Thanks for the infromation from the Disney store,Atlantica :D did they said that the Ariel and Her Sisters stuff will get world wide? did he said when Enchanted Tales with Cinderella and Mulan will be out? and when you"ll get the new Sleeping Beauty merchandise (Disney said that they"re going to make a lot of Aurora stuff) and the Jewels Look Princess stuff for the Sleeping Beauty PE?.
I"m glad Ariel's Beginning will get a lot of attention and Ariel herself :D I knew they won't stop making more Cinderella stuff-She's the franchise's icon after all,I"m glad she will get more stuff :D.

Is she really? Wow, I never would have guessed that.

I would assume Aurora would be most popular in Europe, along with Belle.

The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Beginning

Post by Disney Duster »

From looking at Japanese stuff, I would have guessed Ariel was the most popular there, too.

I really think Ariel is the most popular Disney princess ever, and I wouldn't doubt that was for every country, too. Then Cinderella's second. But that's just what I think, and feel pretty confidant in. Even Japan has shown lots of Cinderella love.

Ariel has massive popularity, yes, but Cinderella is probably regarded as the quintisential (sp?) Disney Princess. But what Ariel has I think is deep love and affection from a wide variety of people. I mean, she is regarded as the most 'hot' out of the Princesses (see American Pie, Cheers etc), and she sparked the love that people used to have for Disney all over again. Most of my friends have Ariel and The Little Mermaid as their favourite Disney movie, and we are all around the 18/19/20 ages. I mean, even Amy Adams has said that she was the geek in high school singing The Little Mermaid music down the corridoors, and pretending she was Ariel. People just love her! :)

I have a friend from Japan, and she always brings me back something TLM, as it is massively popular over there.

I wasnt entirely sure who was the most popular over here, but after what the Disney Store said, I guess it must be Ariel. It makes sense though if you think about it; her show is on the Disney Channel every day, her DVD is redily availible, TLM2 is also availible and its suometimes on TV, as well as her new movie being advertised on almost every new Disney DVD. It makes sense at the moment that she would be the most popular.

Well, after the DVD release, I think it became fairly obvious Ariel is the most famous Disney Princess. I contribute most of that due to the fact that people from their 30s through their teens grew up with her. I do wonder who will take her place.

Disney themselves even announced that Ariel was the #1 Princess, because on her Platinum Edition DVD site, the texts says, 'Starring Your Favourite Disney Princess'. I think Cinderella's site says 'Starring one Of Your Favourite Princesses' or something like that.

Here DVD was teh most requested as well :D

I think one of the main reasons Ariel is so popular, is the fact that she reminds everyone of the summer holidays. I mean who doesn't like beautiful beaches, water-fun-parks or the sea in general? Ariel actually is the incarnation of every bored, depressed and tired student/employee's dream; a dive into the blue waters of a beautiful island.
Plus, as many here said, she is hot. Not only because of the shell-bra; she's the only one with long, red hair - the hotness! And of course she's a mythical creature which as a fact makes her much more fascinating than any other common human heroine.

Oh man, I can imagine the headlines...

"SCANDAL AT THE MAGIC KINGDOM!

Bitter rivalry between princesses ends in tragedy

Orlando, FL: The Disney Princesses, Disney most popular female leads, have been a staple in pop culture thanks to an ingenious idea hatched by the Mouse corporation in the year 2000. The plan was to group all of their famous fantasy leads (consisting of Snow White, Cinderella, Princess Aurora aka "Sleeping Beauty", Ariel "The Little Mermaid", Belle from 'Beauty and the Beast' and Princess Jasmine from 'Aladdin") and sell them as magical items for girls. Everything from dolls and dresses to events at the Disney theme parks and direct to video movies, there wasn't an item that didn't feature the iconic characters.

But little did the public know that this sparked a terrible rivalry between the princesses, a fact that was kept secret till now.

During one of Walt Disney World's many parades the princesses were happily marching much to the delight of families from all over the world. But one particular princess sparked the most attention. That girl was Ariel.

While the parade marched on little girls, and even some adult men, kept shouting compliments and terms of affection towards the once mermaid princess.

"Ariel you are beautiful!"- a 10 year old girl shouted
"You are the best, Ariel!" - another one screamed

Ariel was well aware of this, but instead of behaving prim and proper she started dancing around, enjoying her moment of glory.

This annoyed the other princesses, with Cinderella being the most annoyed of them all.

"We made a promise that no matter who ends up being the most beloved princess we would all be friends and behave like the ladies that we are'- Cinderella, a former maid in her own household, told the newspapers.

