Last night, I tried watching a Blu-Ray in my PlayStation 3, and at one point, it just froze and would not let me skip to another scene or even eject it (I had to turn the switch off and on again to get it out). I then tried playing another Blu-Ray and it would not read it. I tried a video game, however, and it worked fine.
I am now thinking of getting a standalone Blu-Ray player.

Re: I Think My PS3 is Broken....
I was watching a movie yesterday and it also randomly froze and I had to restart it, as well. That's interesting... I don't have any idea as to what/why that happened, though.PixarFan2006 wrote:Last night, I tried watching a Blu-Ray in my PlayStation 3, and at one point, it just froze and would not let me skip to another scene or even eject it (I had to turn the switch off and on again to get it out). I've always heard it wasn't a good ideal to turn the original PS3s off with the back switch when they were locked up? I know the slims don't have this switch.
Anyway it sounds like your Blu-ray drive is on the way out. Was the game you played a Blu-ray PS3 game or an older PS2 game? I've heard of PS3s not reading Blu-rays, but reading DVD/CDs with no problems... If its still under warranty Sony will fix it for free. Depending on which PS3 you have Sony will repair it for $150 to $180. I know they raised the prices of fixing the 60GB PS3s, but they offer a slim as a replacement for the 60GB for $150.
If its not under warranty, and you don't play games a stand alone player might be a good ideal. You can get one cheaper than paying Sony to fix or send you a refurbished PS3 out of warranty.

Had the same problem. Found a guy to fix it in the on-line classifieds for $80. Evidently not an uncommon yroblem. That would only work for you if you live in a big city. Otherwise you are reliying on Sony's inflated prices and poor service
