what is your favorite DAC of the 2000 decade?

Post by akhenaten »

i don't want any arguments on the legibility of fantasia and dinosaur :P im just putting whats on the american DAC list. :)

vote for ur most favorite and feel free to rank them in order later!

here's my personal pick.

i chose princess and frog because it puts a fairy tale in a different light.im now used to seeing an ambitious princess that when i look at aurora i scoff at her vulnerability, even tho i love her.heh.

my ranking would be

1)princess and the frog/lilo and stitch 3.5 / 5
2)fantasia/2000 3.5 / 5
3)the emperor's new groove 3 / 5
4)home on the range 3 / 5
5)brother bear 3 / 5
6)meet the robinsons 2.8 / 5
7)bolt 2.5 / 5
8)atlantis the lost empire 2.5 / 5
9)treasure planet 2.5 / 5
10)dinosaur 2 / 5
11)chicken little 0 / 5 (this title really doesnt deserve to be in my list)

4. The Princess and the Frog

Good Movies:

5. Brother Bear
6. Atlantis: The Lost Empire
7. Bolt

Bad Movies:

8. Dinosaur (should've stayed a silent film as originally planned)

11. Treasure Planet
12. Meet the Robinsons

Oh, c'mon! Do I really have to choose just one in the poll!? :(

Okay, I picked The Princess and the Frog in the poll. But if I could pick two, it'd be that and Bolt. :P

Couldn't really say since I still need to see Princess and the Frog. Just didn't have a chance with the holidays, and tomorrow I go out of town. I expect to see it for sure sometime next week. As of now though, I'm very torn between Lilo and Stitch and Treasure Planet, and possibly Emperor's New Groove as well. Fantasia 2000 was also great though.

Atlantis was sooo lacklustre, as was Dinosaur, and I actually didn't like Chicken Little at all, which is hard for me to say about any Disney animated film, but I sometimes say that about Atlantis too.

Almost loved Brother Bear, but the opening kills the whole movie for me. It is trying so hard to be The Lion King, and it's obvious and ridiculous. Too bad, as the rest is a great film.

Home on the Range is really underrated. It's not a top fave, but I liked it a lot.

Meet the Robinsons was mostly great, but I thought the weirdness of the Robinson family was more dumb than humorous, and that was disappointing. Otherwise, a great movie. Bolt was great but not "special" in any way really.

On the bright side though, I wouldn't say that it was PIXAR alone that had the best Disney features in 2000, as I think Lilo and Stitch at least was as good as a PIXAR film (probably the best one of the 3 I was debating over), and maybe Emperor's New Groove too. Perhaps Treasure Planet doesn't have enough originality points to say the same, but I still LOVED it very much. Again, haven't seen Princess and the Frog.

I went for Lilo & Stitch. It was a little more original and memorable for me.

Ranked in order (though, I haven't seen TPatF or HotR):

Fantasia 2000
Lilo & Stitch
The Emperor's New Groove
Bolt
Treasure Planet
Brother Bear
Dinosaur
Meet the Robinsons
Chicken Little
Atlantis: The Lost Empire

From what I hear, The Princess and the Frog would be near the top and Home on the Range somewhere near the end.

Lilo & Stitch for me. It retains the Disney feeling and storytelling quality without succumbing to convention and formula. Here's how I rank all of them:

Excellent (****)
1. Lilo & Stitch
2. The Emperor's New Groove
3. Meet the Robinsons
4. The Princess and the Frog

Great (***1/2)
5. Fantasia 2000

Good (***)
6. Bolt
7. Brother Bear
8. Treasure Planet
9. Atlantis: The Lost Empire

Okay (**1/2)
10. Chicken Little
11. Home on the Range

My choice hands down is The Princess and the Frog for best movie of the decade.

Don't understand all the haters for "Dinosaur". I can't think of any other Disney film with an opening 10 minutes that sat you back in your seat like it did. After that opening sequence it did get a little slower and seemed to be a quickly put together movie, but I don't think it was bad enough to say "it should have been a silent film"!!!

"Dinosaur" would be in the same category as "Lilo & Stitch" and "Brother Bear" which are in my Top Five movies of the animated films of the past 10 years.

:D
The only way to watch movies - Original Aspect Ratio!!!!

the problem is imho, the first 10 minutes of dinosaur wowed u so well, what comes after was sort of a letdown...with bad lemur attitude and it was just tooo full of scorching hot scenes. it should've had the energy it displayed in its opening act.same with bolt...granted it was just a tv show in the beginning but the rest of the movie deceived u by giving a slow road trip.and night scenes are always a bore, like the scenes in the cave in dinosaur and rhino's motivational talk..same thing would apply to tiana and naveen's bonding scene.

Well, I love them all! I voted for TPatF, but it was really hard to choose! My ranking would be:

1. The Princess and the Frog
2. Treasure Planet
3. Brother Bear
4. Fantasia 2000
5. Bolt
6. Atlantis: The Lost Empire
7. Chicken Little
8. Lilo & Stitch
9. Meet the Robinsons
10. The Emporer's New Groove
11. Home on the Range
12. Dinosaur

Jeez... that was a hard list to make! Some of them just kind of clicked right into place, and others kind of "jockied for position!" I switched TENG and HotR around about 5 times! Same with Bolt and Atlantis. The others pretty much belong where they are, but I do really like them all. I just prefer some over others.

Well, after finally seeing The Princess and the Frog, I must update my list. Even though I only saw it once, it was definitely up there with the best. I'll need to watch it again, but here's my listing so far:

Fantasia 2000
Lilo & Stitch
The Princess and the Frog
The Emperor's New Groove
Bolt
Treasure Planet
Brother Bear
Dinosaur
Meet the Robinsons
Chicken Little
Atlantis: The Lost Empire

My vote was for Lilo & Stitch. I still laugh and cry when I see that movie, and as good as Princess and the Frog was, it just didn't have the qualities that L&S had.

We already know PatF is going to win. Not because it may be the best, or because it may really turn out to be people's favorite, but because it's just out now, and a lot of people have seen it recently. Ask this question a year from now and I'll bet the answers will be *very* different.

(I didn't see the film yet and I'm not saying it's a bad film. Just pointing out how this kind of polling usually works.)

For me, it has to be Lilo & Stitch, and I didn't have to think a second about it. Had you asked me to pick a favorite from any other decade, I would have a very hard time. But the 2000 decade was such an awful one when it comes to Disney-films, this pick was easy.

Yet I didn't pick Lilo just because the other ones stunk. Lilo is in my personal top 10 of Disney films. It's one of the best I've ever seen. Off-beat story and unique, never-before seen characters, a fresh appraoch in the music department, and beautiful watercoloring all combined made this film a real winner.

Did we do polls for the other decades, yet? Because it might be kind of fun to see what Disney movies would win for all of the others, then. They might be closer contests! :P

And Goliath, if you haven't seen TPatF yet, do it as soon as you possibly can. It's well worth it, and then you'll see the real reason why a lot of people are voting for it.
