Gum: The Official Discussion

Post by Escapay »

As a kid, the very first gum I had was Carefree Bubble Gum. My aunt always chewed it, so she'd always have some on her. Whenever we asked for gum, she'd always give us a piece.

Image
In second grade, I discovered what I then considered the best gum in the world: Fruit Stripe gum. They had several different flavours packaged in one pack, and my favourite flavours were the mixed fruit and the lemon. Sometimes I liked eating two sticks, one of cherry, the other of grape. And the cotton candy flavour was awesome.

Other gums of my childhood included Bubble Tape, Bubble Yum, Bubblicious (which I mistakenly believed would pop as loudly as they did in the commercials), and non-bubble gum like Double Mint, Juicy Fruit, Big Red, etc. I actually preferred the Spearmint taste over the Double Mint one.

Image
I like gumballs, but would really prefer sticks. You can't carry a bag of gumballs in your pocket as easily as could a pack of gum.

I went through a phase in middle & high school where I opted for tic tacs, altoids, chocolate Velamints, Werther's caramels, etc. in place of gum. Mainly because I was such a rule-abiding student that I didn't dare chew gum in class, though sucking on a tic tac or hard candy or whatever was allowed. I still remember the one time I opted to chew gum in class. It was my Spanish class in Sophomore Year, and immediately my teacher noticed. She told me to spit it out and asked the students who put me up to it (!), since she knew I didn't chew gum. One of my friends confessed, and he didn't get punished/disciplined, but because he confessed, he had to spit his gum out too.

Image
If I had to pick a favourite non-bubble gum, it'd probably be Winterfresh. A blue stick of gum, how much more awesome can it get?

Image
I used to eat Extra gum, but really don't buy it much anymore.

Image
I've had Orbit before, but Jane buys them more than I do.

Image
My current gum of choice is Trident Bubble Gum. Partly because each piece feels like the perfect amount to make decent-sized bubbles, and also not take up a lot of roomin your mouth. Also, it's got this kick in its flavour that I can't find anywhere else.

I hope one day they really do invent the gum that's in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. We just have to figure out how to not end up as a blueberry.

Bubblicious used to be my favorite along with Doublemint, but I haven't had a craving for gum for years. As someone who regularly brushes his teeth and flosses I don't have any use for gum or Axe to fake begin clean.

I hope that's not meant to imply that regular gum chewers don't brush their teeth or floss or fake being clean. :(

I have an oral fixation, which is why I always chew the Itzakadoozie stick long after the popsicle is done, bite my straws to make them flat and wrinkly, and have a need to chew gum half the time. Thankfully, I don't smoke. But even with oral fixation, I brush my teeth like a good little boy.

Ooh, I wish I could still chew gum! The sugary stuff hurts a cavity I still need to have fixed (plus I'm trying to avoid sugar altogether) and I can't have any aspartame (the main artificial sweetener they use).

But there was a certain kind of gum I used to really enjoy that was fruit and tea flavored. I don't remember what it was called though.

I'm not much of a gum-chewing person, especially if it's sweet. I just have an urge to swallow it. I don't like Dum-Dum suckers either because I'll lick them twice and then bite them... I just don't chew gum much.

A thread after my own heart!

I've been addicted to various types of Trident White for years, predominately Peppermint, Wintergreen, and Cool Rush.

At some points in the past, I've been into Extra cinnamon gum, but that's mainly because years ago my parents had bought a lot of the stuff to bring to WDW (for airplane purposes), and we also had a lot in the parks, Hence, chewing it brings back some sense of nostalgia for me.

Image

More recently, I have incorporated Orbit White Bubblemint gum (and, as Albert mentioned, Trident White has just started making a decent bubblegum flavor):

Image

Lately, I've been branching out into the more fruity world of gum (it makes me feel like I'm eating candy).

This is awesome:

And so is this:

I'm not typically a mint person, but I also have to give props to this:

I liked them so much, I had to hide them from myself. I unfortunately did this very successfully because I had a craving the other day and couldn't find them!

I'm a big gum-chewer and fan. Which is a comedown from when I was younger, when I was a psycho gum-chewer and would chew anything.

Gum is one of the few things you taste where it doesn't matter at all how sugarless or sugary it is. It's always a pleasure to have in your mouth. I only do Orbit now. It's a very expensive brand the way I buy it. But I've grown addicted to the flavors. I do Strawberrymint, Citrus Mint, Bubblemint, and my favorite - Raspberrymint. I need the fruit flavors. I was never crazy before about the mint flavor in them (I used to hate mint gum with a passion), but I'm accustomed to the mixture now.

So long as I can blow bubbles in it.

I'll also mix the flavors together. Bite off half a stick of Strawberrymint and put that together with a half a stick of Citrus Mint. Or, 1 full stick of each together. I like my bubbles big.

I agree with him.

I like that quote; very imaginative.

But I don't agree.

My childhood favorite was a gum called Bubble Jug. It was little pieces of bubbles gum with some sort of sugar crystals in a little plastic jug. I don't really go for gum too often now, but when my wisdom teeth were starting to come in, I went through a pack a day because the chewing helped with the pain.

I don't crave gum, but I would go for something minty, especially after I eat.

Also, I think some of those Orbitz commercials are clever(the verbal insult ones)

Gum is the ruler of all things. Surrender to its' almighty power. You have no choice, Gum will destroy you if you don't stop slandering its' good name.

Who does?

You can get the same effect with a TicTac or a Certs. Boring!

Oh, well, we all have to meet our respected ends somehow. I will meet mine with honor as I take a stand opposed to the evil reign of gum.
