(Off) Broadway Theatrical Productions That You've Seen

i might be able to catch the touring version of Wicked when it comes to Dallas next month. i almost caught it a couple years ago but we left before the show would start which was 8 at night. this was at the state fair grounds. i have the soundtrack and i love all the song except for Wonderful and thank goodness. and good news to people who live in other countrys because Wicked is going to more countrys. Wicked: Die Hexen Von Oz is comeing to germany November 15th to the Palladium Theater in Stuttgart. there is also one caming June 17th to Japan at the Shiki Theatre "Umi". and next year Austrailia is getting Wickeder than ever. there have been rumors for a Dutch, Canadian, and French version.

The only other one I can remember is seeing the travelling tour of Cats back in either 2002 or 2003.

Wicked has already come to Canada (Toronto at least). First in the spring of 2005 and then again in the fall of 2006.

And tomorrow I'm going to see Tarzan in the Circustheater in Scheveningen. They say this Dutch production is better than the Broadway version. Can't wait!

Well, I saw it yesterday. What a great show! The Dutch cast is wonderful. I can't wait to see it again!

I went to see "Sweeney" yesterday and I have to say it was...... interesting. I mean, it wasn't bad but I didn't think it was too great either. There were some great moments but I think that most people didn't understand it (some people left during intermission). My mother didn't like it at all and she only stayed because I wanted to finish seeing it. I would give it a 2 out of 5 stars just because it was a bit hard to follow, even though I knew the plot. I don't think I'll ever see it again.

This could have been due to the production. Were the actors playing intsruments? I read someone who hated the instrument production but completely loved another version (possibly the movie). Maybe you would like the movie better.

Oh, as for me I've seen these on Broadway:
Cats (didn't understand or like it at the time, I was young, love it now after seeing the DVD)
Wicked (loved and love it)
Phantom of the Opera (do like the musical, but the Broadway experience was not up to expectations, a little weak)

Yes it was the new John Doyle version where the actors play the instruments. I think it might have been the fact that it wasn't staged as a normal production and that the people seeing it didn't like it because of that. They could have also not liked it because it was mostly singing with only a few dialogue words sprinkled in here and there. And, yes I have another, it could have also been that it was quite fast paced. I mean, from the end of "No Place Like London," Sweeney walks over two feet, Lovett comes in and starts singing "Worse Pies in London" and maybe people didn't like that. I'm not sure myself if it is any of these but it could have also been that they just didn't like the subject material (probably because they didn't know what it was about, like, at all). I would probably like the film version better because there are so many more things that you can do with film that isn't imaginable for theatre. I'll have to wait and see what I think about the film version once it comes out on Blu-ray (I have this really strong desire to see it and I think I'll like it just because I can).

Professionally, I saw theater production of Mermaids (based on the Movie starring Cher) at the California Theater.

Well, my mother surprised us (my sister and I) and took us to see Jersey Boys. It was really great (even though I have only heard of about half of the songs). By the end, everyone was standing like they were at a concert. And since I'm only sixteen, I felt kind of weird in the mass of grey and white hair. I even had one gentleman talk to me syaing something like, "I'm sure you remember all of this stuff!" Of course my mom responds by saying, "He (me) wasn't even thought of yet." Anyway, I had a really good time and even got a poster.

I just saw Urinetown... omg, I LOVED it!!!

It was my first ever show and I'm beyond words excited about it. The show itself was hilarious (plus, the lead was a total hottie!!) But just the experience itself was just amazing, I'm totally hooked, I can't wait to see more shows.

Makes me wish even more that I lived in NY.

Well, I haven't seen any lately, but I'm just going to post which ones I would like to see:

Spring Awakening - I got a copy of the CD from the library and immediately fell in love with it. It's going to be on tour in August, but it won't be coming to Cincy . I would really love to see this and was planning on showing my mother the website with all of the parent letters and how it's good because it can create discussion about the different subjects presented. Oh well, it probably won't ever happen....

Hairspray - I've seen the movie, now I would really like to see the play. I was already eating up the OBC before the film version and now I really want to see it, but I don't think it has ever even been on tour . Oh well, might not see that one either.

The Phantom of the Opera - This is a no-brainer. I have to see this. If I loved the film, I don't know how I will feel about the play. I don't think its been touring for a few years, so who knows when I will see it, but I definitely will!

Mamma Mia! - I love ABBA so if this comes back to Cincy I will probably go and see it. One of the most upbeat musicals definitely deserves a viewing.

It has been on tour. I saw it, and it was...<i>interesting</i>, to say the least.

I was also involved in my school's production of Thoroughly Modern Millie (I was in tech crew)... that even made Broadway.com! Click here to see what I'm talking about.

I also saw an off-Broadway version of Beauty and the Beast (Yes, the Disney one), because my high school thought about doing that as the spring musical next year. Unfortunately they changed it to something else... but I saw that production (to see what the play version looked like) before it was announced.
