I hate them because they are tree-killing DVD condoms. Honestly, it's just a repetitive piece of cardboard that uselessly repeats the cover art. And all the "fans" love them because they're under the delusion that a flimsy piece of paper will protect the case (there's such a thing as good DVD maintenance, and they obviously don't know about it as they rely on the stupid slipcover to do all the protecting). Not to mention the godawful fawnings over stuff like "ooh, it's metallic/embossed/opens like a book/scratch-and-sniff/plays a song!"
Seriously, the damn thing is the bane of DVD's existence, as there are idiots out there who'll pass on buying a perfectly good movie at a perfectly good price, because they can't find it with a slipcover.
