Cindy inside it?

Re: New Cinderella Adaptation by Disney
No one can tell me how to contact Kenneth Branagh?
Anyways, that picture may be from the Annie Leibovitz Disney Dream portraits but it has a different, more epic background AND look carefully at her left arm, it's not holding her dress like in the Disney Dreams version, and her dress folds are different, so it's either one of the many shots Annie Leibovitz took or it's a different model (the star of this movie, Lily James?!). And it's not the Diamond Edition logo but a new (very classy!) logo:

So they can make it epic without tampering with the story so much like Snow White and the Huntsman. Atlanticaunderthesea, that's a great idea for how to make Cinderella's story more epic, what an escape from the castle that would be!
I don't think I will have too many complaints about this version because of how faithful it sounds and how promising the new stuff sounds, but I do already have the complaint that her gown should be silver!

I think they'll probably save the plot of 'A Twist in Time'/'Twice Charmed' for a sequel. I think it had some really wonderful ideas, but it could still be improved.

Re: New Cinderella Adaptation by Disney
Okay everyone, I have a dilemma. One of the most important aspects of Cinderella is the beautiful dress that makes Cinderella feel special and lifted from her lowly life. The D23 convention revealed that the director of this, Kenneth Branagh, is going to try to make this film as much like the Disney animated version as he can. But in the promo image for the film, Cinderella is in a blue dress, and in the screen test of the actress for Cinderella, Lily James, she is also wearing a blue dress. So it appears he thinks Disney's animated dress is blue.
As hardcore Disney fans should know, her dress is actually silver:

It just sometimes looks blue, like when Cinderella dances with the princes in the dark or is outside with the prince on the terrace:

So I wanted to write to him a letter saying that if he wanted to make his film like the Disney animated version, the dress should be silver, not blue. And I would print out a few pictures with the letter to show him. If he ignores it because he's worried I could sue him over using that information to determine the color of the dress, no harm done, except one problem: if he was going to make the dress silver before, what if my letter makes him have to change it to a different color to avoid a lawsuit? Would that happen?
The other thing I thought that might prevent this is that if he does choose to make the dress a color other than silver, could he then be afraid I might sue him because he deliberately chose a different color based on my letter to him?
So that's my predicament. I'm worried that simply by saying the dress is silver in the film, he could be afraid of me suing and change it to a different color. So, any help, thoughts, advice, or knowledge on this situation, dear fellow forumers and friends?

Re: New Cinderella Adaptation by Disney
I don't know much about the U.S. legal system, but I doubt a fan can sue a director for an aesthetic decision made on a film, especially one in which the fan holds no legal ownership over any part of the film, be it the design of the dress, the color in question, or the actual 35mm negatives.
Even if you send something to Branagh himself, the most Disney will likely do is send a terse, form-letter response from their legal department that simply states they do not accept or review any unsolicited creative suggestions, with the unsolicited creative suggestion being your request to make the dress silver (regardless if it's historically right or not, and I'm sure that's still debatable). Thus, they'll have the legal backing to show that - were you to sue them for using silver - any decision they did make was within their own rights, and not based on anything you've sent.