"But Ariel kept ragging about it. No matter how much we begged her to not let this get to her head she still saw herself as queen of the world. You know how in the movie she was very stubborn and ignored what her father told her? Its much worse than that, and I'm afraid one day it will NOT lead to a happy ending"

The smile disappeared from Cinderella's face as she saw Ariel strut around, enjoying the public acclaim. Some people in the audience noticed the change of attitude in Cinderella. She became another person. She walked to Ariel, turned her around and gave her a good talking during an ongoing parade.

"It was too loud to hear, but it was clear Cinders was mad as all hell!" - a mother explained to this reporter.

The dressing down would be cut short. Ariel lifted her hand up in the air and slapped Cinderella. The sound of the slapped stopped the event cold. Then it lead to the mother of all fights between the two princesses.

'The scene was a horrible one'- an anonymous parade official said. "The children began to cry uncontrollably. They were seeing their favorite characters fight each other! Other people, mostly teenage boys, were enjoying it and started throwing garbage at them in order to encourage the fight even further".

The other princesses tried their best to stop the fight, but their best efforts went ignored.

Minutes later the park's security officers stop the ensuing mayhem in both the princesses and the park attendees, going as far as to threaten to use brute force if this continued any further.

By the end of it all, both princesses were very harmed, Ariel receiving the worst of it all.

The Disney officials had no comment on the events that occurred at the park. However, rumors say that they are heavily discussing the fate of the princesses.

"This tragic incident has put a dent on the princess name"- Belle told to the press. 'Granted, we are all still friends and support each other till the very end, but their fates rest in the hands of the officials. Its something we princesses have no power over"

Even with this royal cat fight sales of the Disney Princess merchandise remain stronger than ever."

Or something like that...

In time...

P.S. You have really good writing skills! I enjoyed reading that. :)

Since we're on the topic of Princess rivalry, do you remember that quack job who made the topic asking which Princess the UD Community thought had the bigger fanbase? And he forgot Jasmine! Man, am I glad he's gone.

Thanks for the compliments, UmbrellaFish! :D I aspire to be a writer and publish my stories someday...

But going back to the Ariel discussion, there is one thing that hasn't been mentioned yet as to why Ariel is so popular; her theme song "Part of your world".

Simply put, the song is extraordinary. The other princesses have great songs, too, but it would be foolish to deny that "Part of your world" is the most powerful of them all and resonates with people the most.

Humans, especially little children, yearn to be part of something greater, to belong and be accepted by others and most importantly, be loved. Ariel's song is a perfect representation of those desires. Long before she met Eric Ariel was fascinated by the world above, but was chained down by both the fact that she is a creature non-existent in the real world and her father's well intended but exaggerated discipline. The scene in which she sings "Part of your world" while dancing around her trinkets shows us what her true desire is and can only live it through stuff she finds sunken in the sea.

In a way, we are all like Ariel. We all have desires or dreams that are bolted down by reality, and the song perfectly captures that lament.

Its true that the other princesses have dreams that are expressed through song, but none are as well realized as "Part of your world".

So this aspect might also add to Ariel's popularity; She's the modern representation of the dream of a better life where our aspirations are realized despite the consequences.

The only thing that's repeatedly bothered me about that is how it's labeled "Part of Your World," even though she doesn't mention 'your' in the song at all. Unless it's supposed to mean 'your' as in 'us' the listener. Still, that just irritates me, almost as much as Ursula's merchandise inconsistencies.

Anyway, pap64 basically says a lot about why I like TLM (though there's certainly more), even though Ariel isn't one of my favorite Disney characters in general. It's the theme, more than the character, that makes the movie a classic to me.

Just imagine how poignant the song would have been had they kept the original Hans Christian Anderson ending...

Explain further, how would it be more poignant with that? Going further on what you said about the song, little girls dress up in and get their parents to buy lots of princess merchandise, but they really want to be a Disney princess in their magical worlds. I think a lot of them even think they could be real. I know I did for a long time...and still do.

Aurora was choosen with Stitch,Simba,Buzz Lightyear,Pooh and maybe also Tigger as the most popular Disney Characters in Japan,so I guess Ariel and Aurora are the most popular Princesses in Japan.
Jasmine is popular somewhere?.
atlanticaunderthesea-You didn't told me about Sleeping Beauty and when Enchanted Tales with Cinderella and Mulan will be out.
Your story is funny,Pap64 .
I"m so glad that Ariel is so popular :D.
