Hanging Up - I really have no idea why this was in the Comedy section at the video store. It was definitly more drama than anything. Anyway, Meg, Lisa, and Diane shined throughout! B - from me.

The Bucket List

Star vehicle for Freeman and Nicholson, but turned out to be a pretty good movie. The script was okay and what those two made of it was great work. I even shed some tears at the end.

Stardust

A very entertaining fantasy movie with some humor and good special effects. It also boasts a few top-actors like Peter O'Toole (though he only appears shortly), Claire Danes, Robert de Niro as the queer captain Shakespeare (in a flying ship)and Michelle Pfeiffer as a delightfully wicked witch.

Forgot to post this, but yesterday I watched "Son of Flubber". I don't recall ever having really sat down and watched this one before. It was pretty enjoyable for the most part, though heavy on the husband/wife trouble stuff (that's what ruined the second new Zorro flick for me, though at least this was a comedy totally). I'm a big fan of the original Shaggy Dog, so this was a treat because of the similarities. Loved all the different Disney actors in it too! It definitely has made me want to go out and try to find Absent Minded Professor somewhere, which I haven't seen in so long I don't remember in detail.

The Notebook

I had never seen it before, but I loved it. It really was a sweet movie. It was great seeing James Garner in it, too. This movie really reminded me of "One Special Night", but as if the Catherine Howard character never came into the picture... I'm thinking about picking it up some time.

My Blue Heaven (1950) with Betty Grable & Dan Dailey. The film was so-so but I'm not really a Dan Dailey fan. Betty looked gorgeous, of course and there's a fun take off of South Pacific in it which was MAMMOTH on B'way at the time. Also it was Mitzi Gaynor's film debut and who knew 8 years later she'd be the movies' NELLIE FORBUSH! (I would have wanted to see Doris Day in the role!)

Last night I saw Fox and the Hound 2 for the first time. I was pleasantly surprised. It was well animated and interesting. Of course, it's kiddie compared to the original, but I really feel people look at these direct to video sequels the wrong way. They believe they should be at the same level of their bigscreen originals. I don't get that when they are not being released to the big screen (though, I was annoyed with the below par stuff they DID release to the bigscreen, like Jungle Book 2). I feel they should be kept at the nice quality level, and more often than not they didn't do that, which is too bad, but it's ridiculous to expect the same quality. Still, I don't see why people can't enjoy the good ones for what they are, cute new stories with characters we know and love. For me, it's like reading a Little Golden Book or comic about the characters. It doesn't have to be something grand, but it should be good, and some of them were. Now, if it was coming out on the big screen, my expectations would be higher.

Final Fantasy Advent Children. GREAT movie. Might be a little confusing to those who haven't followed Final Fantasy.

Grave of the Fireflies. GREAT Studio Ghibli film. Makes me cry every time I see it.

The Craft; a very nice movie.

...but is one of those movies I overlook a LOT. Just watch it once every while.

Prbably the intensity of it.

...it starts nice and slow but then the tension slowly increases and doesn't stop till the end.

Jaws; it has all. Suspense, horror, exposition, character development...

I just came here to post that I watched it last night and LOVED IT!!!! I really liked the story, and the music is wonderful!!!!

Last night I saw Sydney White and Shutter. Shutter was just okay, but it was better than all the Americanized Japanese horror flicks I'd seen since The Ring. Sydney White was really cute and had some neat interpretations of the Snow White fairytale. I definitely want to get it. I adore Amanda Bynes, though I have to say, she is normally much prettier. They dyed her hair to where it looked like a wig and it totally didn't go with the tan she had, which looked like it might even have been a fake tan. I don't get why they have a girl tan up to play a Snow White character.

State Fair (1945). Not a GREAT movie, IMO, but the R&H score is wonderful and it's much better than the 1962 Pat Boone/Ann-Margret remake.

Now that the Olympics are winding down, I'm back to watching DVDs. This weekend I watched Home on the Range, The Emperor's New Groove, and Summer Magic. The last two I saw for the first time as I just bought the DVDs. Though not my top Disney favorites, they were still enjoyable. My favorite of the three was Summer Magic. I guess I just like a good, old-fashioned Disney live action film.
