I agree.
To be honest, I just KNOW I'll be disappointed with this year's win. I love Pixar but in a year where all the possible nominees are actually worthy of the nomination, it's a shame to know that Pixar will still be the one going home with the title. I absolutely enjoyed TS3, and the ending was moving beyond anything I ever expected, but I also got that same emotion from Tangled and HTTYD. Those both had strong scripts and performances, and Tangled by far has the superior soundtrack and look (yes, superior to Pixar's TS3 in my opinion). It's just a shame the Oscars have become nothing more than an annual snub-fest thus preventing either of the above from a chance at winning.
I don't know if I agree with the annual snub-fest comment. To me, the Oscars is still the most consistant and usually correct awards show of them all, especially compared to shows like the Golden Globes, Emmys (TV), Grammys (music) etc. They sometimes get things wrong, but they usually are pretty good in rewarding the best in film.

I just think the Academy Award voters usually view the Pixar films as the best, and it's not like that comes from left field considering the strong annual love they get from both film critics and general audiences. History has proved that will eventually change; Pixar has been on an incredible roll since Ratatouille, which I know was adored by many who don't necessarily enjoy the animation form.

As good as Tangled was, and it was a well above-average fairly tale adaptation, I don't think it was as moving or successful, and it won't resonate to the older voters like Toy Story 3 did. And I don't believe that a studio should be punished for always winning...if Pixar put out the best animated film in 2010 (which it did IMHO), it deserves the award even if it has won a bunch of times in a row.

I would be floored if TS3 (and its 99% on RT + over a BILLION gross revenue) did not win Best Animated Feature and get a Best Picture nom (which it will not win).

I'm not sure why people think or expect TS3 to get a Best Picture nomination. What has TS3 done that it would get something that TS, TS2, Up, WALL E, Finding Nemo, etc. (the Pixar fest everyone seems to love) did not? :?

And I'm not sure why Tangled wouldn't resonate with older viewers, considering it's in the same vein as films going back to Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, easily 60 or 70 years older than Pixar. I honestly don't expect it to win, but I don't think that criticism is valid either. Of the big three, I personally feel HTTYD has the least chance of winning this year though.

To estefan: I still see Pixar winning with Cars 2 that year.

The day HTTYD wins over Toy Story 3 and Tangled is the day I start questioning the Oscars to be honest.

To each his own I guess. The Oscars, to me, have become so political in agenda and choice I can't help but wonder if honest votes are being cast or is it just about what's most "relevant" to vote for.

Agreed.

See, with that I'll have to disagree. There is no reason why Tangled can't resonate just as well with the adult crowd. The themes in the movie are timeless, and are in vain with themes Disney has always been known for; Love, dream-fulfillment, adventure. Moreover, I never stated Pixar should be punished for churning out superior films annualy. May the best film win, sure, but this year I feel Disney and - to an extent - Dreamworks offered the "fresher" movie (at least in terms of story and animation). The story and emotional resonance were, for me, equally satisfying in both Tangled and TS3, but the animation this time was better in Disney's field. That's really what tipped the scale for me.

And yeah, the statistics are amazing for TS3 (both it's position in RT.com and the gross of the movie) so why not have it win best picture? Yet another reason I'm disgruntled with the Oscars. I know there's a better chance of hell freezing over than an animated movie receiving a deserved best picture win.

1. Up got the nomination, but predictably ended up in a filler spot.

2. To answer that, go to Toysrus and look for Tangled there.

1. Did it? I had no idea. I never thought an animated film would get the chance to have a Best Picture Nomination again.

2. Well, I'm sure Toy Story has been merchandised to death, too. I had a Woody doll when I was around 10, so... It's just not like Disney to have films that popular and not make a fortune off them in cups, shirts, plushies, etc. And I'm not sure how a merchandise line is supposed to reflect on the movie(s) in question anyway...?

Why only three nominees for best Animated picture? And Tangled is not even among these... (sigh)

There wasn't enough eligible animated films released theatrically this year to garner five nominees. A shame.

I don't care much about the Oscars but as for which was my favorite of those listed (and while not having seen all of them), I voted for How to Train Your Dragon. I had feared it would be another crass Shrek clone and instead it was captivating. Sure, it had some flaws but that part where Toothless picks up the branch and draws in response to Hiccup's own attempt to communicate with a stick picture just took my breath away. That was real emotion and connection from cartoon figures.

I'd never even heard of the Tulip movie before but the artwork makes me want to check it out.
