The UD Chat Topic Thread! (Chat regulars please read!)

Post by xxhplinkxx »

So, I just came up with an idea and want to run it by you all.

As you know, the "topic" of the chat can be changed. I thought it would be fun to have an actual "Topic of the Day" kind of thing.

I won't just be making these up myself though... (you know what that would lead to )

Actually, I'm gonna let YOU pick the topics! I want you all to e-mail me topics that you would like to see used in the chat and I will choose them at random and, provided I get enough responses, change it every day! These can range from serious topics such as current events and perhaps something you would like to discuss about yourself/life, if they can be made into a more general topic of discussion and not just about you, or just silly and fun topics (as longs as they're not too silly). Just things that you guys (and Amy and Rachael :p) would like to see discussed.

How it works: You can send me an e-mail with your topic suggestion(s). Please name the subject "UD Topic". Any e-mails not titled as such, will NOT be read. And please try not to send me 80 e-mails in one day. If you have more than one suggestion, that's great but try to lump as many of them into one e-mail as possible.

You can e-mail topics to: UDCTopics@gmail.com

***Please, include your UD username in the e-mail. If I can fit in your username, I'll try to include it. If there is a specific topic you prefer to stay anonymous on, please say so in the e-mail next the topic.

So, feel free to use this thread to discuss this idea and let me know what you all think, post about topics you really enjoyed, or just start e-mailing me those topics!

Thanks,

Chris

Happy Chatting! :pink::pink::pink:

Note to mods: Although this may fit better in the games/polls section, I figured it would best go here since this is where the the chat thread is posted.

I don't really think this is going to work out.

First of all, it's going to be REALLY hard to stay on topic throughout the entire chat, as we like to talk about a lot of different things.

We should also be able to discuss different topics leisurely, without expecting each person in the chat to post a paragraph on what they think about the topic.

We usually discuss important topics. I know we've discussed politics, homosexuality, marriage, pets, neighbors, food, movies, television, music, books, computers, DVDs, CDs, etc.

I really like the chat as it now (minus, you know, that it's at everywherechat :P )

I agree with everything that Dan wrote.

At the same time, though, I don't think that having a Topic of the Day is a bad idea at all! I don't think that Chris meant that all we'll talk about is that Topic of the Day. We would just end up talking about it, and as people come into the chat, we all can just talk about whatever topic that is.

As long as the chats don't become Topic-centric only, then I see no problem with this...like when there is a lull in conversation, then that might be a good time to talk about the Topic of the Day.

I'll email you some ideas at some point!

I actually think that's a great idea Chris, but maybe we can pick a topic that's not too specific, so we can talk about a lot of things while staying in the lines of the general topic.

I think a better idea is to agree on a time or date, so everyone can be in the chat at the same time, so it won't be a matter of luck if we find everyone there. But pls put the time in GMT format otherwise I'd be confused ! lol

I'm more of a chat irregular, so I'm not sure how I feel.

I didn't even know there was a UD chat! I learn something new everyday.

Not that it matters. I've never really liked chats. They revert to complete insanity 99% of the time. That's not a bad thing, but I'd find it in the real world and not online if that's what I was in the mood for. :D

Only around 2 AM when I start chatting pantsless. Then anything goes.

Woah, complete insanity? You rang?

I'm kinda indifferent about a "topic of the day" because there's never any real topic anyway. I guess it all depends on who's on (About half the day I'm there by myself anyway  )

But as far as a length limit goes... there IS no limit. I've seen topics that were like 2 or 3 lines long before... just FYI.

Dan, you suck.

Of course you like to change topics, who doesn't?? I'm not saying we have to talk about ONLY that topic, I just think it'd be fun to have some random topic just to serve as a conversation piece, especially for those times where it gets kinda dead and everyone stops talking.

Thanks, Amy! I'm looking forward to reading them.

Obviously I don't suck if Amy agrees with me! :D

Idk...maybe we should just start suggestions topics more than you having a general one every day. I don't really thing it needs to be this big, with you having people e-mail you and such. Sorry, I just don't really like the idea. :(

Well, this idea seems to have been a failure, so if the mods could please lock/delete this thread, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

I guess I'm in the minority of this, but I really like your idea, plinky. I think it would be fun to maybe have a daily topic we could discuss for fun. We don't have to strictly discuss it the entire time in the chat, but I think it would be fun to discuss a certain thing each day.

Everyone step off. The topic is currently "Congratulations to Ryan on his license!!!". So shut up while I bask in the glory and excitement of getting my driver's license.

Haha, just kidding!

But in all seriousness, Chris, I don't think this idea is that bad. It might get tiring always changing the topic though don't you think? This is sorta along the lines of what Damy (Dan and Amy) said (well, they DID have the same idea!), but we ARE a very random group of UD Chatters, so I think it would be difficult to stay on topic. If only we weren't so ADD-ish it would work. I do think it's a great idea though! :)
