I agree . . . Actually, mostly all of the songs in TLM2 had the same or else similar beat/rhythm/whatever . . . they sounded much too alike to me. (Mainly the first song, the last song, and "For A Moment" . . . which happens to be my favorite of all of them!) Perhaps this is why I enjoyed Morgana's deleted song so much - it sounded a bit jazzy to a point, but at least it wasn't similar to the bigger slice of the songs in the film . . .

As with the off-syncness . . . It's still there. :? Why didn't they try to fix it . . . or maybe add some more features to really make this release worth while? (A featurette would have been nice . . . character bios too.)

Honestly, the TLM2 SE seems to be the only film in the TLM trilogy set that is really filled with anything interesting. GAWD, even the "flawed" Ariel's Beginning gets like three featurettes - why not for the first sequel? (Even if it is kind of a reverse of the original story when you think about it . . .)

And as for the ADELLA thing: I never really noticed that she was bigger in the first film . . . or in the series. I kinda like her thinner a la Ariel's Beginning . . . (At least she was livelier there too! The Boy-Crazy one . . . HA!)

I dont know why they decieded to just reanimate Adella and just not reanimated the entire scene since now she looks so much better then the other sisters since her animation is actually good. They should have redrawn the other sisters and possibly put in the missing ones.

And this movie could have been good if they didnt try to make it so goofy. Get rid of the new sidekicks (they just helped ruin it imo) replace them with possibly a little merboy/mermaid, or some kind of fish, make Morgana more serious, entire movie more serious, and ofcourse better animation. Oh and make Flounder look like Flounder. He is the only one in the entire film who actually aged/changed from his original appearance.

I also wish they didnt start off the time jump with Melody already knowing Sebastian (how did that happen anyway?) or any sea creatures. It would have made her undersea time a lot better imo.

I also think Disney could have made like a 2-3 season tv series off of Melody that would have been somewhat interesting. Have it explore her new life under the sea (she could spend summers as a mermaid and other times as her usual human self).

That's only if the animation were good enough. And even if it were, I'd much rather see the original TLM TV series on DVD.

The Little Mermaid II: Special Edition

Post by Disney Duster »

Uh, there's nothing wrong with TLM2 the sequel to the very big musical TLM also being a big musical...!!!!!

Also Atlantis...Tip and Dash were one of the best things about it for me. I found them truly funny, and very cute. Perhaps if they were the comic relief but the rest of the film was more serious. But of course, mots likely, Morgana was made funnier and weaker to make her different from Ursula.

Okay Alex! Well, I finally got it all straight with you! So you had to learn Hawaiin because you moved to and were living in Hawaii, of course, now I got it! Yea youre parents are pretty what the for talking in Japanese behind your back especially after making you take Japanse. But I guess your parents didn't grow up with your grandparents speaking Japanse with them either?

I'll respect you and not stalk you!

Wait TLM: AB has a different spine now in the set, a faded one with art from the front cover?

I hate Tip and Dash. They were a nice attempt at comic relief, but I didn't feel any heart from them, making them very flat and unrelatable, IMO. The way I see it, they're only helping Melody to be able to help themselves become famous superheroes or whatever. Even in the climax (which I actually really liked back then), they were still only helping her to help themselves ("now's our chance!" or whatever).

No no no. lol I was born and raised in Hawaii, and for the most part of their lives, so were my parents. I had to learn Hawaiian not because I "moved here", but because it's a Department of Education requirement. My grandparents have always spoke Japanese, as far as I know.

No, it's the same spine from the original release. I mean faded as in, it looks like the one featured on this blog. See how the bottom is that dark green and slowly fades lighter, following the design of the front cover? That's what I mean by "faded".

Yeah, I don't think they did a great job with the music (in this sequel or AB). The beginning and end of Return to the Sea are the best songs to me though. I liked the royal music that preceded Triton rising out of the water, in particular. Athena and Marina's songs are the only ones I liked in Ariel's Beginning. :P

Well, in the new release, Adella has been reanimated into a more attractive, thinner version, a'la Ariel's Beginning.

I don't have a screen cap of the new one.
Oow, can someone post that? I'd like to see that.

It really sucks that this edition isn't released here! :x ~
We only have the old edition.

The screencap posted from the original release is a panning shot, so I tried to match it up by what was in the background versus the 4 sisters, since it would appear that actually both Adella and Aquata have been reanimated to be more on model with their appearance in Ariel's Beginning. Here is the screenshot from the 2000 release:

Image

And here is the same shot from the 2008 release:
<a href="http://s16.photobucket.com/albums/b45/a ... 329223.png" target="_blank"><img src="http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b45/a ... 329223.png" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

You can also see that some image has been removed from the top and bottom of the frame, which has been previously mentioned in this thread.

Perhaps this is to promote a more health-concious Disney!

I like how they even re-did the bras to look more seashell-ish.

I just didnt like the songs at the beginning and end, its not how I would have liked to be introduced to the story or end the story. If the songs were better and shorter then I probably wouldnt have had a big problem with it. Some of the songs in TLM2 just seemed to be put in there just for the sake of having songs whereas TLM songs seemed natural, were entertaining and some were deep.

Tip and Dash sadly did nothing for me, they just annoyed me and took up unnessecary screen time imo. I dont think we needed to dedicate 5 or so minutes introducing them alone as wannabe heroes. We could have been introduced to two other side kicks or merkids who interact with Melody.

I want the tv series on dvd aswell but they still could have made another animated series focused on Melody to introduce a new generation to and expand on the mermaid franchise.

I took a look at those scenes, Gumby17 and you are right. I really wish I hadn't sold my 2000 release a month ago to pay for the upgrade.

Does anybody know if Disney has ever done this with their DTV animated films before? I know they changed some things with the DVD releases of The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin and The Lion King, but I didn't think they cared enough about the integrity of the DTV films to spend money redoing scenes that were off-model.

Yeah, I've never heard of them fixing DTVs before. Surprises me they would - maybe they do care a little about the integrity of characters after all. If not, they could have done an exact copy and no one would have said too much.

Now I wonder if they've done it to any other DTV, also.

I dont think any other dtv sequel had as many problems animation wise as LM2 did.

I've always heard it was the ugliest animation-wise of the DTV films.

I would disagree and say that both Aladdin sequels, both Beauty and the Beast sequels, and Pocahontas II all had many more problems with characters staying on model than Return to the Sea had and currently has (after these changes).

At any rate, here are both screencaps of the same scenes posted by gumby17, but from the 2008 DVD:

While Ariels return as a mermaid looks better the 2nd time around, the one with her and Morgana still doesnt look that great. Morganas face is just to flat and Ariel looks odd and evil.

Does anyone have pics of the lithographs or can describe them? Are they reprints of the DVD covers?

Does anyone also have the Peterpan/Tinkerbell collection? I thought I saw some type of think white cardboard crammed into the sides.. Did they also come with some type of lithograph?
Thanks
