In my opinion, I think it's pretty interesting. I, for one, have been getting tired of waiting for a good VC game to come out, so Wiiware is a great alternative.

I have only downloaded 2 Wiiware games so far, FFCC MLAAK and Defend Your Castle. Both games are fun and addicting.
Haven't checked any of them out yet, but I'm thinking about getting Dr. Mario Online Rx. We'll see. The games you mentioned, what are those like?
My Life as a King is a city building sim with some fantasy elements. Its supposed to take place after the events in Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles (Which I've never played). You hire and send adventurers out of town to complete quests to help unlock items for the town. Its more fun than it sounds.

Defend Your Castle is a Flash-style game where you must keep intruders away from your castle by throwing them around with your Wiimote. You can also convert them to fight for you later on.

I also got a new one; TV Show King, which is basically a trivia game that uses your Miis as contestants.

Oh ok, thanks for the feedback. One thing I wish the Wii would venture into, in terms of the virtual console and Wii Ware is demos. It would be nice if you could play a demo of the game, or be able to download a trial version for a day or something. There are so many games on there that I am curious about, but I don't want to spend the money to buy them and then end up not liking them.

I wished the Wii had demos as well. I think it comes down to a storage issue with the Wiis internal memory. I think Nintendo needs to release a hard drive, or let us use the SD slot to for extra storage.

Thats really my only complaint on the Wii is the fact that the SD card slot is pretty useless, and certain game saves are locked to the console.

Anyway has anyone got Dr. Mario yet, and how is it?

I suppose I could just not update my console, I have 2 Wii's so I can update one of them freely and the other I'll just keep it as it is. I don't suppose that you'd have to update from a disc either with the Freeloader as it is a swap disc trick so it will probably bypass the disc channel.

I thought something like this would happen. Oh well, time for all you PAL land Nintendo supporting saps, go back to being treated like crap from the company you love so much.

Seriously, when Microsoft and Sony can get their games out in Europe in a timely fashion, with even more text and audio translations required, I can't see why anyone in Europe would keep giving Nintendo money.

Nintendo isn't treating people like crap, just because the games aren't released when those people want them. In fact, Europe, for example, has had a few Nintendo titles released there, first, before they were released in Japan, America, or elsewhere.

People just want to have a reason to complain. They feel they are entitled to something, and if they don't get it, when they want it, they try to obtain it illegally. Well, that's the price you pay, when you try to obtain things illegally. Sometimes those illegal ways of obtaining things are shut down.

Don't try to turn this into Nintendo vs. Sony and Microsoft crap. That's just ridiculous.

That's not true, and you know it. Wii Fit for example was released in Europe what? 3 Weeks before America? Mario Kart 2 weeks? Europe is still waiting for Super Smash Bros Brawl. That's right, its out next week. NEXT WEEK! How long have you been playing it? 13-16 weeks?

It's totally different situation, we're not just talking about little release windows which are perfectly justified if you consider the logistics of supplying Europe, or America or Japan. We're talking about games being released in one or two territories, and then, finally, Nintendo starts to actually think about making a PAL version! Odd how all other software houses, including those that publish on the Wii, get different versions out within 1-3 weeks.

When exactly did Animal Crossing come out for the gamecube? Oh yes TWO YEARS LATER than the US release. Nobody even knew if that was going to come out in Europe or not!

Nobody here bats an eyelid when we have to wait 1-3 weeks for a Sony or Microsoft game, because we know its coming and we have a release date on the schedule. We're not children, we can wait a few weeks. It's when Nintendo not only bring things over months (or sometimes years) later, but don't even have the decency to give European gamers any information when such games are likely to be published.
People just want to have a reason to complain. They feel they are entitled to something, and if they don't get it, when they want it, they try to obtain it illegally. Well, that's the price you pay, when you try to obtain things illegally. Sometimes those illegal ways of obtaining things are shut down.
And this comes from the person who posted:
It sucks that the game has been delayed, again! I guess they really want to make this the perfect game. So, I'll forgive them another delay. However, if March 9 (the new American release date), rolls around, and this game isn't out, I'm going to make my way to the head of Nintendo, and demand he give me a copy, right then and there! If he doesn't, I'll hold Mario hostage, and will not release him until I have the game!!!

OK, it was a joke, but I can still see some of the frustration you felt by reading between the lines - but how do you think PAL player felt at that time when NO RELASE DATE was even mentioned for the PAL release?

