UncleEd wrote:Wasn't Snow White confirmed as a 2009 release by an internal retailer memo?
Not really. There's that fake looking schedule thing going around that "confirms it", but we had another one of them in 2006 "confirming" Pinocchio and Snow White for 2008 and, well, we know how that turned out.

Snow White's 2009 release date seems to be more speculation based on the "7 year rotation cycle" which is hardly stuck to at all anymore (It took 9 years for 101 Dalmatians to be re-released, why not 9 years for Snow White?) and that possible schedule. Personally, I doubt in will be released until 2010, or if it is released in 2009, it wont take a Platinum edition spot.

2009 already has a big Princess movie to promote in the fall (The Princess and the Frog) and it would make more sense to focus on it and release non princess title in October. Kinda like how The Jungle Book got an October release this year while Disney was promoting the Princess movie Enchanted. Of course with Rapunzel coming in fall of 2010, this point could be negated (unless of course Snow White comes out in the Spring).

I just don't see Disney re-releasing a PE title while the collection is still ongoing. Especially if it carries a PE banner. That just doesn't make sense in my head.

Exactly,so each year has a different princess:
2005-Cinderella.
2006-Ariel.
2007-Giselle.
2008-Aurora.
2009-Tiana.
2010-Rapunzel.
2011-Snow White.

As much as I'd like to see Snow White released soon, I have a feeling that they'll push its re-release closer to its 75th Anniversary date. Not necessarily waiting to release it in Dec 2012, but releasing it in that year/prior year or at least still available (not yet placed back in the vault) for the big 75th Anniversary date. Just a hunch.

As for the main topic of this thread, I think it's a good year. Although I of course would like to see the quality of the DVDs get better, I'm still happy that Disney continues to introduce its films to new generations. I've never seen Aristocats nor Saludos Amigos/Three Caballeros and am looking forward to getting those. I'm also looking forward to 101 Dalmatians, Enchanted, Wall-e, TinkerBell, and National Treasure: Book of Secrets. As I already have Sleeping Beauty and don't plan to get a Blu Ray player anytime soon, I don't plan to double dip on that one.

I agree that the quality of the DVDs should get better again and the studios should stop making us double-triple-or more dip with super-special-extended-gold-diamond editions like only half a year after the first DVD. Why not release it right away. I know the want to make money but this has gotten our of hand.
And is it too much to ask for 2-Disc editions of movies that did well in theaters like Ratatouille and Enchanted?!

But considering what movies are gonna be released this year, it should be a great year. Finally 101 Dalmatians gets the treatment it deserves, then we have Enchanted, National Treasure 2, The Muppet Show, of course, Sleeping Beauty PE... Loads of good stuff to make everyone happy.

Oh, yeah!
101 Dalmatians is a must that I would've liked to have earlier and before, say, The Jungle Book.
Enchanted is coming out soon, too.
The Little Mermaid 3 is finally coming out...
and Sleeping Beauty PE is like a bonus among all these! It even feels like the cherry on top of a good year, lol, especially because the Blu-Ray experience could be mind-blowing!
I can't ask for more!

You could say that Giselle and Aurora share 2008, especially concerning DVD releases. Although as to merchandise, I guess Giselle is more 2007 because all the toys and stuff came out before the movie back in November.
Man, I hope Aurora gets lots of "Platinum Edition" merchandise like Cinderella and Ariel did when their movies came out on DVD! I thought it sucked that she didn't get anything with the SE release, but in this case with the PE it could be much better than what could've been before!

The only thing more that I would want is that they release the Sleeping Beauty DVD with a Collectors Gift set similar to The Lion King, Aladdin and Cinderella... Anyone else agree ?

I think Fantasia PE (when it comes out) will have an excellent Blu-Ray experience. Hopefully they can do a great job of cleaning-up the sound for it.

I was talking about the film in theather, not the DVD,so Giselle is 2007 and not 2008.
She will, this mounth there's a toy fair that will show the new Sleeping Beauty PE marchandise.

Why not? Because these days Disney treat the DVD buying public with contempt. That's why not.
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database

I'm only gonna be happy if they release the third (and final) set of Rescue Ranger DVDs... oh and more Treasures of course.

I'm not looking forward to any DTV-sequel. They're always done cheap! I don't see why people want to buy a lame DTV-sequel of any of the real "theatre worthy" classics, with mostly poorer stories and poorer animation quality. I hope we are spared such titles as "Pinocchio 2" or "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the return". So you bet I'm not going to buy Little Mermaid III and suchlike.

