Michele Bachmann pledges to ban pornography and gay marriage

Post by Goliath »

Bachmann Signs Pledge for Ban on Porn and Same-Sex Marriage

Michele Bachmann became the first presidential candidate to sign a pledge, vowing to support a constitutional amendment that defines marriage between a man and a woman, and which calls for a ban on all pornography.

“The Marriage Vow – A Declaration of Dependence upon Marriage and Family,” sponsored by the Family Leader, an Iowa-based conservative organization, equates same-sex marriage with bigamy and polygamy and calls on candidates to promise to be faithful to their spouses.

The two-page pledge includes a “Declaration of Dependence on Marriage and Family” that blames several factors for the deterioration of traditional marriage including “quickie divorce” and unmarried couples living together. The pledge also describes homosexuality as a choice and not genetic. [...]

By signing the pledge she supports the idea that homosexuality is a choice, and that being gay is a health risk.

One could laugh at it, but the fact of the matter is, she *is* an official contender for the presidency of the United States! She gets taken seriously not only by the news media (as if that wasn't bad enough), but also by political analysts and, most important, by the public at large. How could it have come so far that a broad like her is now polling second amongst Republicans as their nominee? 30 years ago, she would've been laughed off the stage with her kooky ideas.

Mind you, Bachmann is not the only one signing this 'pledge'. Others have done so as well. Let me ask you one thing: in what other country do politicians have to sign purity statements, pledges that they stand for puritanical, conservative, bigoted 'values' promoted by extreme religious fundamentalists? Saudi-Arabia? Afghanistan? I mean, 'banning porn' is what they do in Iran. No kidding. This is scary stuff.

I hate the Democrats because they're right-wing corporatists who do squat for regular working people, but I will say this: they're the only ones standing against the christian Taliban.

And this is a bad thing? I'd hope at least some in the latter could at least agree with the former. I refuse to believe everyone who is gay is that obsessed with sex like they seem to portray 9 out of 10 times.

It should be noted, for the sake of it, I'm not really a Bachmann fan and while I may mostly agree with her this one time, don't honestly feel she has a snow balls chance in you know where of making any of it happen. So, I think folks who like porn (you disgusting people you) and gays can relax on this one. It's not realistic that something like this would even pass in the current society. If anything, I think that society will be spiraling more out of control in part thanks to these issue then it is already. So again, relax, your plans for chaos are safe.

It's crap like this that makes me convinced she'd never win if she ran. Even if people don't like porn, calling homosexality a "health risk" when 53% of the population supports marriage for them is not a smart way to sway voters.* Not to mention offending unmarried couples, divored people or any majority of 21st century society.

I'm also wondering how to you ban porn altogether? Do you just ban the production of it in the country or can you actually block computers from viewing it? And how would that old up in court? And where is the line drawn between porn and nudity in mainstream films/TV?

*This article also shows that not only a majority of Republican insiders think they should "avoid the issue", but only 30% saying the "party should oppose it".

"Another GOP insider who said the party should avoid the issue explained, 'We haven't come to a consensus on this issue but the country is changing so rapidly that it will [be] a non issue in a few years. A confrontation now would just delay the inevitable.'":

I think we prefer it to be called "ghaos," but thanks, I'll let the leadership know.

And People say the War on Drugs doesn't work....so how in the Sam Hill will this work....I don't like porn (one of the big reasons is it belittles women and sadly they make more money at a strip club probably than a waitress at Denny's) and for anyone that wants to look...I tell them get an actual book....don't stream it online or anything because there's a computer virus just waiting to attack your computer...why do you think of the the viruses is named a Trojan Virus

But it sounds stupid........ The War on Porn....sounds like either a porn film or Seth Rogan leading the fight to keep Porn alive in a movie :P

And here I thought you would be the first to preach that stereotype.

But, to be honest, I wouldn’t support her on either part. Although I don’t support porn addiction ( ), sex is a natural reality and what people do in the privacy of their own lives is not the state’s business.

Besides, blaming porn for divorce is such an old scapegoat. It's about as tired as "video games cause the outrageous violence in America" (um...they have game systems everywhere else that the violence isn't extreme... ). Divorce happens because marriage is miserable for most people 6 out of 10 times, at least after the first 10 years or so. Also, tbh, in a sociology class I had a few years ago on Marriage and the Family, we examined statistics on divorce rates and found that the often-used 50% divorce rate is grossly over exaggerated.

Yes, I think we must meet back with the mothership and regroup. These heterosexuals are more persistant than we expected...

I seriously doubt naming the viruses "Trojans" had anything to do with condoms or anything even remotely sexual. :p The term came about because those particular viruses get into computer systems by looking like harmless programs but are actually something sinister in disguise. You know, like the whole Trojan horse story.

