Why are the Treasures DVD's limited editions (hard to get)

Post by chargin »

I would buy mabey the whole set if they were still available new but Amazon.com only have 1 title in stock and I dont want to pay collectors prices, why havent disney released standard plastic case DVD's of Mickey, goofey etc surely they are missing out on sales? I guess it makes the tinned sets even more collectable but also unobtainable to some of us. Im in Australia and am awaiting the local release of "disney treasures Vol 1 &2" on the 7th of may, Im not sure of whats on these discs or if they are even actually being released still, all I know is local DVD retailers are taking orders. Is the USA getting a release like this soon too? These are $34 here wich would be about $20 USD, very affordable compared to $90 USD on Ebay for mickey in colour.

BestBuy.com still has the Silly Symphonies tin available for purchase for $29.99. I bought one from them about a month ago, and it shipped out very quickly with free shipping. It sells for more than that on Ebay, so I though I would let you guys know.

Yeah I think I saw you post this on the old forum, I jumped onto best buy but they didnt have more than 1 or 2 titles so I didnt order. This just seems crazy to me, the demand is there why dont Disney fill it?

^^^ probably because after a while, the dvd's will just sit and wait for an occasional purchase. If the general market knows that the dvd will be out of print it would make the rush much greater, meaning peole are more likely to go to the store and buy it the first week or so. Or really quick. Then after many years, they will release them again and demand will be high.

thats what i think. it's all marketing!

Except for Mickey Mouse: In Living Color, all it takes is a little searching. Like "A Doug's Life" mentioned, Best Buy still has Silly Symphonies & usually have Davy Crockett in stock. I ordered both about a month ago through Best Buy & received them very quick & in dent-free condition. Disneyland U.S.A. is still floating around some retailers too.

Your local Wal-Mart is another good place to check. Our local WM had all 3 of the 2nd wave Walt Disney Treasures & Disneyland U.S.A. just a month ago. Many Disney Stores still have all Wave 2 WDT's too. The Wherehouse is a good place to check in on for MMILC also. You might just hit it lucky & find a used one :)

I know this may sound strange, but when I recieved my disney movie club monthly packet in the mail a few days ago, I saw the treasures in them (minus MMILC). From what I have heard on here, nobody can get them from DMC now. Must be a fluke.

I have 5 of the 7 sets. I was lucky to get Silly Symphones and Mickey Color at Best Buy in November 2002 (11 months after release). I bought all of Wave 2 as soon as it was available.

If some money magically falls out of the sky, I can still buy the other 2 sets at DVD Universe, though they do not spark my interest as much as the 5 animation sets.