The Freeloader isn't illegal, or else it wouldn't be able to be sold in shops. You can't walk into your local chemist and buy cocaine can you? We have no Digital Millennium Copyright Act over here, so reverse engineering is allowed. Just like Amazon.co.uk openly sells Multi-region DVD players. The Freeloader, or importing games, is not illegal. While I accept Nintendo has a right to close down such exploits, do not call anyone who was using a Freeloader a criminal, and don't even date to suggest Nintendo are above European law.

What Nintendo have to understand is there would be no call for the Freeloader if they got releases over here in a timely fashion - just like their competiors do. Isn't competition supposed to benefit the customer? Not in Nintendo's world of PAL.

And I don't accept the translation argument - not when games like Microsoft's Mass Effect or Konami's Metal Gear Solid 4 can come out worldwide within a matter of days. Literally days. Both of those games have literally hours and hours of on screen text, recorded speech, subtitles and cut-scenes.
Don't try to turn this into Nintendo vs. Sony and Microsoft crap. That's just ridiculous.
Why. Why is it crap? All sony games are region free, most Microsoft ones are (and as far as I know all their first party games are). Third party Xbox releases are region encoded at the publishers discresion and its about 50/50. Only Nintendo region protects all its games. That is a fact. It is not "crap" or "ridiculous". That fact limits Nintendo owners options if they live in a PAL country.

Its probably why Nintendo think that they can get away with such shoddy treatment of Europeans too - its not as if they can go elsewhere to buy the same games (unlike Sony or Microsoft owners who have the option of importing)

Finally which console manufacturer was fined by the EU for price fixing? Region-locking is another method of Nintendo being able to set its own price, as it effectively removes competition from other territories (along with distibutors witholding supply from shops that stocked products from other European countries - illegal - as the EU is its own free market with no internal trade barriers - that's the whole point of the EU!).

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/2375967.stm

I love how Nintendo admits it broke the law, and then moans about the size of the fine calling it "illegal". How about all the millions of customers they ripped-off? How do they feel? How many millions did Nintendo make from its illegal business practices? How many honest retailers did it threaten to close down? And if Nintendo feels it can break the law with little or no concequence, why can't we import which (I repeat) isn't breaking any law?

And finally, Sony are far from perfect to with their European record (smaller HDDs, no hardware backwards compatability from the start, no PS3s on sale with any form of backwards compatability at present, and still no rumble controllers) but at least they are on the button when it comes to worldwide game releases.

WOW Brawl still isn't out in Europe yet? I haven't played it in ages, and I don't know anyone that still does, which is sad for what was said to be one of the most anticipated releases on the Wii. The game was good, but the online lag killed it for me. Like Kart, Brawl could have been better.

I'm starting to get real turned off by the Wii lately. I think Nintendo is slowly setting up for failure again at least in the "hardcore" gaming crowd. Of course the "casual" crowd and non gaming crowd thats buying the system just for Wii Sports and Wii Fit will continue to keep Nintendo at #1 this generation. But what about after the Wii?

Nintendo has released all their big titles, and now mini game collection after mini game collection is all that seems to be coming out. While Microsoft and Sony continue to release "good" titles over the summer (Ninja Gaiden 2, MGS4, Soul Calibur 4, GTA4, etc...) With Metroid, Mario, Zelda, Smash Bros, and Kart already out whats left for Nintendo? Hopefully we see another Mario, Zelda, etc... before the end of the Wii, but how about exploring other titles. Lets finally have another Kid Icarus, or other characters that have been put on the shelf for too long. The Wii has great potential, but constantly releasing titles that are no more than updates to flash games online is hurting the Wii in the "hardcore" gaming crowd. I can't count the amount of times I read that the Wii is doing nothing but collecting dust while waiting for the next must have title to come out, which is sad. Nintendo has good 1st party support, but the 3rd party is not great at all. And there are only so many titles you can put Mario and company in before it just gets old.

I know it sounds like I completely hate the Wii, but thats not true. I really do like the system, and have always been a Nintendo fan. However to me the current state of the Wii is a disappointment, compared to what it could be.

Club Nintendo has launched in North America. You can login and convert your old MyNintendo account to a Club Nintendo account. Then you can register games/systems and take surveys (very short surveys) for the registered games to earn Coins. Coins can be traded in toward Reward items. Registering your Wii or DS extends your warranty by 90 days.

