I Love The 90s (I do!)

I knew the series was coming, but I kept forgetting to check and see when it would come on. I'm obsessed with the 90s (I grew up in them!) and couldn't wait for it. Well, I just realized I missed the first three years, and that '93 was half-way over. I turned it on, and after 2 minutes, I'm in love with the series.

Does anyone know if they will be available on DVD once it's over? I hope so.

Again, I'm baffled at why minor celebrities reminiscing about pop culture fads is so watchable and addictive, but it is. And this is stuff that's just ten years old, too. It's fresher in the mind. Unnecessarily coarse sometimes, but highly watchable, nonetheless. Could use more Disney, though I suspect Toy Story may be covered in one of tonight's installments and The Lion King should be too.

Yeah, I agree with just about everything you said. All of the big Disney movies of the 90s need at least a mention. And the celebrities are often too brash and condescending. Yet I still LOVE it, for some reason.

Very cool! They had some programs there that I wouldn't have minded doing myself. Are you having fun? The only camps I went to were Space Camp (which I loved) and Golf Camp (which I was forced into and hated). Oh, and college orientation sure felt like camp.

These series bring back all the good old memories growing up in the 80's and 90's I don't remember all these things.
I do recommend VH1 to take them out on DVD.

I absolutely love all of the "I Love The..." shows (70's, 80's, 80's Strikes Back, and 90's). It's so much fun going through nostalgia and pop culture in such a hilarious tongue-in-cheek way. Of course I'd love to see Disney movies on the show, but I think the reason we don't see them is because Disney probably won't let VH1 show clips from their films. When VH1 did a Top 100 Pop Culture Icons special, the Mickey Mouse segment showed absolutely no film footage, just pics of merchandise. Speaking of film clips, I love how all of VH1's specials ("I Love The...", Best Week Ever, etc.) all show film clips in their original aspect ratios. Too bad other channels don't follow suit.

Yup - I'm keeping up on it very faithfully this week!

So far it's been pretty fun. There's a lack of nostalgia with the 90's series, though, 'cause it was only five years ago. Seeing some of the stars of these films/tv series/songs is kinda surreal - and a bit pathetic, in a way. I think my favorite "commentator" has to be Michael Ian Black - he's self-deprecating, he has incredibly dry, sarcastic humor, he's Jewish... what's not to like? Check out this letter he wrote to TIME Magazine -

In James Poniewozik's review of VH1's show I Love the '70s [TELEVISION, Aug. 18], he mentioned me and the show Ed, characterizing me as a "B-list celeb." I strongly resent this statement. Anyone who has seen my work on television knows I am on the C list.

- hehe! Anyhoo, thus far it's been pretty fun, as I said before. A lot of the music made me think, "THAT'S when that was popular?" some of the fads were fun to see (slap bracelets and pre-bondage... LOL!), and the films have been good picks. I was surprised to see Free Willy and Babe mentioned, yet no Disney animated features. Not even a teeny mention of Lion King - you'd think that juggernaut would get some props, at least.

There hasn't been any mention of DVD releases for any of the series yet. I'm with you, though - I'd certainly be a little VH1 ho if they ever released the I Love's to DVD. I think my fave is 80's Strike Back, so I'd especially love to see that on disc.

Hmm, I'm not sure. What was that one movie that had Saddam Hussein laying out by the pool and a bomb dropped in his lap. I remember seeing the trailer all the time, but that's all I remember from it.

And "Weird Al" had a song about Loraina and Tonya Harding and a few other incidents called Headline News (as I'm sure you know, since you have the DVD with the music video on it). It was a pretty big hit for him.

I haven't been watching them in order, and still haven't seen all of the series, but I have now seen '91 and '92, and may have to retract my emphatic love for I Love The '90s in the original post. Well, maybe not retract, but I am PO'd. I don't mean to harp here, but I simply can't understand why they chose to not so much as mention Amy Grant. In those two years, she had two of the best selling albums (in fact, I believe they were 2 of the top 3- beaten only by The Bodyguard Soundtrack) and countless #1 and top 10 songs and videos. "Baby Baby" was #1 week after week after week! She and Whitney Houston dominated those two years, and she didn't get so much as a mention- ridiculous. '94, '97, and '98 were all big years for her music (and she made lots of news in '98) as well- and still no mention. At least they played a snippet of "Baby Baby" in '98, but said nothing about it.

Ok, I had to get that off my chest before I could properly assess the show any more. Rant over, thank you for your time.