I might pick up the PE of 101 Dalmations that was a fun film; also Sleeping Beauty, although storywise a bit lame, the animation is worth it.

I'm still eagerly awaiting the PE of Pinocchio, and when oh when will a SE of Hunchback be released?

I hope the 'common' DVD-editions won't differ in content from the Blue-ray ones?

I'm pretty sure that the Blu-Ray discs will have different content. They can hold more data/memory then a standard DVD.

You know, has Disney ever OFFICIALLY said that the Princess line dictates DVD releases? They consider Mulan a Princess and that DVD came out 2 weeks after Aladdin. Pocahontas is on the roster too and that film came out the same year as Cinderella. I find it hard to believe that just because they have a new Princess film coming out on DVD that an old one won't be released on DVD. And if you're going to insist this is true then you MUST count the cheapquels as well since these are part of the Princess line. We had 2 Cinderella ones, a Sleeping Beauty/Aladdin one, and what else last year. I think this is just fandom over thinking.

Furthermore, Sleeping Beauty was already released on DVD once before in a 2 disc edition. At the time it was considered the platinum version since it was added to the list shortly before. I forget what other platinum title came out that year, it was either Lion King or Beauty and the Beast. Anyway, Sleeping Beauty is being reissued shortly after it's first DVD release, as was Peter Pan. What makes you think Snow White wouldn't come out "so soon"? Given how long it's been out of print and how fast their turn around has become (more like 5 years than 7, 7 was Walt's day) it's almost over due for a reissue.

I'm not sure if they'll make it a 75th anniversary edition though because the 60th went by with nary a peep as did the 70th. Besides, as has been discussed here before, the public is numb to the anniversary editions because EVERYTHING was released as an anniversary edition for so long that it's lost it's impact.

I don't think it matters that blu ray can hold a lot of information. DVD can hold a fair amount and look at how little is offered on the more recent releases. And I HATE that the Pixar ones have their content spread to different store editions. Just put it all on 1 universal set and stop playing games trying to get us to buy the same movie 6 times in a week to falsly inflate the sales. We don't fall for it.

I liked the idea of the gift sets but it didn't offer much. We got a book that rehashed what was on the DVD and the lithrograph sets. I think the LD and VHS collector sets were much better.

I doubt it, it's mostly just fan speculation.

It was The Lion King.

Sleeping Beauty was already announced as an SE when it appeared as a sneak peek in Beauty and the Beast's Platinum Edition. By the time the May 2003 Nu-Platinum announcement came, Sleeping Beauty had already been promoted on other DVDs and in television and print as coming to DVD in September. Of course, many of us already considered it the Platinum Edition in content, if not in name, and expected a March 2004 slot (with speculation it'd be Bambi), but the March slot was delayed to 2005.

With Ariel and Tink both getting new releases this year, I'm pretty psyched (they're my two favorite girls, after all). I also am really psyched to get Enchanted, and I never miss the Treasures collections (though I am a little behind since I still need Oswald and the 4th Legacy Collection volume). Plus, I assume there will be some new releases this year from the Disney Afternoon? I haven't checked the release schedule, but it seems very likely. If there IS a new Princess Enchanted Tales, I'll be wanting that too, and I'm sure I'm forgetting some good stuff. Also will be getting Aristocats, Sleeping Beauty, and 101 Dalmatians, though not sure if I'll be able to get any of this stuff right when it is released, especially stuff that is also getting a Blu Ray release. I may want to wait till I get a Blu Ray player, which I hope is soon but I don't know how I'm going to raise the money yet, ha. It'll be hard to have to wait on getting Enchanted though, and Tink and Ariel too, if they get Blu Ray releases. If they don't though, I am sure I'll be getting those the day they come out.

First of all,Disney Consumer Products SAID OFFICALLY that the Princess line dictates the DVDs,Snow White WILL COME IN 2011.
And about Aladdin, this whole thing with the Princess line started with the Cinderella PE,not Aladdin (and if you didn't noticed-Jasmine,and neither Snow White and Belle, didn't got any marchandise when her film came on a PE) so that's why Mulan and Pocahontas were released in 2004.

It looks as if we will also be getting a new release for Sword in the Stone and 101 Dalamatians 2: Patch's London Adventure. I'm still wondering about The Little Mermaid 2: Return to the Sea though.

The Aristocats, 101 Dalmatians, Saludos Amigos/The Three Amigos, The Sword in the Stone, and Sleeping Beauty! Looks like it will be a pretty good year for Disney animated classics.
