That stupid foreign film is a brilliant piece of art. I am actually glad it was nominated over Tangled, only for the reason that it will bring more people to see it when it comes out on dvd/blu in the states. Tangled doesn't need the publicity nor did it have a shot in Hell at winning against TS3 anyway. Tangled got a nomination for it's only chance to win, best song, so it still may walk away with an Oscar and Illusionist will not.DisneyJedi wrote:Words cannot describe how mad I was that Tangled got snubbed for some stupid foreign film.
It's the same thing as last year for the beautiful "Secret of Kells"...had that film not been nominated, it probably would not have even seen distribution in the U.S. on video. You should really try to be a little more sophisticated than that.
I didn't even think of this.. Another upset.PheR wrote:And music!! Daft Punk's score was amazing and so unique!!Prince Edward wrote:But what about TRON: Legacy?! It should have been nominated in all those categories as well. It's horrible that it was not nominated for visual effects!

I totally forgot about that! Off course Daft Punks score should have been nominated.Patrick wrote:I didn't even think of this.. Another upset.PheR wrote: And music!! Daft Punk's score was amazing and so unique!!Tron was visually stunning despite any plot holes.
Favorite Disney-movies: Snow White, Cinderella, Alice in Wonderland, Sleeping Beauty, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Hercules, Mulan, Tarzan, Tangled, Frozen, Pirates, Enchanted, Prince of Persia, Tron, Oz The Great and Powerful
In all honesty, when I saw the nominations I knew that fans would get their shorts in a know so hard the only way to untie them is with the jaws of life.
I feel that the ONLY reason Tangled didn't get nominated was because of a technicality. There wasn't enough animated films release to warrant the five nominee category. Had it been otherwise, Tangled would have easily been nominated.
But here's what is bothering me. The behavior in this thread has been very childish...and I go on A LOT of forums to know. So what if Tangled didn't get nominated? It is not the end of the world. The Academy doesn't hate Disney, so stop with all the conspiracy.
Also, stop the Pixar hate. You know, it is AMAZING how fans are quick to turn on them whenever Award season comes. When the movie is released...
OOOOH MY GOD THIS IS THE GREATEST MOVIE I HAVE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE!
Then the awards come...
PIXAR SHOULD DIE AT THE STAKE FOR BEING A GLORY HOG AND FOR DESTROYING DISNEY!!!11!11!1
Look, I am a big Disney fan as well, and I too wish that they get their day in the spotlight. But, I am not going to get upset about it because I learned that winning or losing an award doesn't affect the legacy of the film. The only thing that affects it is the marketing campaign. You know...
BRING HOME THE ACADEMY AWARD NOMINATED CLASSIC ON BLU-RAY AND DVD!
Many Disney films don't have awards under their belt, same with a lot of classic movies. And yet, that doesn't change the fact that the movies are still beloved, are still popular and ARE STILL BEING WATCHED TO THIS DAY.
Both E.T. and Ghandi were nominated for best picture, and Ghandi won. Care to guess which movie is still being referenced, fondly remembered, and still being watched?
Another thing... I am STUNNED how fans want the Academy to give out awards for the sake of it, then condemn them when they do it with other categories.
"Oh, they only gave him the award because he is dying"
"Oh, they only gave him the award because the Academy snubbed him in the past"
"They felt bad because they hadn't given an award to a black/chinese/japanese/puertorican actor/actress"
So, why are we asking the Academy to give awards to Disney for the sole fact that they are Disney? Yes, Disney does need a little bit of prestige, but should be because they EARNED it, not because out of pity and sadness.
Like others have said already, don't blindly bash movies because your favorite wasn't nominated. Go watch that movie if you can and you might be surprised. I thought Secret of Kells was wonderful and worthy of the nomination it got. So before putting down the Illusionist, you should see it.
So to sum it all up, stop the Pixar hate, I think it is getting into troll territory, stop all the conspiracy and stop wishing for the Academy to give out awards out of pity. A gold statue may be prestigious, but in the end it doesn't affect the legacy of a great film. A great film should be able to stand on its own and shouldn't need an award to prove that.

The GOD has spoken:
Even with 18 past noms under his belt, Oscar nominations day never gets old for composer Alan Menken, nommed for the tune "I See the Light" from the Disney toon "Tangled."
"Every project is your own child, so if your fifth child graduated from college you would feel just the same as your first child graduating," he said. "With this being my 19th it's just as great as the first."

