I don't understand, though, how they can just write such an important character out of the script! I would almost rather see them cast a "sound-alike" or something. Doc Hudson had such a vital part in the first film, that I simply can't imagine not being in the sequel!

Not quite, it sounds like he'll still be in it, just not long enough to talk. I'm thinking there will be some kind of montage where he isnt required to talk to explain what happened to him.Mickeyfan1990 wrote:So, that means Doc won't be in the sequel then? I think that's for the best 'cuz you can never find a replacement for a famous star especially Paul Newman. My only hope is that the sequel will live up to expectations.

Cars 2 has been pushed back to December 2011, it seems.

What is it with the Cars series always getting pushed back? Remember when the first Cars was supposed to come out in December 2005?
And I wonder what this bodes for The Bear and the Bow. Maybe they're going to give Winnie the Pooh a summer release (which I think is box-office suicide, as March would make more sense due to it being a quieter release month).

That site has made a correction!!!estefan wrote:Cars 2 has been pushed back to December 2011, it seems.

CORRECTION: Bog Iger was misquoted in the transcript from yesterday's call. He said "the summer of 2011" instead of "December of 2011." The release date for Cars 2 is still June 24, 2011.

In stranger news, I’ve had two sources independently hint to me that Cars 2 is actually having production problems, and I’ve seen that rumor posted anonymously today on the Animation Guild’s blog. Whispering campaign or fact, I don’t know, but it’s something to keep an eye out for.

Cars 2 Gets A Toon Up...

See, [Lasseter's] been stuck up in Emeryville working on "Cars 2" so that it's ready for release next year.
There have been story problems that have developed late last year and into the new year that needed to be addressed.
So as of now, John is riding the film as co-director. Now, will he be listed in the credits as that when the film comes out? Not yet determined if he'll get his name up there with that label. We will see as time starts to move closer to the release date.

...John Lasseter is now officially the co-director of “Cars 2.”
I know, I know. This has been whispered about for months now. But at the holiday showcase yesterday, the Disney reps were quite up front about the fact that the chief creative officer of Pixar and Disney Animation Studios is now working side-by-side with Brad Lewis, the producer of “Ratatouille.” More importantly, that the Company anticipates that this June 2011 release will be a worthy follow-up to that 2006 Pixar Animation Studios release.

Well, Cars was a pretty personal project for Lasseter and the whole European Tour story was his idea, I imagine Cars 2 is pretty important to him. Still, it's kind of odd seeing him as a co-director, considering he was the top director on Pixar's first three films as well as Cars. But, I guess if it's having some story problems, he should give a helping hand. I guess Catmull is over at Burbank, while Lasseter is busy at Pixar.
