Sleeping Beauty Confirmed for DVD AND BLU-RAY in 2008 !!!
restoration clips
Hi from Italy!
Very beautiful the screenshots, since I've seen many times the film in theaters here in Italy I assure that the colors are more similar to the film than in the previous dvd. Especially the RED is a real RED and not an orange like it seemed before. The color of the hair of Briar Rose is now more similar to a cel setup that was printed in the famous book "The art of animation" by Bob Thomas. For those of you who have this book is the figure on page 57. What a pity no clips are available for people outside the US!

It shows just the new music video by Emily Osment (Gosh, who the fuck is Emily Osment?)
BTW, I can't remember on my german DVD of 2003 was a music video. Is it just on the R1-DVD?
EDIT: The new music-clip has nothing to do with the original melody. It's imao a complete different song o_O
EDIT2: Gosh, the older remix of the song is even more terrible than the new one...

I updated my other screencap post so that the 2003 SE caps had a normal color balance:

The new comparison definitely makes a difference. The PE version looks so much nicer in comparison. A lot warmer it seems, and somehow it adds a little (or rather a lot) of depth.
I just hope they don't ruin my favorite scene - the Once Upon a Dream sequence. The SE caps look as if evening is creeping in, making it more dreamlike. The new (brighter) one makes more sense (it is the morning, after all), but it loses that romantic edge (imo).
I'm taking it you don't watch Hannah Montana. She plays the (easily) best written characterScamander wrote:It shows just the new music video by Emily Osment (Gosh, who the fuck is Emily Osment?)

Re: Sleeping Beauty: Platinum Edition
Okay Flam-Ham, maybe that explains it. They said it looked like it should for what they could do with it back then...and now, it's even better. Maybe Floyd Norman can say if the film looks correct or not, now.
Disneykid, your screencap posts seemed to mess up, at least for me. Some pictures aren't next to the right other pictures, and some of the old saturated color ones are still there. Maybe it's only my computer?
Marky, yes the U.S. DVD has a featurette on the restoration, which I believe was taken from the laserdisc before, so let me check it... Okay. Well, first they fixed a flickering problem. Then, they rotoscoped the characters and I guess digitally removed them from the backgrounds, and dust-busted the backgrounds (like, removed dirt and dust), and put the characters back in. They actually did paint the characters, but from what I watched, it looked like they only took the same color that one part was, and maybe used it to color over dirt they couldn't get rid of. At the end, it said the restoration was able to bring out original colors and textures better than 1959 film technology permitted for the premiere release.
So, that kind of thing must be what they mean by going "beyond the original brilliance", and if it looks a little different from the time it premiered, that's would be what they were aiming for. "Better" than they way it first looked.
Yea, well, as long as they make sure it's how the original artists wanted it to look, not how they think it should look.
Also, as for Disneykid's screencaps, the next ones that make Aurora's hair darker instead of lighter and orange and all that, were taken from a different video. The internet is not reliable. We will have to wait for the DVD and Blu-ray.
By the way, was your first VHS, the one you like, the same one as the first pictures in this thread?:
Sleeping Beauty 3 release comparison
Because it looks a lot like the new restoration. I loved the way my first Cinderella VHS looked, and I hope if they restore it again, it looks like that one! The one I fell in love with.
Scamander, I do like that cover. Basically, if they just re-drew the entire thing, figured out what to do with Maleficent's eyes, and the magic swirl from the fairies...it would look fantastic.

But what about:Flanger-Hanger wrote:Looks like the soundtrack is the same as the old one which I already have. Wish they would have included the unused song demos.
She sang that in the original soundtrack.Awakening - Mary Costa
It's better then Pop versions of songs like The Little Mermaid PE soundtrack.

I'm confused, are you saying that's a bonus track? It's the music from the scene where Aurora, well, awakens.Ariel'sprince wrote:But what about:Awakening - Mary Costa

Great. Another classic song butchered by untalented 12-year old girls who can't sing and actually put shame on the Walt Disney era. When will Disney learn?Old Fish Tale wrote:New clip! Click here!

Re: Sleeping Beauty: Platinum Edition
My laptop is widescreen, so I'm assuming people with 4x3 monitors will see my screencaps on top of each other instead of side by side, something I didn't really consider. As for the colors, my adjustment of the color balance only changed certain ones. Others (like Aurora looking at the castle from "I Wonder") look almost exactly the same. So either way, the 2003 DVD seems to be oversaturated, even if it's not as radical as my old caps. It's also possible that your cache still has my old caps in it and is presenting it as such. Try refreshing the page.Disney Duster wrote:Disneykid, your screencap posts seemed to mess up, at least for me.