Wii games are worth 50 coins.
DS games are worth 30 coins.
WiiWare/Virtual Console (I think it includes both) are worth 10 coins.

Also there are other ways to earn extra coins. There is a section to tell them you intend to buy a game, then when you get it you get 10 extra coins (Doesn't seem to be active yet.). Then something about buying a game so many days near release date gets you 10 extra coins.

Don't worry if you have already registered a bunch of Wii/DS games on the old MyNintendo site. I logged in today and had surveys for all my registered Wii/DS games, and when you do them you get Coins. I didn't see anything for my WiiWare games though.

Right now the site is a huge mess, and it is full of errors. Its also incredibly slow. I've managed to sign up and do 4 surveys at random times today. It must be the huge increase in traffic, or the site isn't fully up yet. Browsing some other forums other people are having problems with it too. It often times out and kicks you back to the login/password page.

The Rewards so far are not that great, but its the first week. There is a Game and Watch DS game for 800 Coins that looks ok.

UPDATE: All the problems are probably from too much traffic. Just got this message for the first time tonight when I tried to login to do more surveys.
Due to high traffic volumes, the sign in function may not be working properly. If you are sure your username and password are correct, please keep trying.

Since this topic is back...I just wrapped up a Wii today. My daughter is getting it for Christmas. I really wanted to get her one this year but money is so tight. One of my sister's friends had a barely used Wii for sale. $250...but it came with 2 nunchucks, an extra controller, and an extra game. All in the original boxes, so it was a good deal. I am glad I was able to get her her "dream gift" :D

Congrats! That's a good deal for a Wii. I see them once in awhile now at stores, but I'm amazed that after 2 years they still sell out.

Make sure you have plenty of batteries, or rechargeable ones. I've found the Wii goes though them very fast compared to other wireless controllers.

Oh, I am battery savvy! I bought a charger and it came with rechargeable batteries. AND something I learned as a parent very early on....Don't wait till Christmas to screw with the batteries. EVERY gift that requires batteries or charging, I open the box, install the batteries, and put the toy back in the box. If the toy no longer can go back in the packaging, I wrap it as is. Either way, it makes my Christmas mornings less stressful not having an child impatiently asking how much longer before they can play with their new toy :D Last year when she got a Pleo...they can take 4 HOURS to charge! So yeah, that sucker was charging 3 days before Christmas! She got it out of the box and was able to instantly play with it.

Oh, I also build everything that needs putting together rather than do it on Christmas morning too. Like this year, she is getting a new mouse cage for her pet mice. So when that comes in, I will spend the afternoon putting it together and then play all the new mouse toys and treats in the cage, plus for giggles, I got her a plushie Littlest Pet Shop mouse for inside the cage, and then I will wrap it up just like that. I remember the years of my parents putting stuff together and arguing over how to do it and we didn't have the batteries on another toy, etc...I learned from my parent's mistakes.

I don't have any children, but I do the samething when I give a gift. Always make sure to include batteries. :)

I remember when I was small sometimes getting a present (not from my parents) and having to wait till we got some batteries to play with it. It was a nightmare.

Okay, I've had a Wii since launch day in the US but I'm just now really starting to play it. It could have something to do with the fact that I can easily get online now that I've set up wireless.

Anyways, I just downloaded Super Mario RPG for the SNES and was looking at other games such as Castlevania II (loved it when it first came out), Super Metroid, Kid Icarus, and a few others. I also just discovered that I can download demos to my DS so I've been using that as well.

What virtual console and or Wiiware games have you downloaded and enjoyed? Which ones would you stay away from? Finally, are you upset with the pace (essentially one a week) and titles of the games currently being released. Personally, I'm waiting for Earthbound.

Earthbound has been rated, so we should get it. Who knows when we will get it though.

I've only downloaded LostWinds and Mega Man 9. LostWinds was ok at first, but I sort of regret getting it now. Mega Man 9 was a blast, and I highly recommend that if you liked the other Mega Man games on the NES.

I haven't downloaded much, but I do plan to download Secret of Mana over the holidays. This is easily one of my favorite games and I want to go though it again since my SNES is long gone. It will probably be one of the first games I test out on my wireless Nyko Wing controller.

Just a heads up in case you are not aware but ththe games you deleted you can redownload anytime and don't have to pay for them again, if you have a slow internet connetion then I would reccomend saving them to SD cards before deleting them. Either way it is a pain I just hope they decide to put out an external hard drive option.
