oh wow they put effort into the packaging again just like they did for the earlier DVD releases...go Disney!
Yeah I have a Wii and a Playstation 3, but things on PS3 I like too:
Uncharted
Resident Evil
and other games that simply aren't on NIntedo's console
I dunno I just thought it was a good deal!
Plus you can store videos, pictures, and music on it!

Yeah, I'm not really into fighting games, otherwise I would have definitely gotten a PS3. I do enjoy Harry Potter though, but I still have the Wii. It just wasn't worth the extra money for me I guess. I love N64 games and Gamecube games though.CampbellzSoup wrote:oh wow they put effort into the packaging again just like they did for the earlier DVD releases...go Disney!

Sleeping Beauty: Platinum Edition
I like seeing Fauna with a lot of brown, or brownish and yellowish colors. It's like animal fur. She's related to animals, her name literally means animals, and the only green animals in the film are birds, hence I'm okay with her green cape, hat, and wings. I guess she could be all green like an all green bird, but... I just looked up what color a nightingale is...mostly brown, but with some red and white/gray. Huh.
Flora's red like roses, and as for the gold, well, there's flowers that look gold. I just figure gold has to do with beauty. Merryweather's the sky, so she's blue.
But I'm not okay with Maleficent's fire. With the brighter flames, the transparency is almost all gone in the yellow parts. I think seeing the background through the yellow flames would be in line with seeing more, aye?
To see what I mean, look mainly at Maleficent's cape on the floor, and the yellow flames on it.

But I'll wait for the DVD or Blu-ray in my own home!

I get where you're coming from, but from a personal perspective, if you collect the platinum editions (or Disney DVDs in general), I'd ask for the Blu-Ray for your birthday or Christmas maybe, so that you have it when you eventually get the player. That way when it "goes into the vault", you have one.Ariel'sprince wrote:Just the Blu-Ray? this sucksthey should have it for both editions.
I"ll buy the DVD because isn't it better then getting one DVD disc and the Blu-Ray edition since I don't have a Blu-Ray player and I think there will be very long time until I"ll have one.

I've made a vow to myself that I won't start collecting Blu-Ray, otherwise I'll just be re-updating my collection and double dipping for the 3rd or 4th time. That's why I really hope they don't phase DVDs out for Blu-Ray when it comes to releases I don't have like Fantasia, Fantasia 200 and Snow White. Please don't do that to me Disney

I really don't see DVD being phased out that quickly. Blu-Ray is picking up speed, but not at that quick of a speed. DVD caught on so quickly because it was such a drastic improvement over VHS. However, Blu-Ray is not that much of an upgrade from DVD.Nick Bryant wrote:I've made a vow to myself that I won't start collecting Blu-Ray, otherwise I'll just be re-updating my collection and double dipping for the 3rd or 4th time. After the 101 Dalmatians DVD i had completed my collection of all the DAC's and their sequels. I decided that Sleeping Beauty will be my first blu-ray to start my new Disney Blu-ray collection. I know that if i don't start with SB now, i'll probably regret it in the future (Since i want to have the best presentation of every movie i have). With that thought, the DVD will also be my last Disney DVD purchase unless I don't have the option between DVD and Blu-ray. I'm getting both SB editions just because I'm crazy like that.

I know, that's another reason as to why I don't want to upgrade my entire collection. Blu-Ray's not all that drastic from DVDs, other then the fact that they are HD. If I was to upgrade, I'd want something dramatically different like DVD was to VHS. Besides, I seriously need to draw a line and say enough is enough because otherwise I'm just going to continue upgrading my collection with the latest and greatest formats. Okay, so Blu-Ray offers pristine quality at the moment but like the rest, it'll soon be replaced with something better and after that the same thing will happen and so on. Technology is constantly evolving and if I keep collecting in these recurring cycles I'm just gonna end up collecting for life and I really don't see the point in that. Once I have finished my DVD collection, I'm going to call it a day.Simba3 wrote:I really don't see DVD being phased out that quickly. Blu-Ray is picking up speed, but not at that quick of a speed. The ZonaDVD caps have too much JPEG compression to provide a real representation of the BD's quality. But they do give a general impression, I agree.
I'm getting incredibly anxious to see Sleeping Beauty on Blu-ray!! Unfortunately Disney is being flaky with its screener copies - everyone I've spoken with hasn't received them yet. >_< If worst comes to worst, I'll just buy a copy next Tuesday along with everyone else.

Sleeping Beauty - Blu-ray VS DVD Platinum Screen Captures
Just a link to DVD Beaver's review of Sleeping Beauty where it compares screen captures of the Platinum Blu to the Platinum DVD.

Thanks for this post!!!
I actually like the dvd screenshots much more!
They are darker, more mysterious and much more realistic.
I like that they aren't overly sharp, just perfect.
The Blu-ray screenshots are way too sharp for my taste, wich makes the movie look childish, flat and like a computer game.
Almost sequel-like.
I'll definitely stick to the dvd.
Does anyone know why there is so much difference in shades? For example the wall behind Flora when she's trying to keep the king's eyes open, or the sky in the shot with Meleficent's castle and the bridge.
I think a little darker (like the dvd) fits the movie much more.
It also seems that the colors (black and orange for example) are much deeper on the dvd.
And the sharpness, the look and the lines on the dvd really look like the classic that I know and love. No Blu-ray Sleeping Beauty for me.
The difference in the one with the bird is stunning.
The dvd looks like a classic. The BD looks like a sequel.

Sleeping Blu-ray vs. DVD
Thanks for the post MattDean!
You're right Marky, the colors seem to be different between the two!
I like the bluer looking Hubert in the DVD, but the redder looking Flora in the Blu-ray. She looks more orange in the DVD.
I guess the DVD does look darker, but that's probably because it's slightly compressed and less clear. I know it looks less dark, but I really think the Blu-ray is probably truer to what looking at the actual art is like, but it's all about what you want to watch!

They both look fine to me. There are differences between the two, but they are small. No reason to make a fuss about either one (which was different for the previous platinum editions). I'm also glad we finally get a PE that's packed with bonus material. It looks to be on par with Snow White, and that's about the only Platinum I can say that about (okay, maybe Beauty and the Beast). I really hope Disney continues in this fashion.
One very minor gripe, I would really like to see a comparison with the previous special edition of Sleeping Beauty added. I have no doubt the new one will blow it away, but I'm still curious.

Um, I know the differences are subtle, but there are differences, and thus enough to "make a fuss over it".KubrickFan wrote:They both look fine to me. I noticed that in the Blu-Ray colors are brighter, lines and sharper and details are more striking. Again, this is big enough to convince anyone.
