Well, my feelings are mixed. As much as I like the DVD I have...and "Sleeping Beauty" in general...I was really hoping this would come out later, both because it might be too soon for me to double-dip and not feel bad about it, and because I was really hoping for something I didn't already have, like "Pinocchio".

Expect me to make this DVD my only (if the features are the same) un-needed double dip. Plain and simply because its Sleeping Beauty, my favorite Disney film!

I absolutely love Sleeping Beauty, but I'll be disappointed as well if this is confirmed. I'm one of the lucky people who has the previous DVD, and I don't see how they'll improve much on it.

For those of us wanting a 2-disc Pinocchio, maybe there's a bright spot in this. Perhaps Disney will take the time to have a new restoration done. I've seen screencaps of the one available in Europe, and some of them are awful. The candle scene in particular, is absolutely ruined.

I am fine with news. I never got a chance to buy the SE, so I need to get this title. To be truthful, I am more interested in the behind-the-scenes features that this title could offer rather than Pinocchio...

It would makes sense for Disney to do this, too. Over the years, they've released all their princess films in October (Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs, Beauty and The Beast, Aladdin, Cinderella, Little Mermaid).
:pan: Love It.

I actually do not care if and when they are released, as long as I don't die before they are, haha!

I have neither Pinocchio or Sleeping Beauty, so I am looking forward to both.

And I am also looking forward to 101 Dalmatians. :D

And the year of 2007 they ruin it... Either that or does King Louie count? :P

I think its wonderful that Sleeping Beauty is going to be made into a Platinum Edition ! Do you think this descision has anything to do with the fact that Enchanted Tales is coming out, and Aurora will feature in at least two volumes? I would not be suprised if that was the case. And on the DVD, I'll bet there will be something to do with 'Enchanted Tales' as well.

I wonder how they can improve on the 2 Disc Collectors Edition though? That was an amazing DVD in Region 2 (the one I have), but I don't know how the features compared to Region 1.

Still, I'm happy this is going Platinum !

Sleeping Beauty Platinum Efition before Pinocchio's?

Oh, I forgot about that! That makes LOADS of sense since Peter Pan was only released for the Pirates craze and the Fairies line. There's nothing new for Pinocchio coming up, but there is something new for Aurora!

However, consider this: Sleeping Beauty already had a Special Edition. Only Snow White and Peter Pan were called Platinum Editions under the titles on the cover and the spine. A lot of films, if they have been released to DVD before, recieve an Anniversary Edition title, like Lady and the Tramp 50th Anniversary Edition. So I would think they would do the same for Sleeping Beauty's re-release, don't you?

But Disney has changed things to cross-promote before, so I actually think atlanticaunderthesea's Enchanted Tales idea would be Disney's priority over an anniversary. You know, to make as much money as they can while Aurora's popularity peaks.

Well, they released Lady and the Tramp on its 51th anniversary and claimed it was the 50th, didn't they? (Unless there's something I didn't understand!) They could still pull that for Sleeping Beauty, especially since October is near the end of the year. So it would serve both purposes: promoting Enchanted Tales and rejoicing (sp?) over the 50th!

This is very true. I guess it just surprises me that they wouldn't wait until 2009 to release Sleeping Beauty, especially since it has already recieved a great two-disc release and Pinocchio has not recieved two-disc treatment at all.

This release schedule probably does have a lot to do with enchanted tales and the anniversary, but I betting they are also wanting to profit from the marketing of a Disney Princess before Christmas. All of the Princess films have been released in October and have recieved the best publicity out of all the films.

I think Disney has a bigger budget for the October releases, has anyone else noticed that?

I hope this isn't true. I was looking forward to getting Pinocchio since I didn't bother picking up the gold edition. I guess I feel the same as alot of other people. Sleeping Beauty just had a great 2-disc edition come out. They probably won't end up changing alot for the platinum. It's possible that they're doing this because of all the complaints about Peter Pan being a sub-par release.

Maybe they're releasing a movie they don't have to work on much in October so that they can make the February release better?

Ok, I couldn't get a scan of the flyer, but Disney.de has launched a special PE website for the German market and SB is listed there as the second PE after 101 Dalmatians in 2008.
Take a look:

Next Platinums

Post by Mason_Ireton »

Sorry if that already been announced on the fourm/front page...But trust moi, it's worth the read.

On Monday May 14th 2007, I went to the Disney Store and asked 'em bout pre ordering Jungle Book (start the pre-order in Mid-Auguest) then I asked them bout the next 2 Platinums....SLEEPING BEAUTY (Fall 2008) and SNOW WHITE (Spring 2009) + as a bonus, PINOCCHIO will come after Snow White in Fall 2009.

The reasons for SNOW WHITE being released is due to possible miss outs on the first sales, so Disney trying give the generations that missed SNOW WHITE will have another chance of purchasing it.

Again this info came from the horse's mouth people and sorry if this info has been already posted.

I think you meant Pinocchio's coming Fall 2009, not 2010 right? Right...? If so, that means the schedule's like this:

Spring 2008: One Hundred and One Dalmatians
Fall 2008: Sleeping Beauty
Spring 2009: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
Fall 2009: Pinocchio

I'm willing to bet either Sleeping Beauty or Snow White will be the first Blu-Ray Platinum. Looking at the schedule, the only Platinum left would be Fantasia which I assume would be Spring 2010. While I personally would swap Pinocchio and Sleeping Beauty, it's good to hear Pinocchio's coming in two and a half years (assuming your 2010 thing was a typo; please say it is).
