Yeah, the graphic novel definitely looks great.

Anyways, one thing I forgot to mention earlier was about how some of the Lasseter films aren't "iconic" like the fab four.

Let's get some things straight. First, you guys have to remember that the era in which the fab four were released the animation industry was different from the one we are going through right now. At the time, there wasn't anything quite like the fab four. Sure, there were animated movies like Secret of NIHM and An American Tale in the 80s, but the fab four were the ones to both bring back classic Disney animation while being new and refreshing. They are iconic because they WERE unique. So much so that everyone, including Don Bluth, mimicked their style.

Today things are different. Everyone, including Disney themselves, is trying to make movies similar to Dreamworks and Pixar, two companies that defined animation back in the mid to late 90s. Until a company comes and creates an animated movie that is both drastically different and extremely popular, animators will be creating films akin to the efforts of those companies, hence why the Lasseter Disney films aren't "iconic". Disney is still playing catch up.

But like its been mentioned things have definitely improved. While those movies aren't perfect they are indeed very solid and hard to fault them, and I think they will be iconic to this current generation of viewers, depending on how they view the movies of course.

Just my two cents.

Just a word to the wise: don't be shocked when you see how skinny the graphic novel is. I knew it was only 48 pages, but I was still a little surprised at how thin and light it is. It's still great of course, just slender

Also there are several panels that use song lyrics in the speech bubbles, and some art I recognized from the limited edition storybook (can't speak for others, as that's the only one I own). Overall it's very colorful, well-drawn and cute <3

Dear Disney Enthusiasts,

Thanks for the cool pic, wafflenugget! Mother Gothel does indeed look as though she's sexy! She also looks rather gypsy-esque!

I recently watched a featurette, or a trailer, or something, during which Flynn was giving Rapunzel a bad time, and I suddenly realized that I needed/ should've known a big brother type of friend who was like that...

Thank you in advance for your replies.

Theres only 5 reviews, wait until we get at least 10 er so. The first few reviews are no indication of what the consensus will actually be.

By the way ! Did i forgot to mention how painfuly and deeply hurt i've been by the "Kingdom Celebration" track ?
All that music for... That
OK for the goofy saloon music dedicated to the thugs attending the wedding i presume... but after that, i was longing for an intoxicating thrilling reprise chorus climax finale, classical Disney, like Menken has always done, and very well done...
And there,... juste a useless, unnecessarily loud average music !!! What a shame, not even recognizable theme ! Should have been at least as thrilling as the end of "Kingdom dance" or "WWMLB reprise 2" !!!!!
I am very sad about that... Conclusions of Mermaid, Beast, Al, Poca (incredible finale !!!), Quasi and even Hercules were striking.... What happened here ?

hi mates, first of all, thanks a lot for the information, the sharing, the illusion, the time and the tons of pictures you post everyday

since I follow the news and read this forum I´m a little bit happier...
well and that´s because of rapunzel indeed

anyway, althought this proyect is miles away from the one most of us were expecting, it has provide us a new reason for looking forward a disney realise, and that´s enough for me

I was reading the critics en rotten tomatoes and it´s a little too soon to know if either the movie likes the critics or not...
only 5 positive reviews are a few... but what I an not understand is why the Variety critic is considered a fresh one as there is inside a lot of negative points against this movie

As far as I´ve read, I´m afraid this movie could have been much better if the producers wouldn´t worried so much about what the big public wants...

LucilleBallFilms wrote:I know alot of people wanted the lyrics to "I've Got A Dream" so here they are, sorry it's soo long, I took 10 minutes to type it up exactly as it was in the CD booklet.

Flynn:
I have a dream, like you-no, really!
Just much less touchy-feely
They mainly happen somewhere warm and sunny
On an island that I own
Surrounded by enormous piles of money
That's kind of weird, i thought Flynn sang this:

I have dreams, like you -- no, really!
Just much less touchy-feely
They mainly happen somewhere
warm and sunny
On an island that I own
Tanned and rested and alone
Surrounded by enormous piles of money

They let out a entire line if that's from the cd booklet...

Fairytales, you're quite correct–that's what I've been hearing, singing, and what's in the booklet. The song is quite staccato in Flynn's section, which makes some of the lyrics hard to hear.

pap64 wrote: Regarding CG animation, I personally am not bothered by it. Do I want to see more hand drawn, stop-motion and other methods of animation being used? Absolutely. But I am not one of those fans that are quick to diss a movie because it's in CG. After all, CG, like hand drawn animation is a means to tell a story.
I'm not sure if this is directed towards me or Marky, but I wasn't complaining that this movie was 3D (though I am and probably always will be disappointed that it wasn't greenlit as a 2D film). We were talking about the work that is in the film, not about it being 3D itself. That we might find some flaws doesn't mean we hate it just because it's 3D.
Also, about CG trying to be realistic, let us not forget that Disney's old animators studied human movement and physics A LOT in hopes of obtaining a realistic illusion. The difference now is that there is a dimension to work with. I say CG adds weight to the characters, hence why at times the movements are either stiff or odd. But to say that CG tries too hard to be realistic is forgetting that at one point the Disney animators wanted to convey some form of realism in their movies as well, often pairing it with extreme unrealism in the process.
Yes, I know. There's no reason to treat me like a dunce--I've seen Cinderella. The thing is that nothing in Cinderella comes off "stiff" when they go for a realistic look. Disney animators learned how to take the best of and leave the worst of live-action reference. 3D hasn't quite got there yet--and that's not me condemning the medium, but seeing that it still has room for improvement. 2D doesn't have the same flaws as 3D--to the point that it's hard to compare them. What works in 2D might not work in 3D, and vice versa. 2D films have been shown to have a heavy degree of realism without being hurt for it--3D hasn't reached that point. What I meant, personally, is that 3D itself is based on realism, moreso than 2D, because the films become almost like a live-action film on the computer. I simply pointed out (my opinion, of course), that 3D films only work when they go for stylized designs. When they try to go for extreme realism, like with Gothel, it doesn't work. Maybe that'll change in the future when they get better at it.