To get back OT, I think people make way too big a deal about porn and homosexuality. Sex is hard-wired into human beings, and all healthy people need outlets and ways to express and experience it. Repressing it is what causes problems. And besides, what consenting adults do in the privacy of their own homes is nobody's business; as long as no one's rights are being violated I don't see what the issue is.

Trying to ban any of this is idiotic. It would cause more harm than it would supposedly fix.

Michelle Bachmann aka the leader of the war on Porn and other stuff that makes no sense wrote:
"Slavery had a disastrous impact on African-American families, yet sadly a child born into slavery in 1860 was more likely to be raised by his mother and father in a two-parent household than was an African-American baby born after the election of the USA's first African-American President."

Given that families were broken up regularly for sales during slavery and that rape by masters was pretty common, this could not be more offensive.

Well, I don't know about you, but I wouldn't want my government to dictate what I could or couldn't publish/broadcast or what I could or couldn't watch, based on arbitrary senses of "good taste". I mean, that's just censorship, pure and simple. When the government can outlaw porn, what's the next step? Outlaw suggestive music videos? Ban music with suggestive lyrics? Get 'Lay, Lady, Lay' off the oldies station? And after that? Ban everything that doesn't agree with the government's policies?

I'm surprised you, of all people, who has always been vocal about goverment having to stay out of our lives, are in agreement with this.

Don't say that out too loud. I think if you told Americans 30 years ago how much power the office of the president would have garnered unconstitutionally by the year 2011, they would've laughed in your face. People like Bachmann and Palin would have been laughed off the stage. But then Ronald Reagan proved you didn't have to have any intelligence, knowledge or skills to become president and things got worse and worse...
milojthatch wrote:So, I think folks who like porn (you disgusting people you)
On behalf of 95% of all men: thank you. I think watching porn is far less disgusting than your frequent gay-bashing, but okay...
milojthatch wrote:and gays can relax on this one. It's not realistic that something like this would even pass in the current society.
I'm not so sure of that. Just look at how succesfully the woman-haters in the Republican Party have gone after Planned Parenthood and how hard they're pushing for restrictions on abortions in the southern states. Gay marriage got overthrown by the polygamists of the Mormon church in California. After cracking down on the quality broadcasting of PBS, it seems they're now setting their eyes on porn.

Fun fact I read somewhere: most porn is ordered in 'red states'. :D

To quote Super Aurora: "LOL wat?!" I thought it was because of climate change, over-consumption, warmongering, ever increasing income disparities, the destruction of the middle class, the accumulation of wealth by the top 1% at the expense of the bottom 90%, the drying up of natural resources etc. But I guess I was wrong and it's porn making the world go to hell.

Michele Bachmann is a (successful) troll, as in she successfully trolled America into thinking she's a viable candidate for presidency. Not yet as amusing as Caribou BarbieTM, though. She's just mad that her husband won't have sex with her because he's a repressed “barbarian.”

Blah, blah, Obama, blah, blah, free market, blah, blah, taxcuts taxcuts, blah blah, Jesus, blah, blah Jesus, Jesus, blah blah. This woman is just another giant floating head full of hot air, who will explode as soon as the maximum level of craziness is achieved.

She's also a hypocrite: 1) Her damn farm she won't shut the hell up about wouldn't even be able to survive in the free market she so desperately pushes. And 2) it seems that she doesn't mind socialism as much as she's letting on, judging by the 250,000$ she got from the government over eleven years for her damn farm and the foster <strike>prisoners</strike> kids (where are they?); the nickname "Welfare Queen" is appropriate indeed. On top of that, she hasn't done JACK for her state. All she does is bitch, bitch, bitch, Jesus, God, founding fathers, bitch, bitch, bitch, Obama hates puppies, I <3 serial killers, bitch, bitch, bitch. Talking smack about president Obama and Libhurrals is ALL this woman does. After all, Barack Hussein(!!!) Obama is just another libherul communist marxist socialist muslim extremistic abortion-loving un-American un-patriotic Anti-Christian Nazi born in Kenya.

What exactly has she done so far- politically? I do know that she supported BP during the Gulf spill... you know, like Jesus would have wanted! And she's a tax lawyer [lolsad], which is exactly the type of person you want to have as president, amirite? More politically toxic than that mormon guy who headed Bain Capitol then shipped all the jobs to China.

TL;DR

Bitch is crazy. Will become president in the year zero, which, quite frankly, is where she belongs.

Porn has belittled men almost as much.

At least the free stuff sort of puts them on equa level.

Meanwhile, I've received more Trojans from faux anti-virus software than porn.

The word faggot bothers me even when used all different like that. I'm not trying to be a sensitive whiner and we're always cool but I wish you'd never use that word. If you can man, if it doesn't bother you to try not to use it.
