The Lion King trilogy will be released together in one package on Oct 4, the same date the lone Lion King is released on bluray.
I wish 1 1/2 and 2 were released separate. Not a fan of the drum packaging, and would rather have normal Blu-ray cases for each film. Hopefully the discs are not stacked on top of each other.

I agree! I'd gladly add the sequel to my collection, but only if I can get it in a regular Blu-ray case (even if it is paired with 1 1/2, that's fine). I'm not a fan of the special packaging; I even opted to get Toy Story 1, 2, and 3 separately because I didn't like the "toy box."
I'm trying to put together a schedule for the Animated Classics. Below is what I gather from searching the forum. Please correct me and add to what is missing if you can. From what I see, we will have 7 titles released for their first time on BD in 2011. Alice, Bambi, & Tangled earlier this year. Anybody think Disney will release that many or even more in 2012?
2011
8/9 - The Fox & The Hound
9/20 - Dumbo
10/4 - The Lion King
?/? - Winnie The Pooh
2012
Spring - Lady & The Tramp
?/? - Pocahontas
What is supposed to be the other Diamond edition besides Lady?
Next year major diamond title isn't confirmed. If it follows platinum line then it should be Cinderella, but I hear it is getting 3D treatment so could be pushed back. Hopefully it is Aladdin !

Is that for real? Gah! Though it will be cool to see the glitter/magic by the Fairy Godmother in 3D haha.
January 6, 2009 - Met Stephen Schwartz
September 4, 2009 - Met Tom Hulce
September 18, 2009 - Met Miley Cyrus
August 3, 2011 - Met John Musker
It's one thing to 3D-fy films with the original filmmakers' consent and involvement (like with The Lion King, Beauty & the Beast, The Nightmare Before Christmas) but another when that is not available for whatever reason.

Where are you hearing that "Cinderella" is getting the 3D treatment?

This is Disney ! They don't care about consent whether the persons are dead or alive.

I bought the "Toy Story" 1, 2 & 3 box set thinking it had each disc in it's own BR case. When I opened it to find the discs upright in a foam block, I gave it away to a friend & bought them separately.
Also, what is releasing Blu-Ray/DVD combo sets in both BR cases & DVD cases all about? I think if a Blu-Ray disc is involved, it should be in a BR case. And for the record, I am not a fan of the joining of BR & DVD into one disc either.
We are all brothers & sisters on this planet earth. We must plant the seeds of love today for our children's tomorrow.

I agree the Toy Story box was pretty bad last year. I'm really glad I got the separate releases. I don't mind DVDs being included with Blu-rays, because I've found them to be very useful on more than one occasion. I wouldn't want a Blu-ray/DVD combo disc like the HD DVD/DVD combos. Also they can keep the Digital Copy discs. I never use them, and really all you need is a code. Its a waste of a disc in my opinion, even if you use them.
Also I agree with the DVD cases. They need to go if a Blu-ray is involved. I've noticed a lot of stores locally are mainly stocking the Blu-ray case version when they do this. Wal-Mart is about the only store I still see DVD case releases for the Blu-ray/DVD combo packs.
