I'm hugely worried about how our insiders say that the film borrows from past Disney films, or that we won't be surprised by any unexpected twists - that we've all seen it before.

I think such familiarity and deja vu ruined The Princess and the Frog. I'm waiting for Walt Disney Animation Studios to start making great films again, not merely OK films. I want Oscar-worthy films that will be remembered for being great. Sadly, it doesn't sound to me that Tangled is aiming high at all. :( I want the film to be more ambitious.

I will agree with that. It's like the filmmakers took all of the aspects I love from my favourite Disney films and put it into one big gumbo, so to speak. And as an added bonus, I enjoyed Tiana and Naveen more than any of the previous fairy tale couples Disney has had (though Beauty and the Beast is still my favourite Disney classic).

And is anybody else frustrated they haven't released a trailer yet, when a bunch of reports have shown it's completed and was screened for the press already? If they feel it's too early, they should to what Edgar Wright is doing with Scott Pilgrim and release the trailer when an official Tangled Facebook page released 100,000 fans, they will release it. That's a smart bit of viral marketing, but I guess that's too logical for Disney. :roll:

Not sure if this is the same person as the other review, but from imdb comes the following, FILLED WITH SPOILERS! SOME THAT ARE QUITE BIG, OTHERS AREN'T... SO BE WARNED!:

The movie is NOT 50% finished; more like 11% (that is what we were told and what we saw) 11% completely finished and beautiful, probably about 50% computer animated (but no dresses or hair finished, characters look like they are wearing leotards) and some story board. But the soundtrack IS finished and we were able to hear the whole movie set to the above mentioned video. My 8 year old BOY loved it, so I think Disney will please most folks with this one.

p.s. I live in So Cal and was randomly picked to see the special viewing, we were not told what we were seeing until the movie started and were wanded for recording devices not only when we went in, but everytime I had to come back in from taking my boy to the restroom.

in the next update comes a HUGE, HUGE, HUGE MAJOR SPOILER!!!

BE WARNED, MAJOR, HUGE SPOILER IN THE NEXT BIT, SCROLL DOWN TO READ ON WITHOUT BEING SPOILED!!!

I assure you MagicKingdom that I am telling the truth. Whether you beleive me or not is irrelevant. As far as spoilers go, what exactly wants to be known? The songs? They are in there, but they did ask us alot about them, so are they thinking about changing them? I doubt it, the only portion of the movie that was mostly storyboard was the ending, that seems to have a lot of room for improvement. There were people in the test crowd that thought that Flynn/Rider got off too easily without any form of redemption (he is a bit of a rogue/Thief) So maybe some parts will change, as it stands I can tell you that the protagonist does die (as it stands now, almost certain to change, notvery popular with the audience) though I wonder why, the protagonist do die in some Disney.

UPDATE: IN LATER POST ON IMDB SHE SAYS THE ANTAGONIST (THE VILLAIN) DIES!!!

END OF SPOILER!!!

Alot of the crowd really liked the first song that Rapunzel sings alone, did not like the first song that the fake mother sings, liked the songs that involved Rapunzel and Ryder. Liked the slapstick comedy (there are some great supporting characters in this movie, horses, chameleons and what not)

I loved the "Lights" song and can only imagine how good the scene will look finished.

in a new post she says the following, which also contains quite a big spoiler! :

Wait, wait, let me back up. I meant the Antagonist dies, sorry. The villian, not the hero.

I would describe the overall vibe of the movie as it stands now more like Emperors New Groove as far as humor goes; like i said my son enjoyed it, so it does have something for everyone. Lots of little girls in the audience too and it had a great message as far as "Following your Dreams." Music was finished as I said, it has an opening song, but not memorable, it's Rapunzels first solo song that everyone loved and the antagonist's song that some folks didn't care for; now I doubt that they will be taking out any songs, but you never know; great song in the middle sang for a large group in a tavern that revisits the Follow your Dreams message.

well it should come out in Nov right? That is what IMDB says. As far as I can tell, Mandy Moore sings the songs. You guys got to remember, i had no idea about this movie; i just got picked out of a group going to see Shrek the 4th with my son. They didn't even tell us what we were seeing until the movie started.

The villian song was "Intimidating" and "Creepy" those were two words to describe it. It has a Mother knows Best vibe to it, but done in a creepy way, it also sounds very "broadway". Those were some words used to describe it after the movie when some of us stuck around and shared with some folks from Nielson and the Studio

The movie apparently IS 50% animated! Probably a lot of shots waiting for be rendered. Keeping in mind that some frames take up to 11 hours to be rendered, at 25 frames a second, rendering might take a while...

