About Marina - I think that in time, she wanted to become queen.

In the reprise of her song she sings 'I'm the new attachee but I want more!'

More power = queen Marina. Or something.

Something about Benjamin being sent to wake up Ariel's sisters seems she got more power in the kingdom then it seems,if she wanted to kill Ariel and Sebastian, then maybe later she whould have killed Triton and became the queen of Atlantica and she might whould have killed Ariel's sisters too.

The review pointed out something I couldn't put my finger on about the art...little to no bubbles.

As much as I actually enjoyed TLM:AB, I kinda agree with a lot of the things mentioned in that last review . . . .

For one thing, "Ariel's Beginning" wasn't really necessary at all for the series, but the writers could have at least make a more original tale about how Ariel's fascination with humans came to be. (I'd agree to see that . . . or did the TV series answer that question?)

Another thing I noticed when I rewatched the film (also while capping it, which I'm still working on) is that it seems that with music banned, the topic of speaking about Athena is banned also . . . (Remember the sisters' reactions when Ariel spoke about how she first felt when she went to the Catfish Club (". . like when Mom was here . . .")? This was repeated again when Triton laid down the punishment on the girls - when Ariel asked him why music was forbidden, he didn't want to talk about it . . . and when Ariel spoke out back to him ("I may not remember much about my mother, but I know that she wouldn't have wanted this . . ." or something like that), both Triton and her sisters took that comment hard.)

I thought that was rather . . . interesting to point out. Did anyone else notice this?

But yeah, I still think this was a good film, despite all the missing aspects that we would have loved to see in a TLM prequel. (*cough . . . needs Ursula, darn it . . . cough*)

The Spanish DVD will have a music video for "Part of your World" in Spanish.

My word, that was a scathing review. I cannot comment on it, as I have not seen the film yet, but that review was awful; BUT is was the only really bad review I have seen as well ... so that is a positive.

I get the feeling, the reviewer was not a little mermaid fan; they didnt say anything nice about the original film either! AND they didnt like the Broadway show AND they didnt think the little mermaid was 'robust' like Aladdin and the lion King. Never heard such garbage :x

I love the original TLM. I am not impressed by this sequel or TLM on Broadway. Just because someone doesn't like the new stuff doesn't mean they MUST hate the old stuff. This was a review on TLM3. Not TLM1. Just because they didn't mention whether they like TLM1 or not doesn't automatically mean they hate it. I think the review is FAR more thought out than some of the stuff I've seen on not just this movie, but others. When people see something sparkly, they only focus on the shiny stuff and don't bother to look a little deeper to see the crap it really is.

For instance, I LOVE the Mummy movies. This new one, I hated it. I was so disappointed. As much as critics panned Mummy Returns, I found it very entertaining and at times, better than the first, but the first overall was still better. But this new one, killed me watching it. I had to watch the original after to love the series again. Just because someone hates the sequel with passion, doesn't mean they hate the original.

I noticed that too. After a third watching (well, second on DVD) I did notice more bubbles though. Just.... not enough.

Yes, compared to TLM1, it only has a fraction of bubbles. Not saying it as a complaint, more an observation. Considering their budget, they simply didn't have the time for that sort of detail. And instead made up for it in other details, like the dramatic movements of Ariel's hair was I still think was cool

Well, I got the impresssion they did not really care for The Little Mermaid original movie. That is just what I took from the review.

It's funny how they think it was a bit of a bad thing that you couldnt recoginse Sally Field, but Jodi thinks thats a plus point !

I really agree with you,the film is great, not cheap and horrible like Return To The Sea.
bruno_wbt-Thanks for the clips :D but the clip seems only to be about the original Little Mermaid,it doesn't really have anything to do with Ariel's Beginning exept the backgrounds they"re walking in and the logo in the beginning,I like it,it's better then the Cinderella III clip.
Siren-They should have been more bubbles but it's okay actually, thought when you"re underwater and not close to the surface there are no bubbles when you swim.
Oh,and why Part Of Your World was in the credits?.

Granted, the fact that we only have seen ONE really bad review of TLM3...consider yourselves lucky.

but I suspect half the audience, if they’re not taken in by the scene-stealing aquatic life (can’t have those kids getting bored in the ballads, right?), over-cutting or the hysterical, hyper-operatics of a strangely over-performing Jodi Benson, will be thinking “I remember” this the first time around when it was much more subtle and effective.
The Mermaid franchise has never been as robust as an Aladdin or Lion Kingcould it be, with Ariel’s Beginning and this new show, that they’ve now bled the brand dry?
Well, I don't think I need to explain why I took this review with a grain of salt.

The only thing I agreed with is how the sisters became "LA brats."

Now I really hate this review :x.
Her voice is beautiful and I Remember is an amazing song, her voice, for exmaple,is the main reason why I like the songs in Thumbelina, otherwise I don't like that movie.
She's amazing and don't deserve this insult at all :x.

Don't shoot me, but I actually agree with every point Ben makes in his review at Animated Views. This film had so much potential. It's too bad they didn't use it... The animation is -overall- pretty nice though! Sadly that's about the only thing positive I have to say about this Little Mermaid Franchise ruïner. Sorry for all the LM fans, and I guess tastes really do differ (or maybe some will defend the franchise till death? :P).

Damn right! :D

I would have thought that Ursula would have been in it due to the fact that she lived in the castle until Triton banished her. I suppose then she would not have been AS evil like she was in the first movie, although they could have used her as the antagonist, doing loads of evil stuff, then getting banished at the end, ok now I;m rabbling about Ursula

Anything to have seen Flotsam and Fetsam as little baby eels :D
Did I use some black magic?
Well oopsie - my bad!
Did I mutilate, maim and destroy
Just A tad!

I don't think that's necessarily true. It would be fine with me if Return to the Sea never existed. I don't consider it and Ariel's Beginning even near the same level. AB can work in the continuity (for me)--RttS is a bit too stupid. Though RttS is so-so if you watch it completely outside of the franchise (and don't even think of the characters from the original and the characters from the sequel the same).

I agree DD... I don't think the fans are really blind to the flaws. Of course they're more apt to like the film because it's TLM, but you can find plenty of UD member reviews around here, who, once they had seen the film, pointed out what they disliked, even though they're not as scathing as the AN review (who's opinion I COMPLETELY respect. To each his own), they don't pretend not to notice the flaws. Otherwise, I guarentee LAF would be littered with Melody threads.

You know... a lot of fans don't care for the musical or series either... Myself included.

I've yet to see this film, so I can't post a review just yet. I still think I'll enjoy it.

I know I'm not . . . I saw a few flaws, but to me, it wasn't enough for me to say that AB sucks. (Which it doesn't . . . IMO) True, it had potential to be something better, but it lacked something despite the much-improved animation from its original sequel, "Return to the Sea" (which still had a rather predictable plot and horrid animation, I still enjoyed it nonetheless . . . with exception of Tip and Dash . . . *shutters* GAH.).

But yes - to each his/her own . . . (The musical sounds interesting, but based on the featurette . . . I dunno. I prefer the TV series over that right about now . . .)
