Questions about getting a Blu-Ray Player

K been thinking about upgrading to Blu-Ray for a while now, I am one of those that likes to wait to upgrade til I have time to research the various ones out there see what is the best most durable most operator friendly etc. etc.

Now my budget for this is preferably $250or less.

Have found a couple that are highly reccomended.

LG BD570 Network Blu-ray Disc Player

Samsung BD-C5500 1080p Blu-ray Disc Player

But just not sure which one to go with so any help, or experience on what is a good blu ray player to purchase is great. Would prefer something with Wi-Fi so I can stream Netflix movies watch them on my tv. And just want something that's durable so within a few months time or so won't be breaking down having to get a new one.

If you have a Best Buy near you go in and ask to see the Insignia Network Ready Blu-ray players with built-in wi-fi that are less than $120. I have both a LG Network Ready and an Insignia with built-in wi-fi and prefer the Insignia over the LG. It is totally user-friendly, if you have it hooked to the internet, then you will never have to worry about the updates, it will take care of them automatically. Also the Insignia plays all your regular DVD's at near Hi-Def quality, and anything else, DVD-R, DVD-RW, CD-R, CD-RW, Microsoft Programs and comes set up for Neflix, Pandora, and several other on-line programs.

The LG, while it plays all of the same things the Insignia does, I have had to send it in to the factory twice in just over two years because it seems when the upgrade comes down line, it then refuses to play certain standard DVD's and I can't have that. LG is very good about honoring their Warranty and then send you the shipping forms so that it doesn't cost you anything, and the turn around is usually less than five business days. I have NOT had this problem with the Insignia.

I've heard bad things about Samsung players in the past, not sure how their newer ones are.

Personally I would go with a Sony or Panasonic player if you can. They seem to get the best reviews, and are routinely updated to keep up with changes to Blu-ray. You should be able to get a excellent player for way less than $250 now. I've seen some of the Sony BDP-BX57 (Sam's model of the BDP-S570) at Sam's for less than $140 now. It has built in wireless, 3D (if needed), and also does Netflix, Amazon On Demand, etc...

Just FYI Chris, the Samsung you mentioned doesn't have Wi-Fi. IT's the BD-C6500 that does. I was looking at the two you are looking at as well (because only LG & Samsung players have the MLB.TV app) and I ended up picking the Samsung because it was cheaper and everything Samsung I have owned has worked ridiculously well.

I haven't used it all that much to this point (have only had it for a week) but so far, so good.

Got one tonight at BestBuy ended up going with the Sony BDP-3580 got some cash for my birthday today so decided to splurge a bit. Now I only have to find out how get the whole stupid Wi-Fi thing set up and I'll be good to go.