But here's the proof:

On May 22, 2010, the Disney Animation crew celebrated the completion of 50% of "Tangled." Here is footage of the party, shot using a Super-8 camera

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ftIJ74zuy-o&hl ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ftIJ74zuy-o&hl=nl_NL&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

Being 50% animated doesnt mean there's more than 10% of the film completed. a lot goes into a a shot before its finalized.

Whoa, the spoilers sound exciting! Now I'm even more excited for the songs than I already was. Now I have to say, though, I actually was thinking that Gothel would die. Why? Just because a lot of Disney villains do. No big surprise. Wonder if she falls off of something? I love it when that happens, since it always comes off as a reference to all of the falling deaths of Disney villains....

What if that wasn't proof?The video is just a barbique party.Nothing to prove that it's a legit Disney crew party.What if it was just an ordinary party video?

Anybody else getting really frustrated at Disney not releasing the trailer already? I may sound like a broken record, but every morning I wake up and get instantly annoyed that there's no trailer yet. Why is Disney stalling so much? We have been waiting for this film for ten years now, the least they can do is release something -anything- from it.

I actually wouldn't be so annoyed, if it wasn't revealed that the trailer is finished and was screened for the press. Disney needs a complete restoration of their marketing department, because they're doing a terrible job of getting the word about this project. And releasing it a week after Harry Potter won't be helping it, either.

I felt the same way, but I am sure that Disney will soon unleash the trailer before, "Toy Story 3," gets released in theaters. After all, patience is a virtue. That is what my second youngest brother told me when waiting.

I don't think I like the sounds of this. I mean, The Emperor's New Groove was hilarious, but I don't want Tangled to be a straight-up comedy like that movie was. I was hoping it to be more romantic than that.

The review talks about Emporer's New Groove in relation to the humor and comedy of the movie. Which can only be a good thing as Emporer's New Groove had a very slapstick, sarcastic, clever and witty sense of humor, in contrast to the obvious, flat, straight-forward comedy that is on display in way too many animated features these days.

Other reviews etc have expressed very clearly that the movie is a very good combination of comedy, romance and action adventure!

I am glad that this new review is positive, even though I am a little wary, since the whole thing was from an anonymous e-mail. Supposing this person was telling the truth, two positive points stand out:
1) Apparently the music will be good (especially in that pub scene).
2) The finished animation will be unique and beautiful. (Watercolor look? Interesting.)

However, this reviewer also claims that the story still displays a predictacble, princess-story vibe. I hope this film won't end up being turned down for being too "typical," the way many people felt about TPANF (which I loved.)

:o IT SAID SOMETHING ABOUT BLOOD! :shock: AND IT'S NOT A PAPER-CUT.IT'S A SELF STAB IN THE HAND! :shock: I'm exaggerating.

I'm surprised that the reviewers like the slapstick comedy and the not-so-new narrative.I'm hoping to see something experimental in this film besides the animation. :D

More info from ropeofsilicon:

http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/article/fi ... ys-tangled

Originally titled Rapunzel, Disney Animation's Tangled marks the studio's 50th full-length animated feature. Directed by Byron Howard (Bolt) and Nathan Greno, the film centers on bandit Flynn Rider (voice of Zachary Levi) who hides out in a mysterious tower only to be taken hostage by Rapunzel (voice of Mandy Moore), a beautiful and feisty tower-bound teen with 70 feet of magical, golden hair.

Flynn's curious captor, who's looking for her ticket out of the tower where she's been locked away for years, strikes a deal with the handsome thief and the unlikely duo sets off on an action-packed escapade, complete with a super-cop horse, an over-protective chameleon and a gruff gang of pub thugs.

Along with Levi and Moore, the film features the voices of Donna Murphy, Ron Perlman, M.C. Gainey, Jeffrey Tambor, Brad Garrett and Paul F. Tompkins and is set for a November 12 limited release (expanding nationwide on Nov. 24) and just above you get a look at the very first production still from the feature. For a slightly larger look as well as a peek at earlier revealed concept art click here.

From this we now know many more voice actors from the movie:

* Mandy Moore
* Zachary Levi
* Donna Murphy
* Ron Perlman
* M.C. Gainey
* Jeffrey Tambor
* Brad Garrett
* Paul F. Tompkins
