Flubber UK DVD, Anamorphic?

Post by Shauniew »

I'm on a mad crusade to replace as many of my non-anamorphic DVDs as possible. I own the region 1 non-anamorphic widescreen DVD of Flubber because at the time, the UK release was 4:3 only. I went to HMV today and noticed that the release they now have is widescreen, 1.85:1. Due to the wisdom of Buena Vista here in the UK, they never state if a title is anamorphic or not. I've spent an evening searching on the internet and found nothing concrete. Does anyone have this DVD and can confirm if it's anamorphic or not? Any help would be appreciated.

To answer your question, I'll tell ye a tale of epic greatness.
Me, a year ago wrote:The original DVD release of Flubber was pan and scan, hence the reason I never bought it, but today in ASDA I saw Flubber for sale and noticed its cover had been given a slight rejig. So I check the back and lo and behold it says 1.85:1 widescreen, so I bought and Yes it is anamorphic widescreen. However the tricky part is the new widescreen version has the same UPC (bar code) as the old pan and scan version, which explains why unlike the recent rerelease of Greyfriars the new Flubber didn't have a newer release date. So if you're a fan of the film but didn't pick it up because it was pan and scan, get down to your local ASDA where it's part of the 2 for £10 sale.

Thank you so much. That's me off to HMV tomorrow with £7. I did a search of the website/forum but got so many hits for "Son of Flubber" I didn't have the energy to trawl through them for your nugget of info. Thanks again.