Could you give us a link for that interview?mariadny wrote:The GOD has spoken:

Now that I think about that is probably the case. Although it's been a good year for animated films there weren't enough as far as stretching the amt of films nominated. I'm sure if there were 5 films nominated Tangled and Despicable Me would've definitely taken the other 2 spots. As it stands Tangled was one of the top 5 animated films this past year but not one of the top 3. It is a bummer though given the hype. Do you think they'll force the Academy to solidify the Best Animated Feature category to 5 films as a result of this?[/i]pap64 wrote: I feel that the ONLY reason Tangled didn't get nominated was because of a technicality. I also read another quote from Menken this morning (can't seem to find it now, for some reason), where he said that he will take the nomination as an acknowledgement of the entire film and how hard the crew worked on it.mariadny wrote:The GOD has spoken:

Lee Unkrich also leaped to Tangled's defence, saying it should have been nominated:
http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/165660 ... ions.jhtmlUnkrich said he was disappointed that the Best Animated Feature was limited to only three films, because there were many other great animated films this year that weren't acknowledged.
" 'Tangled' didn't get nominated and I was really rooting for them, they really deserved to be in there. And I'm disappointed for those guys because they made a really beautiful film that was definitely Oscar-worthy," Unkrich said.
Nice to see the director of the film that will (rightfully) win the award mention how he felt that he wanted a better competitor.
Oh, well. I think it has a strong chance of winning best original song, though the songs are also likely of winning it. But, I can see history repeating itself as the previous Toy Story songs also lost to Disney songs (Colors of the Wind and You'll Be in my Heart, respectively).

You really think so? Besides the fact that they've been prejudiced against animation in general for years? Pixar is the first company they've ever taken a real liking to.pap64 wrote:So what if Tangled didn't get nominated? It is not the end of the world. Doesn't describe me, and I'm sure there are other posters in this thread who feel the same way. Disliking Pixar doesn't have to be because they are Disney fans. It could just be because they don't like the film(s) in question, or that they feel there is a bias in place or because a film is getting more credit than it deserves because the movie-makers have a good record already. Also, stop the Pixar hate. You know, it is AMAZING how fans are quick to turn on them whenever Award season comes. When the movie is released...

Noone's saying Disney should be given a "pity" vote--a lot of people are saying they think Tangled EARNED one and didn't get it.So, why are we asking the Academy to give awards to Disney for the sole fact that they are Disney? Yes, Disney does need a little bit of prestige, but should be because they EARNED it, not because out of pity and sadness.
Overall, your post reads like a huge generalization. I have no doubt that some people are overly upset because they feel like Disney is being snubbed, but most of the posts have been okay and there is absolutely nothing wrong with Pixar-hate for good reasons (just like there's nothing wrong with Glee-hate, Keisha-hate, B&tB-hate, and so on, as long as there are actual good reasons to back it). And when you come to an awards thread, it's not "trolling" to give your actual reaction/thoughts on the subject.

I am disappointed that Tangled didn't get a nomination for Best Animated Picture, as it was my favorite Animiated film of the year (I've seen most), and also my favorite ANY film of the year. At least among the ones I've seen, which is admitedly relatively few, outside of the animation/fantasy/animal/"family-friendly" genres. Hopefully it will at least win for best song.
I'll be rooting for How To Train Your Dragon, which was my second favorite animated feature this year, and IMO Dreamworks' best effort to date (and no, I am NOT a "Pixar-hater", I just honestly preferred Dragon!)

Umm, no you really don't.DisneyAnimation88 wrote:It's disappointing about Tangled but you have to admit Toy Story 3 deserves it's nominations.
I haven't even seen Tangled yet, so I'm not just saying this because TS3 has robbed Tangled's nominantion.
But TS3's story was weak, repetitive, bland, monotonous and aside from the fact it had more money spent on it to make it look shinier, was in the same league as any of the Disney direct to video sequels.

Pap64, I've never heard any words righter (if that's a word) than that. I've always liked reading your posts, but this one tops the cake. And you guys really need to calm down: IT'S JUST AN AWARD. As long as you liked it, it'll got an award in your book.
And for all the people saying how Toy Story 3's plot is a rehash of the previous ones, and how it had no character development blah blah blah: you're absolutely right. The movie isn't really all that great on its own. It's because of the timing, the impact these characters have on us: that's what makes it so special. It may not have the Disney touch, or groundbreaking songs, but I believe it deserves every award it was nominated for: Pixar spent so much time and effort making sure you wouldn't be disappointed after 11 years, and they totally didn't. Toy Story 3 showed that it could still hold strong despite the troubled production and long gap between films. It's the Academy's way of awarding the trilogy, since the first 2 didn't get that much Oscar noms. So, I think we should just calm down and be happy that Disney made a spectacular, genuine comeback this year for their 50th DAC.
As for the Illusionist getting it over Tangled, I bet half of us haven't even seen it or know what it is.