The only problem is they seem to treat CG as if it's 2D on the computer, when it's not. They're two different forms of animation, with their own individual strengths and weaknesses.

Again, I know. We are on a Disney forum, right? I do kind of know the general picture of these types of things.

Anyway, you've only repeated what I said. I wasn't trying to idolize the fab four, but point out that they were successful because they were different. Whereas TP&TF and Rapunzel are, to be fair, not. They are still in the same tradition of the animated musical that began with Oliver and Company and Mermaid. Yes, they are better movies than HOTR, of a much higher quality, but Disney won't stand out again until they try something different in the way they adapt stories. Which they aren't doing here.

When I said all of this, I was not being negative. I was just pointing out genuine points that I feel they could improve on. I'm sure I'll like Tangled well enough as a film (just as I loved MTR and enjoyed Bolt--other 3D films which I was not biased against). But I'm not expecting the Holy Grail like some people. That's all.

Just bought the soundtrack online, the digital booklet has all the lyrics.

When Will My Life Begin?

Seven A.M., the usual morning line-up
Start on the chores, and sweep ’til the floor’s all clean
Polish and wax, do laundry and mop and shine up
Sweep again And by then It’s, like, seven-fifteen

And so I’ll read a book
Or maybe two or three
I’ll add a few new paintings
To my gallery
I’ll play guitar and knit and cook
And ba^sic’ly Just wonder, when will my life begin?

Then, after lunch, it’s puzzles, and darts and baking...
^
Papier-maché, a bit of ballet, and chess...
Pottery and ventriloquy, candle-making...
Then I’ll stretch
Maybe sketch

Take a climb
Sew a dress
And I’ll re-read the books
If I have time to spare
I’ll paint the wall some more
I’m sure there’s room somewhere
And then I’ll brush, and brush
And brush, and brush my hair
Stuck in the same place I’ve always been
And I’ll keep won’dring

And won’dring
And won’dring
And won’dring
When will my life begin?

Tomorrow night...
The lights will appear
Just like they do on my birthday each year
What is it like
Out there where they glow?
Now that I’m older
Mother might just let me go.

When Will My Life Begin Reprise

I’ve got my mother’s love
I shouldn’t ask for more
I’ve got so many things
I should be thankful for
Yes, I have everything – except, I guess, a door
Perhaps it’s better that I stay in

But tell me... when will my life begin?
^

When Will My Life Begin Reprise 2

Look at the world – so close, and
I’m halfway to it!
Look at it all – so big – do
I even dare? Look at me – there at last! – I just have to do it
Should I? No. Here I go..^

Just smell the grass! The dirt!
Just like I dreamed they’d be!
Just feel that summer breeze – the way it’s calling me
For like the first time ever, I’m completely free!
I could go running

And racing
And dancing
And chasing
And leaping
And bounding
Hair flying
Heart pounding
And splashing
And reeling
And finally feeling
Now’s when my life begins![/i]

MOTHER KNOWS BEST

Mother Gothel:
You want to go outside? Why, Rapunzel...!
Look at you, as fragile as a flower Still a little sapling, just a sprout You know why we stay up in this tower

Rapunzel:
I know but...

Mother Gothel:
That’s right, to keep you safe and sound, dear
Guess I always knew this day was coming Knew that soon you’d want to leave the nest Soon, but not yet

Rapunzel:
But –

Mother Gothel:
Shh! Trust me, pet Mother knows best
Mother knows best Listen to your mother It’s a scary world out there Mother knows best One way or another Something will go wrong, I swear Ruffians, thugs Poison ivy, quicksand Cannibals and snakes The plague

Rapunzel:
No!

Mother Gothel:
Yes!

Rapunzel:
But –

Mother Gothel:
Also large bugs
Men with pointy teeth, and
Stop, no more, you’ll just upset me
Mother’s right here
Mother will protect you
Darling, here’s what I suggest
Skip the drama
Stay with mama
Mother knows best

Go ahead, get trampled by a rhino
Go ahead, get mugged and left for dead
Me, I’m just your mother, what do I know?
I only bathed and changed and nursed you
Go ahead and leave me, I deserve it
Let me die alone here, be my guest
When it’s too late
You’ll see, just wait
Mother knows best

Mother knows best
Take it from your mumsy
On your own, you won’t survive
Sloppy, underdressed Immature, clumsy
Please, they’ll eat you up alive
Gullible, naïve
Positively grubby
Ditzy and a bit, well, hmm vague
Plus, I believe
Gettin’ kinda chubby
I’m just saying ’cause
I wuv you
Mother understands
Mother’s here to help you
All I have is one request

Rapunzel?

Rapunzel:
Yes?

Mother Gothel:
Don’t ever ask to leave this tower again.

Rapunzel:
Yes, Mother.

Mother Gothel:
I love you very much, dear.

Rapunzel:
I love you more.

Mother Gothel:
I love you most.

Don’t forget it
You’ll regret it
Mother knows best

I have made a little video with When will my life begin reprise 2 in the background - with Ariel's story :) I thought it was kind of similar with Rapunzels, with the whole breaking free/new world part.

I've added lyrics in the annotations
