Unless the DVD has a different video...Jordin Sparks is neither a Disney Channel star nor a tween (she's in her mid-20s, isn't she?).

And, imo, she's a better singer than anyone who's come out of Disney, except Christina Aguilera. I'm sure she didn't have that much control over the rendition they gave her to sing, which I don't really like, tbh. Still, she did more with it than Jump 5 or Miley Cyrus could ever attempt to do.

At the end of the day, the colour-timing of this Diamond release all comes down to 'Restoration' vs 'Intention'.

The film was transferred from CAPS (Computer Files) and as such, one would assumed that since their is no deterioration in the film from this process, it would only require an immediate transfer to the disc. However, Disney are clever in two senses.

Firstly, the 'restoration' branding (which is all it is, branding) can be thrown around to easily. Disney may use this term however they want, and use it to suggest that changes to the film are deemed fit because 'thats how the film originally was', when a more likely reality is that changes can be made because they want to make the film look suitably different from its previous release (B&TB Platinum Edition), in a bid to make it a more convincing purchase. Afterall, if we discard the fact that this release had a Blu-Ray version too, the DVD would look exactly the same.

In doing so, they can convince a market that the film looks brighter and newer because they've 'restored' the film to how it should have been when, in fact, they can blatantly make those changes so the brighter colours are more appealing to the modern audience, and the cleaner animation (in particular scenes) makes the film look more accomplished than it was.

Secondly, we can consider the term 'intention'. The LaserDisc and VHS versions of Beauty and The Beast shouldn't be taken too literally as counterparts for the original intents of the colour-timing, because these are analogue formats with limited fidelities. However, the Platinum Edition on DVD (2002) was the, then, 'apparent', restoration of the film, and so we could ideally believe that that was how Beauty and The Beast should have looked; more muted colours, but more importantly, balanced colours.

However, from an interview that I read a few pages back in this thread, it was believed Disney made the further colour changes because the colours weren't actually correct on the original release - thus what we have seen up until the Diamond Edition has had an incorrect colour timing. Make of this statement what you will, but in my personal opinion, it is obvious that the over-saturation of the colours does not fit into the mood of the film, compared to the more established and 'logical' colours of the Platinum Edition.

These are just some things to consider, but in summary, Disney can make they want of marketing and the majority of the audience will accept it. And that can be fine if they enjoy the film. But it can be frustrating for those who were around during the release, like myself, and know just how muted the colours were even in the theatre. Had Disney of improved the colours, then I'd be more than happy to accept, but in the theatre they looked far more natural, and thats what gets to me.

Did anyone notice that in the DVDizzy.com review of Alice in Wonderland, on page 2, Kelvin states the following:

"The bonus DVD replaces the Disney Parks trailer with one for D23, substitutes Disney Blu-ray for Blu-ray 3D, and adds a spot for Beauty and the Beast: Belle's Magical World - Special Edition DVD."

Unless I am reading that wrong, does that mean there is a trailer for a re-release of Belle's Magical World on the new Alice DVD?

I pretty much agree with everything said, although, I'm not sure why the color debate is being resurrected. Its the interview with Don Hann that you're alluding to that people accuse me of dismissing, when it's the exact opposite and I use what he said all the time in my arguments. As I said before, it made any kind of debate pointless. He said what was shown in theaters was wrong and that even some of the CAPS files needed to be adjusted because they weren't what they had in their heads. So he could in turn make Beast green and you'd have no argument against it because that could very well be what they always intend. Forget original theatrical colors, CAPS colors or original artwork, that stuff doesn't matter because that doesn't necessarily represent their intent, which is the goal of this release. Unless you can see in their heads, you have no argument against the colors.

To me, this whole intent thing just opens the gates for marketing to take whatever artistic liberties they want. It was always much easier when they strived to produce something as close to the original theatrical presentations as possible. One thing that no one can argue is they messed up the transition after "something there" to be the Special Edition transition.

I have the HD trailer on my computer. Would anyone like me to upload it to YouTube?

Yes, please!! :)

How come they are re-releasing Belle's Magical World and not The Enchanted Christmas? I guess, they are going to wait until next Christmas to release it?

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, I bet they'll wait until Christmas (if we're going to get it, that is). I wonder if The Enchanted Christmas is "worthy" enough to get a Blu-ray release in the US? If it does, I would consider getting it, but I think I'll pass on Belle's Magical World in any form.

Ok, so I just got my diamond edition in the mail today. I haven't checked out the blu rays, but I did look at the DVD that came with it.

I AM OUTRAGED!!!

Ok, I kinda am, but there have been a few good things about this edition. Why am I outraged?

When one selects the "theatrical" version, the last shot of the objects is the one from the "special edition"! With lumiere and the featherduster closing the doors! WHY?????!!!!! We lost one of the original shots!!!

There are other things I am very happy about. For example, we recovered the "silver screen partners" thing on the opening after "walt disney presents".

I am also very happy with the aspect ratio...not as good as 1.66:1 but we still get much more than we did in the platinum!

Something else I am happy about is that they took away those stupid sound effects they had added to the shot of the beast howling when Belle leaves. THey were supposed to explain why the castle is a mess again afterwards...like the beast destroyed it all again, and it wasnt in the original film, and its not in the diamond edition.

Overall pretty happy, but why didnt they keep the final shot of "something there" like in the platinum!?!?!?

^You fell for it......... :P

seriously, you're about the millionth person to mention it. I know you're relatively new as well.

It's been agreed that they never said "Theatrical Cut" and that TV means nothing more than length.

oddly, a moment in the true original version is now exclusive to the SE.

2005 is new?

But, yeah, I guess this is the only problem with adding in deleted scenes to films.

Well, Im not new, but I cant go thru 45 pages of this topic to see if someone else mentioned just ONE miniscule shot.

Sad thing is, if that little shot wasnt changed, it WOULD be the theatrical cut (except the colors and yadda yadda). A real shame....the "wanna wanna stay in the tower" is back, and the breaking china noises are gone, the SIlver Screen Partners are back....but that little shot which was on the PE is gone. DAMMIT!

Not quite correct... don't forget Belle's new (physically impossible) reflection during Beauty and the Beast.

Small detailes like this is a little annoying. Why can't a billion dollar company get small things like this right? And regarding that reflection of Belle: What was the point in adding it? Especially when they did in in such a sloppy way?

I would like to add that the Blu-ray-release is a fantastic release though, with amazing colors and amazing picture (although I do not quite "agree" on the colors), and the bonus material is to die for.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that stupid reflection. WHAT IS THE POINT?? And the worst part is, they actually PAID someone to do that...they wasted money to damage one of their best films....my lord...

I can't believe that this, along with other changes is on both the Special and Theatrical versions. IF YOU'RE GOING TO CALL A VERSION "THEATRICAL", IT SHOULDN'T HAVE LEFTOVERS FROM THE SPECIAL EDITION. ... well, I wouldn't be surprised if Disney made more changes to "The Lion King" Blu-ray... as long as there's the option without the Big-Lipped-Alligator-moment song.

FOUND ANOTHER DIFFERENCE IN THE DIAMOND EDITION:

When belle comes home from the castle, and she says to Maurice "he let me go:, they have added a dark shadow to the bottom of her head (area where the hair meets the ponytail)

Pointless tampering, and doesnt look good...why bother???

to make it look newer? I dont bother looking at it. I pay too much attention to the music to look at the reflections of characters.
