Yes, the original source of the film for Lilo & Stitch could be taken and placed in HD without much of a problem. However, Disney is committed to providing HD bonus features and when the original 2-disc set was made, I doubt the bonuses were filmed in HD with that technology in mind. So the compromise would be either a single disc release with the HD film and standard definition bonus features or a 2-disc set with the first disc being a Blu-Ray disc and the second disc being a DVD with all the bonus features on it, which some studios have done for their Blu-Ray releases. Personally, I'd rather wait and get the best HD edition possible.
While Disney's commitment to HD bonuses has been commendable, I can tell you now you won't get a better edition of Lilo and Stitch if they refilm the documentary in HD (assuming its not already HD friendly). I say this because the whole 2+ hours is a candid, filmed at the time, open and intimate video diary of the production and release. It's just not possible to capture that again. The documentary is actually longer if you take in all the branching side-steps too - it comes to about 3 and a half hours if I remember correctly. YES, a 3 and a half hour documentary, consisting of a 2+ hour intimate video diary, which so far has had zero publicity from Disney Home Entertainment.

It's true that some of the side-steps, deleted scenes, music videos and new content could be in HD, but the guts of the second disc simply cannot be replaced.
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database

My thoughts:
1. lol @ danfrandes. I am shocked.
2. Where's Nani on the cover?
3. Since it's the same cover as the Region 2 2-disc DVD, maybe it'll have the same exact content?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? :pink:
4. No digital copy. Give me the deleted scenes & the documentary!!!!!!

That is all.

Oh, and if it really will have the ported-over bonus features, :pink::pink::pink:

Lilo & Stitch is a new enough title, it should be no problem whatsoever prepping it for Bluray.
I don't think it's that easy to just stick the same content from DVD on a Blu-Ray and maintain the level of quality that Disney gives us with their Blu-Ray releases. Yes, the original source of the film for Lilo & Stitch could be taken and placed in HD without much of a problem. However, Disney is committed to providing HD bonus features and when the original 2-disc set was made, I doubt the bonuses were filmed in HD with that technology in mind. Personally, I'd rather wait and get the best HD edition possible.

And at this point, I believe anytime Disney does a restoration now, they do them to High Definition standards. So if they are restoring Hercules, I am expecting it to be done with HD in mind. However, I don't expect them to treat The Black Cauldron with the same amount of respect (even though I wish they would). If a re-issue of that film is in the works, I'm expecting it to be the same print from the GC version, only this time in anamorphic widescreen. It would be wonderful if they could provide a worthwhile bonus feature, but the most I'm counting on is a new game. At any rate, I would probably upgrade that one just to have the anamorphic transfer.
Well it's really quite common for Bluray's to have SD bonus features...And also, there is a chance that things like the Making Of feature were actually filmed in HD... I think though that I would rather have them release it now with just the film in HD then have to wait another 6 or 7 years for them to release it with HD bonus features as well... I would much rather have a bare bones Bluray with the film looking brilliant than wait (like we have had to with Hercules, The Black Cauldron etc...) for over 10 years and still haven't gotten a proper DVD release... Do you really want to wait 7 or 8 years to get Lilo And Stitch on Bluray ? Or would you rather have it now and have the option of upgrading in 7 or 8 years ?

Scary, isn't it?

That is scary! I just sat here for the past hour and went through some of danfrandes posts. I could not stop laughing. You have no idea how much I dreaded him. I literally received 60 e-mails once asking for scans of all the Jasmine comics that have been featured in the Disney Princess magazine. You brought back some funny memories! Thanks.

Getting back on topic, I have been waiting for this release since I first saw it advertised as an upcoming "Masterpiece Edition" on the Alice In Wonderland 2-disc DVD in 2004! I've never seen Lilo & Stitch. I've held off on seeing the film just to wait for this edition. It's only been six years!

I hope this comes to Blu-Ray. My family purchased me a Sony Blu-Ray player for the Sleeping Beauty Platinum Edition. Since then all I've been buying is Blu-Ray discs.

Heh, like we need most bonus features in HD.

I don't know if I want to see Chris Sanders 7 times better than I do now. That may be a little scar!

Hey! I've been good. I was busy with College, but I'm back now. I have so much to catch up on though. I have been visiting UD each day, so I’m not that far out of the loop. I hope all has been well!!

* Sorry for going off-topic *

I think the cover art is beautiful! One of the best for any Disney DVD! I own it on the 2-disc Region 2 dvd.

I can't wait for this release...finally!!! I only wish it was being released on Blu-ray. Something tells me that Disney is only going to release their "Platinums" and some of their direct-to-video titles on Blu-ray for the time being.

Oh my gosh... I was literally screaming when I found out this was coming.
I mean, it was so random and out of the blue.
But seriously, I can't wait! I do not have the original one, and this is finally coming.
Like someone else mentioned, Disney will probably not bring this to Blu-Ray, ever. They seem to be paying more attention to older classics, like Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, and all (not that I even have a blu-ray player).
Can't wait for this to come out!

P.S. Luke, on the main site, are you hinting that Bolt is coming out the same day? If it is... I'm gonna scream forever. lol.

This is my least favorite Disney animated film, so I will not be upgrading my single-disc DVD to the new edition. However, I'm happy that the two-disc edition is coming here to America. The optimist in me is hopeful that more two-disc re-releases could be on their way, but the realist says to wait until the Pinocchio, Bolt, and Snow White sets are available before thinking there's a paradigm shift.

A couple months ago, Disney Movie Club started offering the current 1-disc Lilo & Stitch DVD in a collectible tin...I wonder if Disney is trying to get people to double-dip or triple-dip...surely they knew when they decided on the tin set that they'd be releasing the 2-disc Special Edition soon, right?

Shouldn't you be trying to debunk this since there is no official source?

halfbreed3614's just bitter because I proved him wrong about Oliver & Co.

Obviously he didn't get the joke of mine he quoted.

Jeremy88, my thoughts on the movie are in the Lilo & Stitch Discussion thread. I don't care to drag them into this thread. I may not like it, but I respect that some people do like it or love it. After all, I love some movies that get maligned on this board, so it all washes out in the end.
