I hope not, but who knows? A lot can change in 8 years. Just think back to how differnat things were 8 years ago? In 2003, DVD was still king and 2 disc DVD's were still all the rage. So, things do seem to change. Personally, I'm going to hold on to both my 2004 DVD AND this new Blu-ray untill one or both die on me.Barbossa wrote:I'm reading Luke's review and this caught my eye in the "What's Missing?" section:So, could this be the last time we get to see the movie on some physical home media format? I really, really hope the industry doesn't go into full-on streaming or downloadThe missed opportunities are all the more disappointing because there is no chance of a better edition coming anytime soon. Disney will only release a title as popular as this an event. It will probably be another eight years until a new set, assuming that Disney is still selling movies on disc then..
I ended up picking up the Blu-ray and I'm happy about some stuff, but more disapointed about other things. The Virtual Vault thing is crap, pure and simple. Even if I cared to set my Blu-ray player up to the net (I'm not intrested), the VV never works anyway! My feeling is, it's a s good as not even being there.jpanimation wrote:Oh wow, I haven't had the time to look at all the bonus features yet but seriously Disney, you didn't even include the original trailers? Dropping original music videos, trailers, publicity galleries, and throwing what little bonus features you did have on that nightmare of an OS you call Virtual Vault is just pathetic (speaking of Virtual Vault, I'm having the same problem starting it up as Luke did and all I'm getting is a black screen - so without Virtual Vault running properly, the extras are even more pathetic). Not to mention they put an important supplement like the original September 1992 story outline exclusively on the iPad app (what about people who don't have any idevices?), they have the missing clouds in the actual feature presentation and it begins to seem like they didn't give it their all, did they?
Having watched both "Pride of The Lion King" and "The Lion King: A Memoir - Don Hahn", I felt like they didn't even begin to touch on certain things (many voice actors were not even mentioned) and that WAY too much time was spent talking about the Broadway show. Color me disappointed and worried what they'll cut on Lilo & Stitch's Blu-ray release (I never got the Special Edition DVD). I'm definitely going to be holding onto my Aladdin Platinum Edition DVD, as it has wonderful supplements and I have a feeling that none of them will make it (atleast, not without the Virtual Vault monstrosity).
Still, the menu is nicely organized, attractively designed and quick loading.
To that point, I'm holding on to my 2004 DVD's AND this new Blu-ray for my fuller and more compleate collection. I'm getting the feeling that would be the case with any DAC I could ever by that I had on DVD and am really seeing the majority of them as add on to what I ahve already rather then replacments, the way I'm sure some Bly-ray geeks Disney see them.
I also won't buy every DAC on Blu-ray. Case in point, that "Fox and the Hound" release was horrid. It lacked in the extras department (which the DVD actually was better in) and putting the DTV film on the same disc actually offended me. I'm 100% not buying old DTV films on Blu-ray. Those films are lucky I even own them on DVD!
Anyway, viewing the new documentaries found on TLK Blu-ray as additions to what is on the 2004 DVD, I enjoyed them. And I enjoy having the film on Blu-ray disc. But my top reason for that isn't the HD suprise, suprise, but rather my thought is one day, me and my wife will start having kids. When we do, I don't think I want them touching my old DVD's, so I'll feel much safer if they handle the Blu-rays instead!
