Alice in Wonderland Special Un-Anniversary Edition DVD
What I can't wrap my head around is how they think this release will be profitable. Alice is still in most stores even though it was vaulted. We have it at every Walmart, FYE, and Best Buy I've been to. The fact that there is no blu-ray really makes me mad. Disney needs to decide what it wants. This is ridiculous and very unprofessional. Do they even listen to what the public want at all?

I have to say, I am really dissapointed with disney. i mean
. delaying dumbo
.not releasing alice on blu-ray
.not knowing when the diamond editions are coming
. and delaying the black cauldron when it was suppposed to be released in june and probably delaying the great mouse detective.
what is going on BVHe US

Naturally I'll be buying it again helping to get Alice all the sales she can get
I am outraged though that there is no blu ray! it makes no sense, especially when they had supposedly already shown footage of from the movie during one of this blu ray push conventions. Can anyone confirm that or was it just false information?

Alice in Wonderland: Special Un-Anniversary Edition
So NOBODY else thinks that Alice should be in the center of the cover because that's how she was in the film, and its her film, and the Mad Hatter is just in the center because of Johnny Depp's Mad Hatter taking the center of Tim Burton's Alice?
WonderlandFever, Alice was in some Blu-ray promotion, but was not mentioned as one of the films to come soon to Blu-ray, but neither were Sleeping Beauty or Pinocchio or Snow White...
See for yourself Disney goes Blu.

She wasn't in the center of the Gold Collection or Masterpiece Edition DVD covers either. I don't see why it should be an issue.Disney Duster wrote:So NOBODY else thinks that Alice should be in the center of the cover

Yeah, I... really don't think it matters if she's in the center. How many people do you think will look at it and say "The Mad Hatter's in the center? Say, I should see the new 'Alice in Wonderland' movie!" If the cover were like an enormous picture of the Mad Hatter with a tiny Alice in the corner, then MAYBE, but even then... Pinocchio was to the right of his DVD / Blu-ray cover, too.
And the lack of Blu-ray is disappointing but hardly surprising. I do imagine the DVD will include a promotional video extolling the virtues of Blu-ray, however.

Wow! What a bad decision on the part of WDSHE. With Blu-Ray now taking between 10-30% of the market share for most releases and with this "Un-Birthday Edition" being mostly a direct port of the "Masterpiece Edition," why wouldn't they want to get 10-30% of the people who bought the previous version to repurchase it on Blu-Ray? Because for most of us, 2 small bonus features aren't enough to make us double dip and I'm assuming the restoration and transfer is the same. I would be willing to pay for the film again in HD, but there is no way Disney is getting me to rebuy this on DVD, and it sounds like a lot of UD members who have a Blu-Ray player feel the same way.
Oh well. At least Alice in Wonderland is only on the 5 year rotation and not 7 years.

Thing is, its not really catering to the DVD crowd either. But if you're happy for Disney to simply crap out another disc simply because there's a new film coming out, more power to you. It's much more of a rip-off than any HD Blu-ray re-release ever has been or ever will be.The_Iceflash wrote:So this release isn't catering to the Blu-crowd. Isn't that a shame. How dare Disney.
Really, how people who claim upgrading to blu-ray isn't worth it can claim this sorry excuse for a re-release is worth even releasing, let alone upgrading their DVD is beyond me.

I'm glad to see Disney is sticking to their "let's cram in as much characters as possible on the cover" policy.

I heard that it's supposed to be everything from the Masterpiece Edition, with two added things: a deleted scene and a retrospective.Spottedfeather wrote:Is there a list of the features on the dvd somewhere ? I'd only be interested in this if it has the same features as the Masterpiece version. I hate the cover art, though.

I guess I'm the only one whose not bothered by this release, since I never got the Masterpiece Edition, so I will be picking this up. As for them not releasing it on Blu-Ray, while I do have a Blu-Ray player, I'm not too bothered by not getting an HD transfer. Besides, I'm more pre-occupied with getting Toy Story, Fantasia, Beauty and the Beast and The Princess and the Frog on Blu-Ray. Now, if only they could announce a release date for those last three.
